I just bought a Rinnai B26 but have not installed it yet. After speaking to a plumber, he says the unit needs a certain gas pressure but am not sure if my previous existing gas storage heater unit has this. What is the pressure requirements for both the gas and water and electric power for this unit to work?

We installed a B26 model recently and have been going through a 45kg bottle every 3 weeks!! This is so disappointing as we changed from electric to save money but it’s considerably more expensive. Is something wrong with the unit? Why is it using so much?

I have a Chromagen Hot water system which has 20mm gas and 15mm cold water connection. This for a double storey 5 bedroom 2 shower home. Can I replace this with Rinnai B26 - will this function well given the 15mm water connection

A plumber said I should go with B26. However based on info online and specs for B26, would need 20mm water pipes otherwise B26 may not be effective. Not 100% sure which is correct

Hi Kirstie A,

Thanks for your question. The B26 is a on Demand system when a hot tap is turned the unit is burning Gas and expelling products of combustion out of the flue slot this operation is normal.

Hi Rinnai How long does it take for the hot water to come of out of the tap? I understand the distance may effect it, so let's say a bathroom, upstairs, in a 20m long building from the gas heater? TIA.

Peter W.
Peter W.

It would roughly take 2-3 minutes as distance and pipe size adds extra time this just a standard length of time

I (the builder) have by accident installed 10 of the B26N60 about 2 months ago and when the plumber went to get the sign of by fair trading the inspector has said that the hot water systems don't meet code. I have since then changed the settings so its now set too 50 degrees and reads 49.3 on average at the taps, this was still not accepted by the inspector. Can you please tell me what the differences are between the B26N60 and the B26N50 other then the temperate being set in factory. As both models seem to be exactly the same other then the settings.

Hi, our brand new Rinnai B26 is giving us Lukewarm water, which is unbearable in cold weather. We were told by the company that we can use 3 showers at a time but we are not even satisfied by 1 shower at a time, the water gets cool from Lukewarm very quickly, please help what to do? Our plumber says that temperatures are always preset, so he can’t do anything.

Rinnai
Rinnai   DM

Hi Abu H, this is not normal operation of the unit and even if preset to 50 degrees, this is not lukewarm water. Has the installer returned to check on the installation and the measured the temperature at the outlets? There are limitations on temperatures to the nearest bathroom but you should be getting at least 50 degrees here.

Our technical help desk is available to both the public and plumbers and can be reached on 1300 555 545 option 3.

Thanks Rinnai Australia

I have a B26 unit that was installed 3 months ago, unit does not start at all when hot water tap is opened. Power and LPG is connected and working, I checked water flow and is 3.5L a minute from the tap. Is this enough to start the unit

Rinnai
Rinnai   DM

jason F. thanks for the question. The unit should automatically start as soon as the tap is opened and 3.5litres pm should be enough water flow through the unit. We would recommend speaking to our Technical Help Desk who can troubleshoot with you. they can be reached on 1300 555 545 option 3.

Is it normal to smell gas near the B26 50 appliance?

Rinnai
Rinnai   DM

Hi Gary, Thanks for the question, the unit can give off a smell of gas while being used, but if it is extreme during use it could be incomplete combustion caused by low gas pressure. If however the smell is there permanently a service call will be recommended to find root cause.

Please contact 1st care service on 1300 555 545 for further assistance if required.

Thanks, Rinnai Australia

Brand new B26 installed yesterday. Already has a fault. Will not make hot water at low flow rates. Initial start up takes too long and wastes too much water and time. I'm telling my plumber to pull it out and return it to Tradelink in the morning

It's Australia, Product Support is useless or even non-existent. Nobody has bothered to contact me. It seems to me that the first unit had a DOA fault. It was built in early 2019. So I insisted that the plumber return it to Tradelink for a replacement. He installed the new B26 this morning. The new unit was made in middle of this year. The plumber spent 2 hours on Friday night troubleshooting and trying to fix the original unit, only a few days after installing it as new. I had to explain to him that every brand of every product suffer DOAs from time to time. The plumbing supply industry in Australia has to do better in handling DOAs. They should not have expected my plumber to do any troubleshooting beyond checking gas pressure. They should be prepared to do a rapid exchange of DOA items
