Is it normal to smell gas near the B26 50 appliance?
1 answer
Rinnai A.Rinnai
Hi Gary,
Thanks for the question, the unit can give off a smell of gas while being used, but if it is extreme during use it could be incomplete combustion caused by low gas pressure.
If however the smell is there permanently a service call will be recommended to find root cause.
Please contact 1st care service on 1300 555 545 for further assistance if required.
Thanks,
Rinnai Australia

Brand new B26 installed yesterday. Already has a fault. Will not make hot water at low flow rates. Initial start up takes too long and wastes too much water and time.
I'm telling my plumber to pull it out and return it to Tradelink in the morning

Designers and purveyors of Junk HW Systems. Plumber/Gas fitter has already done that. Gas pressure is perfect. Why do so many customers complain of similar problems?

I had rinnai B26 installed one month age. Takes so very long to warm up in the mornings, like half a bath tub, then it runs cold for a bit then hot. I have the installers come several times to adjust fittings etc. and all fine. I am a pensioner, paid over $4,000 to get installed. I called rinnai and they said I would have to pay, why should I pay, it is one month old I have a warranty and pretty sure over $4,000 it should be no problem. This has been such a nightmare, it is a faulty system and rinnai should come and fix without charge. You should have a technician to help me solve this problem without costing me anything. Very stressful, and certainly not fair.

We have just built a house and were advised that the continuous hot water unit was the way to go, sadly disappointing. We are using a large bottle of Lpg per month, at around $150 per bottle.

Hi Colin, I was also advised that a continuous hot water unit was the way to go. I was also advised that I would save on gas bills as I would only be paying to heat what I use. I am on natural gas but as yet my gas bills have not altered significantly.
Bottled gas is quite costly so bare that in mind.
My major issue is the time it takes for the water to get hot, it is an absolute pain.
Maybe shop around your bottled gas retailers?
See if you can get a good deal somewhere.
Good luck

Hi Colin Mc,
Thank you for the question.
I have spoken with out technical help team and they have informed me that on average you would use 8.5 (45kg) LPG bottles or approximately 380 kg of gas per year.
Some parts of the year you may use more eg winter etc.
Thanks

G'day It's SADDLES again, we still have our whistling problem , we received an email today 24/09/2019 talking about our problem we had looked at about 3 months with no result. Maybe they have developed a quite FAN for the unit now , if so put our name on the list.
The other thing I wince about is all the water being wasted waiting for the hot, I've been reading a bit about continuous flow , would that help ? can it be fitted to mine? how much would it cost?
Thanks for your time

I have a Rinnai B26 installed in our new Villa. Our issue is it takes so long for the water to become warm/hot. The water wasted is incredible. We now have two 10 litre buckets in each bathroom to catch the water until it be comes warm/hot. This is currently used to water the garden. Is there a solution to this issue. Our previous house had a Rinnai Infinity 26 and circulated the water prior to turning on the shower/bath/sink. Virtually no water loss.

After experiencing multiple issues - no hot water, slow hot water, on and off hot water etc. We finally had our gas meter regulator upgraded to 2.75kpa. This has greatly improved the performance of the B26 - although the hot water will never be instantaneous it is certainly better. I would suggest that you ring Rinnai customer service - they do try really hard to help.

With thousands of units out there and presumably happy customers, is there any chance that there's been a faulty production batch in the last 12 months? It is no co-incidence here that we have quite a few people complaining about the same problems.

Rinnai said there was no such problem, but I suppose that’s an easier solution rather to honour and replace. Just do your due diligence and steer clear to safe guard unnecessary future outlay.
In hindsight, there is little to no regard for manufacturing faults or flaws unless the manufacturer is willing to admit liability or fault. Very likely other customers are out there unhappy but the stock standard rehearsed answers from the call centre leaves you helpless.

Hi John,

Our Rinnai B26 was installed about 3 years ago.
The system regularly fails to fire up. This happens abour 5 to 8 times a day. If we turn the power off and leave off for around 30 seconds the system will then fire up. This is not satisfactory of course.
This seems to be more prevalent in the winter months.
Cheers
Sam

To Sam S.......SORRY Sam we have not got that problem as yet, thank heavens, ours is more a whistling noise EVERY TIME we switch off the hot water, it drives us nuts. This is probably a silly question from what iv'e read about the Rinnai service centre, have you tried their service, maybe that part is still under warranty. We have had a service email about our problem from Rinnai ,that was a week ago nothing else..... Good Luck

is it ok in frost areas
2 answers
Quite possibly not. We aren’t even in a frost or snow region.
Rinnai A.Rinnai
Thanks for the question Ken G,
All Rinnai Infinity external units (this does not include internal units) come standard with frost protection, provided the electricity is switched on, this unit would be suitable in a frost area.

Why does the water go cold many times before it stays hot. All taps in house . Built in 2015 and only now have the problem
2 answers
Rinnai A.Rinnai
Thanks for the question Brian W, there can be a number of things that can cause the issue you have described. The most common of which is to do with water flow through the unit. We recommend cleaning the filters in the unit and ensuring all tapware has no blockages or build up.
Thank You

I have got a quote of $2125 for aRinnai B26 with installation and disposal. I think it is overpriced. Any suggestion.

Go for it. I am totally impressed with my new water heater. Hotter water than I had. Price around the same as I paid. My Gas bill came down by so much that I thought they had made a mistake. I could not be happier. It is the best investment I have made for a long time. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you Antoinette.

We have a Rinnai B26 that I purchased 1 march 2017. It has had intermittent problems numerous times . I called the Rinnai 1st Car team who did not care at all. I talked to a guy called John who insisted I had to call an independent gas plumber to verify the pressure before they would send out their plumbers. I contacted the installer who thankfully came out, checked the pressure and it was fine. He contacted Rinnai and explained the situation. Rinnai listened to him and arranged Precise Plumbing to inspect the unit which they found faulty. They replaced the piezo starting unit and has been working until now.
I am back to the intermittent problem that I had back in December last year.
My understanding is that this model has a 3 years warranty on both parts and labour.
I am loathe to contact the 1st Care team at Rinnai after the last experience.
Does anybody know if this is a common problem with this model? If so how do I fix it?
2 answers
Sorry - I cannot help with this query - my only problem thus far is the amount of water that is wasted (if it is not collected for the garden) before any warm water comes through the tap outlet and the temperature of the water is not as hot as I thought it would/should be.

Thanks for the question John T, without inspecting the unit it is difficult to investigate the issue with the unit. We would like to look into this further, can you please contact the team, mentioning this review at enquiry@rinnai.com.au with the address details and if possible, the job number
Rayasked
Why does my B26 run out of water through the day only?
3 answers
My suggestion is that, if it is a Rinnai problem, it can be intermittent and that you need to be patient but persistent with their service arrangements. Escalate the problem, as soon as possible to Rinnai management, as opposed to the local service contractor. Be prepared to waste a lot of time waiting for a satisfactory fix.
Sorry can't help Ray. Mine has never run out of water. Only gone cold when I adjust to a lesser volume which I am told, cuts out the heating if water flow is inadequate .mtt
Rinnai A.Rinnai
Thanks for the question Ray, the unit is a continuous flow so if it is running out of water then something is wrong. If it's a new installation it's a good idea to get the installing plumber check the installation, otherwise book a service call on 1300 555 545.

I have just had a B26 installed at my house but there were no instructions on its use.

Thanks for the question Big Al, we would be happy to provide you with the instruction manual for the hot water unit. As your email address has been removed by Product Review can you please email through to our enquiry@rinnai.com.au address with the model number of the unit. (this can be found on the date plate on the left hand side of the unit starting with REU). We can then either email or mail out a copy of the manual. Alternatively you can call our Sales team on 1300 555 545 and they can arrange to send it to you.
