Rinnai Energysaver 557FTR Questions & Answers
VerifiedMy Rinnai 557 FTR heater is now making a knocking noise, like a bearing in the fan is broken. Can this be fixed. The heater is 25 years old, but has been pretty well faultless. I would greatly appreciate your help. Regards, Aidan.

My 557 heater is locked by the Child Lock button which must been pressed . How can I unlock it?
Hi Adrienne, Thanks for your question. Please find below some tips from the owner's manual that may help. • Child Lock / Function Lock The lock function will help to prevent accidental operation as well as small children from altering the controls. To operate the lock simply press the LOCK button. The function is activated immediately and the LOCK indicator will glow. To Deactivate the LOCK simply press the LOCK button for 3 seconds and the LOCK indicator will go out. The LOCK can be deactivated at any time in this way.
During normal operation the LOCK may be activated and all controls, other than the OFF switch, will be locked. Deactivating the LOCK releases the controls. If the LOCK is activated whilst the heater is turned OFF, then all functions will be locked. If the heater is turned OFF while the LOCK is activated, it cannot be turned ON again until the LOCK is deactivated.
Thanks Rinnai Australia

Should you leave your rinnai 557ftr on all day at low temp rather than powering up late afternoon and early mornings
I would turn it on only after I am up in the morning to 20 C and just leave it on if I am in all day , and turn down the temp.to 16 C if I leave the house, this is good when you return , it won't be a freezer .
Hi Jenni, Thank you for your question. This would depend on personal preference, as either operating mode can be used. The least amount of gas will be used when the Rinnai Energysaver 557FTR is only operated when needed.
Thanks, Rinnai Australia
Thanks for that.
We have had a rinnai rhfe-557ftr heater for about 10 yrs. very good heater. Though we have had an ongoing issue since installation, in that there is a low whistle that comes into the machine.started off low but over the years is now obtrusive and annoying.can come on and off any time. seems to stem from the flue.anybody else had similar issues or know of a fix. thanks nivin
Hi Nivin, thanks for the question. We would recommend a service call to diagnose the issue with the unit. If it has been present since installation it sounds like the flue may not have been secured correctly.
Thanks Rinnia Australia

I have no idea about that LPG conversion, maybe the best people will be to call Rinnai and ask them . Sorry
Eddie Regards
My Rinnai Energysaver 557 FTR this morning made a trembling noise for about 4/5 minutes , when put it on. Is there something wrong with it ? Eddie
Thanks for the question Eddie, it's difficult to diagnose if this is a problem with the heater, has it been serviced recently? We do recommend with any gas heater that they are cleaned and serviced every 2 years to ensure optimum safety and performance.
