26 years on and it still starts 2nd pull – My Rover quickstart deluxe looks a lot older than than these others pictured so its possibly the first of that model. As the title reads I've had this for 26 years. Bought it at age 20 and I'm now 46. I've had it serviced twice only and it starts 2nd pull. I've only replaced the blades once myself and the 2 times it was serviced plus the pull cord once during the service. It's workload is your standard suburban front and backyards around 200² Show details
Very reliable – The mower has been far more reliable and lasted much longer than i hoped for. My dream has always been for a Honda Residential or Buffalo, and as i was on a very small block in Brisbane, i chose the Rover as an interim mower. That was 10 years ago, now i'm on a large block and the Rover won't die. All ive done is change the oil once and the blades… Read more
twice, and cleaned the air-filter (which i should replace), never been to the shop. So i've either been lucky or it actually generally is quite a good mower.
Lousy mower. Don't buy one – Bought the mower 2.5 seasons ago mostly due to the Rover brand and it was in the upper cost bracket of mowers at Bunnings. I use the mower on an average suburban block with about 350m2 of lawn area. Cons: dreadful to start despite the 'easy start' sticker on the mower.... what a joke; pull cord is way too long and the only sign of engine coming… Read more
to life is in the last 300mm and I've put my back out now several times; a wheel literally fell off while I was mowing (I'm not joking); has a connection for the hose so the cutting area underneath can be cleaned but the connection is located in such an awkward position with springs and throttle gear in the way so it's near impossible to connect it; also feels a bit cheap.
Pros: cuts okay; looks pretty good; comfortable grip.
I'll be getting rid of it soon but trick is what mower to buy?? I'm thinking a Honda or a Masport. Cuts okay; looks pretty good; comfortable grip. Dreadful to start; wheel literally fell off; hose connection poorly positioned.
Ok product – Probably a bit heavy for my suburban block, but I like the big 4 stroke engine, starts after about 3 - 4 pulls. Pity the starter pull rope broke after 2 years & you have to buy the whole assembly for $65 as no parts are available for it. The air filter box is also fragile, it's all cracked & broken now. + Big reliable 4 stroke engine. + 4 blades cut well. - Some fittings are fragile & some parts are impossible to get. - It's heavy. how many cc does the engine have?.
Is it a heavy duty mower?.
OK – I have a large lawn and had this mower just on 2 years and despite the cons I can say if given the chance again I would still buy it but not before comparing prices on similar Rovers with Briggs engines. My only real concern is long term for the engine which appears to be "no name". Despite keeping it well mainted and using good quality fuel it… Read more
takes about 3 pulls to start. It doesn't have a primer which I am told is normal for a OHV engine. But compare it to my Fathers rover with a briggs and stratton, 11 years old, not really well maintained but 3 pushes of the primer and it still starts first pull. I doubt this engine will do the same in 9 years. I have about 50sq metres of shaded area which can be dusty. Due to the dust mentioned in cons I now brushcut that area. I wouldn't suggest buying it if your lawn has a lot of dusty areas Plenty of power When mulching the grass is very finely chopped but it tends to leaves lines of grass. When using the catcher it sometimes leaves grass on the lawn well before the catcher is full, mainly in thicker, but not long, grass.
Even though the air filter is fitted correctly it shows signs of a finely dusted surface behind the filter. The filter housing is quite thin plastic.
My model might be the first type and the handles are slightly different than pictured. I'm of average height but the handle is quite high so if you are slightly shorter than average check the feel of the handle.
Just to post a follow up.. 2 years after writing this review the engine got harder to start and… Read more
OK – Just an OK mower. Need to rethink the wheel arrangement on the left. Customer service replaced the bolt after some pleading but would not recognise the warranty (registered online on day of purchase) without receipt; an obsolete policy these days. Average mower. Starts first time every time. Heavy though! For this weight you would expect a 21"… Read more
cut or more. Heavy: 37Kg. Left rear wheel fell off and lost retaining bolt - you would think they would reverse the thread on the left due to obvious undoing direction on this side. Does not mulch very well compared to my fantastic Yard Machines 21".
i have had similar problems with my quickstart, wheels falling off , broken pull start rope and broken air filter box. just a ok mower.
