A few problems i found with this unit – Be careful the sticker they place inside dry out and full off which can catch fire, best is to remove it by taken out the screws and slide off the side cover. Ticking noise you will find that the heater core element bar fins are cracked because of expansion while heating and cooling all the time, remove side cover ( easy to remove a few screws… Read more
then slides off ) snip off any loose fins or just wiggle a bit they will fall off, you can tell by moving them a little, mine were the top ones on both ends about quarter way along, the outer flat stable bar is the main problem it will be detached from the fins just bend it till it joins to the fins again but be gentle its only thin then just snip it off out of the way, no more ticking. Poor quality parts, the good is the digital temperature control but is a tad loud when turns on and off. Wont buy again from Rinnai.
Extremely loud ticking noise – Heater works fine to heat up the room but continually makes a loud ticking noise. It's so loud and constant that we have to turn the heater off, we can't sleep with it on. Very disappointing I wish I read the reviews before purchasing as this seems to be a common problem. Caught Fire!! – Worked fine for 1 full winter to keep my young kids room warm. It failed spectacularly this weekend, sparks bright white white light followed by fire!! Thankfully I was in the room when it happened and was able to remove the smoking heater from my kids room before it burnt the house down!!
Great for the bedroom – Design - being wall mountable and slimline it saves on floor space. Looks ok and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb on the wall. Function - operates really well. We use it to heat up our bedroom using the timer and auto temp setting. The heat is great. As most have stated, it does click on and off creating noise when maintaining room temp. … Read more
Cost - Running cost hasn't been an issue as its not running 24/7. I don't notice it on the bill.
Overall - it does what it should and heats a room up well. I would buy another unit if the issue with the clicking noise was solved.

Starting being noisy again – We bought this heater one and a half months ago. The first one was getting terribly rattling more and more so we took it back to Good guys one month after we purchsed. They swiped to new one but this is getting noisy again from 2 weeks after we got. We love this idea that turing on and off automatically to keep the temperature we put. It… Read more
actually works very well as a heater.
However, this heater is keeping to wake my baby up while keeping our bedroom warm at the same time. We might go back to Good guys again soon as we are on 7 years warranty.
No body can sleep with this sound. So if you reckon to buy a heater for night, in a bedroom, keep away, this is not yours. But for daytime, or may not in a silent place, this will be a great spending.
Rinnai 1500w panel heater – I bought this heater today for our sons room, and have already put it to the test. At first I was concerned about the clicking sound that people on here have mentioned, but I've had no issues at all. The heater is completely silent, looks good and warms up the room beautifully. We also have a Rinnai gas heater and never had any issues with it,… Read more
so I am pleased at the moment that we bought this one. Quiet operation, child lock, thermostat controlled, timer function and good value None found as yet
Great Heater – I bought one of these heaters for my baby's room several weeks ago (1500W for 9m2 room). It works by convection and doesn't use a fan. It has a digital display for time and temperature/thermostat and is programmable. In regards to safety, it turns off if it overheats or tips over. It can be set up on castors or wall mounted. Also features a… Read more · 1
seven year replacement warranty!
When I purchased it the salesman discussed with me the top brand heaters of the same type and they were $100 more expensive. I chose the Rinnai because the only real differences were that the more expensive heater had a dial (instead of digital display) for the temperature setting and it had a lifetime replacement warranty.
I was also told it costs approximately 10 cents per hour to run.
The first time you use it, you do have to run it for about 30 minutes outside or in the garage to burn off the anti-rust coating on the element.
UPDATE: 2016 - I have two of these heaters now in my kids rooms on castors and they work really well. They have started to make more noise when they heat up after kicking in. Clicking and creaking types noises. Technically I could take them back because they advertise silent operation and they have such a long warranty, but it doesn't bother my kids. Silent, efficient, digital display, good safety features, 7 year replacement warranty.
