On\ off switch has failed and clips holding feet have broken off – These panel heaters look great, and appeared to be well made, but..........the unit worked fine for a while, until the on\off switch failed, making it impossible to switch the unit on. Additionally, I moved interstate and the retaining clips on the feet were brittle and broke off. Junk!!! Show details

Easy fix if power turns off – Inherited this rinnai 2200w non working from a neighbour. Pictured is an over heating safety device installed next to control panel cct board. This one went open circuit after 10 seconds due to current draw. No soldering to replace. Replace part found from Aliexpress for $2.00. Good bedroom heater, place at 14C at night and comes on once or twice for 15min. Just enough for a comfy sleep. Show details

This heater has issues – Bought one from Good guys about a month ago. It was an ex display model and the last one left. At home I discovered the casters were the wrong ones as they didn't fit. The Good Guys found the right ones so I went back home and installed them. The heater worked for 1 night then it popped and stopped working. Took it back to The Good Guys a week… Read more

later( first available time for me) and after testing it, agreed it didn't work so replaced it with a new one as they had got new stock in. Have had this one for 2 weeks and was working fine until all of a sudden it has started cutting out after 1-2 minutes of operation. The whole family has studied the operating manual, and nothing seems to work. The troubleshooting on the Rinnai website is useless and only gives 2 options. 1. make sure it is plugged in properly and 2.Is the thermostat turned up or the heater timer not set? This was checked over and over again, but still nothing. I'm returning this rubbish and hopefully get a heater that works.

Great heater for a medium space – So you have an idea of the room this is heating, I'll let you know that I live in Queensland in a house with wooden floorboards, 8ft ceilings and insulation, but as we're on the second floor the house is usually colder inside than outside in winter. The room is roughly 6m x 4m with large windows and a glass sliding door. We do have a split system… Read more ·  1

in the room and while it'd great in summer, it's too small to handle the heating in winter.

I purchased this heater yesterday and it's made my house so cosy. The instructions were easy to understand and in no time I had it set to heat the living room at 24 degrees between 4am and 10pm (I work from home so the house needs to be heated all day). My husband gets up at 5am for work and although he wasn't happy that I went about $100 over budget yesterday, he said today that he was glad I had because not just the living room, but the whole house was nice when he got up for work this morning. He said the lounge room was very comfortable after the heater just being on for an hour and while it was still cold in the opposite end of the house, but it wasn't that horrible bitter, biting cold that he's been dealing with most mornings. When I got up a few hours later, my lounge room was warm and I didn't need to bring our bedroom space heater out like I've had to every day since the weather turned cold.

As it is a unit that can be wall mounted, I've found it can also be put well out of the way which is very handy. I have it with the back about 10cm away from a bookshelf and the books, storage boxes, and shelving are all cold to the touch. Appearance wise, ours is a floor model so it has a small dent in the front, but it otherwise looks very nice. While looking for a heater, I noticed a lot of the portable ones had cheap looking castors but nothing about this unit looks cheap or ugly to me. My only problem with this heater is my dog and cat also love it so I've also inadventantly acquired a large border collie and ragdoll cat shaped obstacle in front of it in the middle of our lounge room floor. At least the unit is white so it matches their colours!

I noticed someone mentioned noise being an issue, however I can only imagine they got a faulty unit. Apart from beeping when using the buttons and a small, barely noticable click when the heating elements turn on or off, the unit is totally silent.

Great Heater – I bought one of these heaters for my baby's room several weeks ago (1500W for 9m2 room). It works by convection and doesn't use a fan. It has a digital display for time and temperature/thermostat and is programmable. In regards to safety, it turns off if it overheats or tips over. It can be set up on castors or wall mounted. Also features a… Read more ·  1

seven year replacement warranty!

When I purchased it the salesman discussed with me the top brand heaters of the same type and they were $100 more expensive. I chose the Rinnai because the only real differences were that the more expensive heater had a dial (instead of digital display) for the temperature setting and it had a lifetime replacement warranty.

I was also told it costs approximately 10 cents per hour to run.

The first time you use it, you do have to run it for about 30 minutes outside or in the garage to burn off the anti-rust coating on the element.

UPDATE: 2016 - I have two of these heaters now in my kids rooms on castors and they work really well. They have started to make more noise when they heat up after kicking in. Clicking and creaking types noises. Technically I could take them back because they advertise silent operation and they have such a long warranty, but it doesn't bother my kids. Silent, efficient, digital display, good safety features, 7 year replacement warranty.

OK until the fuse blows – My JEPH-22DTW was heating OK. But then stopped working. Cannot get it to work. Probably the fuse blown. Unable to repair it myself - no user-serviceable parts. Called Rinnai Help for a local repair shop. Sorry, couldn't help. Probably none. But $285 will get a repair man to my door, plus $30 per 15 minutes. Might as well go and buy a new one for $245. But definately not a Rinnai. Why can't I buy a replacement fuse for $10? Show details

A few problems i found with this unit – Be careful the sticker they place inside dry out and full off which can catch fire, best is to remove it by taken out the screws and slide off the side cover. Ticking noise you will find that the heater core element bar fins are cracked because of expansion while heating and cooling all the time, remove side cover ( easy to remove a few screws… Read more

then slides off ) snip off any loose fins or just wiggle a bit they will fall off, you can tell by moving them a little, mine were the top ones on both ends about quarter way along, the outer flat stable bar is the main problem it will be detached from the fins just bend it till it joins to the fins again but be gentle its only thin then just snip it off out of the way, no more ticking. Poor quality parts, the good is the digital temperature control but is a tad loud when turns on and off. Wont buy again from Rinnai.

Cost me a fortune – I found this heater took ages to heat my very small apartment and was not worth the $400/month electricity bill. Poor Quality – This heater (Rinnai - jeph22dtw) comes with a 7 Year warranty and it broke after 2 years. It was never abused as it is mounted directly to a wall. Not worth the $195 price tag – I bought this heater over a year ago to use in both the living room and the bedroom. Good Guys replaced it, no questions asked. The Good: Room temperature is maintained… Read more

to desired temperature very well.

The Bad:

It makes a lot of ticking and banging noises while operating, Its been getting worse over the last couple of months. I no longer use the heater in the bedroom as it wakes me up.

The timer is a pain because the clock and timer settings are lost when it is switched off or is unplugged so I have to reset them every time I move the heater from one room to another.

There is also no override for the timer so if you want the heater to come on outside of the hours you have set the heater to come on, you lose your timer settings.

If I knew what I know now I would have bought a cheaper heater and plugged it into a 24hr timer. I really cannot work out how Rinnai can justify the price of this heater.

Heats well, however not silent operation as box states – We were looking for a heater that was cost efficient as our gas ducted heating is really running up our gas bill during winter. comfortable to sleep set at 18 degrees. We haven't used the timer, we just set it to 18 and let it keep the room at a steady temperature.

The castors on the bottom make it very easy to move around which is handy.

Now for our issue with this heater. Looking at earlier reviews, there weren't any having the clicking/tapping issue, however more recent reviews do. A product with a 7 year warranty gives you that bit of confidence that this is a quality product, so we decided to buy it and see what happens.

We had a slight tapping sound which would happen while the heater is warming up. Not a problem to begin with, we could still sleep. 3 months on and it is the most annoying sound, it has gotten louder and is on constantly clicking away while the heater is on. My husband is a heavy sleeper and he even notices it now.

We have now the reached the point where we can't use it so we will return it. Should you buy it? Depends if you need it in a bedroom. Unless Rinnai can confirm that this issue has been fixed, I would not recommend it for use in a bedroom.
