Rinnai Royale Model IB35ETR - Error 12. Also, read reviews from others and make a judgement – Bought it brand new and within the first year, had a Rinnai service person come to resolve the issue - pilot switches on but after a few seconds, the gas regarding the burners & pilot switches off (Error 12). The Rinnai service guy cleaned it with a vacuum cleaner & did a CO leakage test ( negative) , got the heater working. About 1.5yrs later,… Read more

the same issue has arisen. Do you keep paying $300+ each 2yrs to keep it running? I also have a Masport inbuilt gas heater and have had no issues whatever. I had the same problem that a previous reviewer, Ian M, had. I suggest you ask people who had such heaters in operation for a few years before you decide which brand you purchase. You don't want to buy & waste money on a troublesome appliance . Contacted Rinnai about my issue but since out of warranty, requested $225 call out fee plus additional charges for parts & labor to service & possibly fix the faulty heater. I was not interested in servicing a faulty & troublesome heater. This was mainly purchased to decorate an old fire place since my house has central heating - the heater was hardly used. Time to rip it out and take it to the local council for metal recycling - that's the only practical use for it. I will be buying a different brand this time based on people's past experiences and not on glossy brochures.

Great heater now more than 18 years – I can not fault my in-wall Rinnai Royale IB35, now serving us loyally for over 18 years. It gives a very comfortable heat once the ventilator kicks in. It never faults upon firing up, and I had to have the solenoid replaced once in all these years. The only weakness is the noise of the fan. I have another house to build a similar gas heater in,… Read more ·  1

but will first check if the new Rinnais (thinking of a Sapphire) have as much noise as this one. Apart from that, great gas heater lasting us for a long time already

A Royale disaster – Having previously owned a simple, but trouble free Rinnai gas heater, my wife and I felt confident of the same quality when buying the Royale ETR, however problems began shortly after installation with a noisy fan needing to be replaced. Then came the code 12 error problems that have persisted to this day despite countless attempts by Rinnai… Read more

servicemen to fix the problem. With the terrible reputation this heater has, it's no wonder Rinnai goes into hiding at the mention of code 12 problems. If you buy a cheap product you might expect problems, but at the time of our purchase, the Royale ETR was top of the Rinnai range and we paid a top of the range price for it. Our disappointment is twofold. Firstly, that for such an expensive product, it is so unreliable and secondly, that Rinnai don't offer to support their customers when they supply defective products such as this. I could not recommend this company.

wonderful when it worked now ERROR 11 will not run at all – Was perfect for a few years after purchasing the house - installed by previous owner. Then last winter ERROR code 11 appeared but the heater was still able to run, although the fan was super noisy. I rang for a service and after being cleaned out with a vac it now would not stay lit. The service guy put in an order for an upgrade kit and said… Read more

these heaters were known for being faulty. He left the heater in pieces and disappeared. I put it back together (inserted glass and wire guard on front) The parts arrived and (an apprentice) came an fitted the new kit into the unit. He was here from 10 am to 6 pm and gave up eventually. The heater still would not light so he said his boss would come and have a look. Another booking was arranged. The boss came and said he knew the apprentice could not fix the heater himself, he pulled the heater apart and replaced everything internally ( to be sure it was correctly fitted). Still the heater would not light. He said toss it and get a standard heater as this one has too many sensors and put a do not use tag on the heater (he said it would blow up if I used it) he then left. At the time I had just undergone brain surgery to have a tumor removed. I then received an email stating the repair work had been completed. Bottom line I still have no working heater. I have contacted the service department on several occassions - they now feel the need to ignore me. Book a service appointment they say. Why should I pay for a problem they are aware of and caused? Very bad service, very poor service technical team - I had to give them my manual as they did not know what they were doing. Employ people who know how to repair these units - no wonder they stopped making them. I have gone 2 winters (including this one) now with no heating and I paid a lot of $$$ in servicing for nothing The ACCC needs to investigate this company - very very angry.

Another unhappy customer – I can fully understand why this heater has been discontinued, after several years working ok i am now joining the que of very unhappy owners, pilot comes on but heater refuses to ignite and error 11 is displayed. By the overwhelming majority of online error 11 complaints that have so called been addressed by your service team only to appear… Read more

mysteriously again and again and your solution is book in another service call. Its blatantly obvious your service personal are not skilled enough to rectify the problem or this model and possibly others have serious design faults. I await a response from Rinnai.

More trouble than its worth – We had our inbuilt Royale since 03 and the amount of times it turns off is ridiculous. We ve had technicians out on many occasions assuring us it’s fixed but a short time later the same problems money down the drain again.Errors are 11-12-14-16-& 99 and now we can’t use it as number 12 appears and turns off,so don’t buy one  Show details

What crap – This review had to be written by the manufacturer. Nothing but errors year after year. They send out their own service guys year after year who say they know what the problems are. We had one guy pull it all apart and say he had fixed it for certain. He put it all back together and while he was still on site, error 11/12 and 14 came up. They may look good but WARNING: Do not buy rinnai.  Show details

enough is enough – Had it instralled 9 yrs ago. all went well for 5 yrs. then it started leaking gas. Had a Rinnai expert ea. yr. for the past 4 yrs.- having it 'serviced' 'cleaned' renewed switches etc.... now been told its the flu itself, in that is gets ''too cold'' . that perhaps insulating the flu may help. We are over it and am looking to have something else installed...believe me it won't be a Rinnai.

Nothing but trouble – We have had our heater for five years. Every year we have had service technicians to it at least 2-3 times per year. Rinnai only cover the first 12 months under warranty. We've replaced parts and had people repairing it regularly. We have learnt ourselves to do the dust and cleaning maintenance. Nothing but a lemon. Never buying Rinnai again. Multiple failures

Great heat, looks and operation – We have had this in our premium accommodation cottage for over 5 years. It looks great and has a fast and strong heat output and realistic and high flames. The remote works very well and the gas heater is economical to run even on bottled gas. With so many guests coming through, we have not had a complaint other than we had to change the battery… Read more

in the remote which died during one stay. We are about to buy a new gas inbuilt fire for a new accommodation and think we will stick with Rinnai as we are so happy with it. The trouble with reviews is that you never know if the opposition is having a go. Well priced, good heat output, great remote (although very small), attractive, economical

Terrible – We have only had problems with this heater. Screen fogs up and flame goes out. Display flashes with no12 and 48. We have had that many people come to fix it with no success. My brother had the same problems with the same heater. He got someone in to drill bigger holes in the gas/flame outlet part.

We've had ours 7 years and not had any problems at all. Maybe the dealer should take it back as it's obviously faulty and replace with a new one.

OK – The heater is beautiful to look and fitted nicely in a small space. But do not buy this one if you are looking for the quiet lifestyle (noisy fan). (Rinnai nice - AGL Caringbah not) This is a good looking fire, and good heat production. The fan is automatic and cannot be turned off -ever. The noise is unbearable (for us) and although we have had… Read more

the heater for a month it is unlivable (for us). We will be selling this one and purchasing a different brand. We contacted Rinnai who were very nice about it, but if purchasing this one be aware that the fan cannot be turned off, and there is a constant noise.
