What's the fuss all about? – I stumbled upon these reviews and thought I would add a review to correct the record. We had one installed on 16 June 2011 into a fireplace in Adelaide. It replaced a Rinnai Galaxy that sat in front of a sealed off fireplace. I have no idea what the complaints are about noise. It is whisper quiet on 1 and no noisier than any fan heater on 3! It heats the room very quickly. Show details ·  1

A disappointment from day 1 – I reviewed heating options and looked at numerous gas log heaters before purchasing a Rinnai Slimfire. I had it installed with a flu kit in an existing fireplace after removing an old gas heater. It looked good and I was excited about heating my living room. A few minutes later, the fan cut in and it was so loud I thought it must be faulty. I… Read more

went to all the gas heater supply shops in Adelaide to listen to other Slimfire heaters and couldn't find one that was plumbed in. When I contacted the Rinnai service centre, they were helpful and replaced the fan and checked the installation for a reasonable fee. It made no difference to the noise of the fan. I can't keep the heater on while the kids go to sleep and I have to watch TV with subtitles on while the heater is running.

Five years later and the heater is not working. The flame cuts out and the heater service technician i got out to look at the problem is struggling to find the issue. I have rung Rinnai Customer Service several times to request technical support and never had my call answered. Not recommended.

An old bus! – You would think by now someone would have invented a gas heater that looks nice, heats a room and is quiet. This fire sounds like an old bus. There is also no switch to turn off the fan or put it on low. Very frustrating. However, I have found a way to shut it up. Don't turn it on! Spend your $5000 on something else. Looks ok. Don't look forward to a quiet night in front of the fire with a good book.

It's so noisy! – The heater looked great in the brochures, its output suited the size of our rooms and fitted into our old oil fire space. It was long-winded to install, but Lenswood Gas did a great job and it looks as great as the brochures promised. It heats OK, and is very economical. But, no one anywhere mentioned how awfully noisy it is! We have had the fan… Read more

replaced under warranty in case it was faulty, and there was a problem with something missing from the manufacturing stage - but makes no difference, even on low setting. So am terribly disappointed and now need the TV on blast high to hear anything! Good looks and style, very energy efficient, reliable start. Great if you're deaf Noisy noisy noisy

OK – when purchasing we investgated if we need a flue because we have a masonary fire place and was told by elgas a rinnai we didnt after purchasing heated we were told before they would not send heater we had to purchase a $550.00 flue kit which we argued that on this web site and is advertising if you has a excisting fireplace you didnt need to get … Read more

flue kid well the bottom line they will not let you have one without it and rinnai and elgas said well that is the way it is so if you purchase or order this heat just remember you have to spend another $550.00 on a flue kit that you were told you didnt need if you have a fire place and the only other draw back with this heat is you have to have the fan running all the time even on low

that you have to purchase a flue kit ebven if you have a fire place they will not let you have it and that the fan has to run all the time even on low

Hi, how is the fireplace? Is it working well? Is it noisy? Does it heat well? Would love to heart your feedback.

Exactly what it promised – Have had the Slimfire for 4 months now. It was easy to install (bought on-line and installed myself in an existing fireplace, which needs no extra kit at all) and worked perfectly from day 1. I have seen other comments about it being noisy. If you want silent, buy an open-flame fireplace for the looks, but don't expect much heat. This looks… Read more

almost as good and throws out lots of heat. On low the fan is very quiet. On high it is louder (as the fan is working harder) but far quieter than a portable electric fan heater.

Overall, very happy. Reliable, looks good, fan as quiet as is possible, well-built Not really a con - it does not look quite as good as an open gas log fire (expected: it is a heater!)

OK – Over all, reasonable price for gas fire places, suited our purpose to replace old gass heater, in real fire place. Small to fit into existing fireplace, ample heat output A little noisy, however a real fire will always have a zero noise, so expectation may have been a little high
