Perfect toasting of thin, thick slices of bread including bagels and crumpets. Better than my previous toaster. Matches my Heritage Purple Electric Kettle. Couldn’t be happier. See my review for the matching kettle too!

Glad it has been discontinued – I purchased a toaster in a rush between Christmas & New Year Dec 2018. I loved the look of the Russell Hobbs Heritage 2 slice toaster (Black) & it was easy to clean. The 2 year replacement warranty was the deciding factor. That sounded great. It cooked very well & well as far as the buttons/levers etc there were no problems for approx 4… Read more

months.

My toast was cooking evenly & the lights were easy to see.

My toast popped up when cooked.

The power lead was long enough to just reach the nearest power point.

Suddenly, the bread/toast failed to drop down when the lever was pressed & also failed to pop up. I discovered that the wire on one end of the pop up section (inside where the bread sat) was popping out of the hole at the end. When it popped out, it was like a crooked spring. The first time I managed to get it back into place & it worked fine for a week or 2, then popped out again. Same thing again. Then the final straw both sides were like uneven swings. Neither would drop down nor pop up again.

I returned it for replacement to Harris Scarfe which was a hassel free easy process but then my choice of a new toaster was very limited as it was 2 slice & they have a very limited choice. I had to pay more for a replacement as it was a higher value & a different manufacturer. There were no Russell Hobbs 2 slice toasters available. Bit disappointed as I would have preferred & really expected a straight swap after only approx 6 months use.

On my second one – I am on my second version of this toaster. Version 1.0 started blowing the house fuse when I used it. As it was quite a few years old, and had been happy with the performance, I decided to replace it with the same one. Now, just a little over a year later, it is doing exactly the same thing. How much money does one need to spend to get a single… Read more

Doesn't work properly – Have had this for just over 2 years now, and I've never managed to get evenly toasted bread- there is always one side that doesn't get toasted properly. I put bread in on the lowest setting, and flip it when it pops up and toast again for the other side. Quite inconvenient. Luckily I never bought it myself- it was a gift, but I certaintly wouldnt buy another or recommend it to anyone else.  Show details

confusing at first – at first I was a little intimidated and very confused never in my life b4 have I seen a toaster with so many buttons . Then I read the user manual was a aahhhaaaaa moment ..perfect toast every time that's what I am talking about . I would be happy to suggest it as a toaster to buy.  Show details

Not great – Bought this 4 slice toaster after our previous Russell Hobbs 4 slice gave up the ghost, after 4 years of use. We read reviews for many toasters before settling on this one, however this certainly isn't a patch on the old one. Negatives: Burns toast at the bottom of each slice very easily, despite us being very careful to ensure it isn't on a… Read more

high setting before each toasting.

When you are only toasting one frozen slice of bread, and you put the "frozen" setting on, the toast is almost black on one side, and fine on the other. We have now decided to not use the "frozen" setting for times when we only toast one frozen piece of bread, as this seems to produce a better piece of toast.

Positives:

It's a nice Cherry Red...that's about it.

Faulty within 1 month! – This attractive toaster looked good but functionally is a disaster. Only worked properly for 1 month. Elements are not working properly - only light up for 30 seconds or so then turn off. The toaster cuts off mid toasting and will not pop up. I have to stand over my toast and manually force the slider Up to get the toast to pop up. These are 2 major faults.  Show details

Been a great toaster – I’ve had this toaster for at least 3 years now & it’s always worked so great! Crumb trays so easy to remove and clean. Unfortunately it is starting to get a little “tired” from all the use over the years (kids love toast) but was such a great value buy!  Show details

Disappointing Perfirmance – When I purchased my heritage 4 slice toaster 3 years ago I had to return it to the store because the elements on one side were not working. For the last 6 months the toaster cuts off mid toasting and will not pop up. I'm not sure what has happened with this brand in recent times as the last Russell Hobbs toaster worked reliably for years. It… Read more

appears I am not the only one with this problem. It's really disappointing that what used to be a quality brand has declined so rapidly.

Not the Russell Hobbs I knew – I purchased my 4 slice toaster approximately 2 years ago. Because my last RH toaster and jug lasted 20 years! To be fair they were English imports. I also have 2 slots which only toast on one side. And very shortly after purchasing the "good" side stopped popping up. My sister has had the same experience with her toaster. It seems they cut corners now that they outsourced to China. Such a shame!  Show details

Waste of money! – So disappointed in this product! I brought this toaster about 18months ago. Within a few months of using it the elements started to fail only one side working and the toast not popping up. Since this is a very recommend brand usally I thought spending my money would be well worth! But it has been the biggest waste of money! I'm now going to buy a $30 toaster that has good reviews!  Show details

What a piece of rubbish – I bought this toaster as I was under the WRONG impression that Russell Hobbs was a premium brand. I bought the matching kettle as well. The toaster didn't work out of the box, one of the elements didn't heat up at all, so I went back to the store to replace it. The replacement was okay initially, and then a few months later it chose to only pop… Read more

up occasionally. Now it just doesn't pop up at all so we can't tell when the toast is done unless we keep checking. Oh, and the matching kettle? That leaks water all over the bench. Absolute trash. Russell Hobbs needs to read these reviews as many quality manufacturers do, and actually do something to build back consumer trust.

Really rubbish – This isn't a good toasted for a number of reasons: - It's super slow. Thick seedy bread takes longer than any other toaster I've owned - Of the four slots, two of them have had elements fail on one side - The other two slots don't pop up when it's finished toasting. The element turns off but it doesn't pop. The toaster's a bit over two years old and was a wedding present. We won't buy RH again.  Show details

constant failure – Bought this toaster because it looks so pretty - bright red and four slices - seemed perfect. However after about a month the one side no longer popped up. Had a guarantee so returned it. Three subsequent failures and realise this is simply a fault in the design. Very disappointing and will now buy a different, not so pretty toaster.  Show details

Worst Toaster ever – Hi, I purchased this toaster in April in good faith it's been the worst purchase and I have called them today to replace this as unfortunately for me I did buy it at Target (never again) and I have no receipt. It takes so long to toast and one side only gets done. They have said I need to send the dam thing to Melbourne its a four slice toaster as its under warranty but not good enough am afraid...not very happy.  Show details

Worst Toaster EVER – Do not even think about buying this toaster, I returned the first toaster on day two as it only toasts one side of the bread. Picked up my replacement toaster for it to do exactly the same thing, only toasts one side of the bread. You can see the outside elements glowing quickly and hot however the elements on the inside do not heat up in the same way. As someone else said when did toasters become so expensive and so really, really bad.  Show details

Dangerous! – Both my husband and myself have had very bad cuts from this toaster. I picked the toaster up by putting my fingers in the slot, and got the worst cut on my finger, needed stitches. This is really dangerous especially if you have children. Mine is the four slice toaster purchased from Target.  Show details

Disappointing – This toaster worked OK for about a year. Now the toast doesn't pop up on one side and it has become very slow to toast the bread. It also cooks very unevenly. To make matters worse, we can't find the receipt because it was bought on a voucher as a wedding gift and although we believe it is still under warranty, we are unable to claim it.

Worst toaster ever I have usef – Well I purchase this toaster as it had 4 slots for toast as the family has breakfast, however every time we went to use it the fuse in the house would blow. Worst toaster EVER – Where do I start? Sometimes the bread only toasts on one side, sometimes not at all on both sides and it pops up as "done". Sometimes it overtoasts, and sometimes it doesn't pop up at all but the elements have turned off. Very rarely can I say I have had toast that is acceptable. I have only ever touched the toasting dial and never used any of the other "features" so why is this toaster so possessed? Its a toaster, people!! How hard can it be?

What a piece of junk – Purchased from target. I thought by purchasing the most expensive toaster it would be good quality. After only a few weeks the toast would not stay down. Shortly after one of the levers to push the toast down broke off followed soon after by the other one. I contacted Russell Hobbs and I have to send it back to them at my expense . Very disappointed

All the problems mentioned above – Ist one was taken back after 3 moonths as the spring seemed to have gone on one side and would not stay down. We were very careful with it and never forced the lever up, so it wasnt rough handling. Second one after 2 weeks has stopped popping up when done. The uneven browning we were prepared to live with but the difficulty of prising out lttle pieces of GF bread out of red hot toaster is wearing.

Do not waste your money – I 100% agree with Flexible but flawed - it's like he is in my kitchen! One side is perfectly toasted, the other is just warm bread. One side always gets stuck, doesn't matter what's been put in it (bread, muffin, crumpet). This happened within the first month! Seems as though you have to spend 200 plus on toasters, even then it's not always perfect. When did toasters become so expense and so useless? It's not rocket science.

Flexible but flawed – I selected this toaster because of the flexibility of using only half the toaster (for one or two slices) or the whole toaster (three or four slices), without the need to have the entire toaster operating (and using maximum power) when only half of it is needed. Two finger-touch levers allow one end of the toaster (two slices) and/or the other end… Read more

(two more slices) to operate. Each half of the toaster has its own convenient controls for degree of browning, defrost selection, mid-cycle ejection, and reheat. The toasting slots are generously wide for thick bread, muffins, and so on. This was everything I could have hoped for. On the other hand, I have found that in at least two slots the toasting of a slice is uneven - brown on one side, and deathly pale on the the other, or brown on one side and overdone on the other; in some cases the unevenness is on one side, so that the slice needs to be re-inserted upside down for an all-over toast.

This is the biggest frustration. Another is that when the machine finishes toasting a slice in the slot at each end, more often than not the edge of the slice nearest the end of the machine (that is, left hand side for slot 1, and right hand for slot 4) catches under the lip of the slot so that it is not raised sufficiently for easy removal. A tendency to want to push the slice down and swing it away from the catching edge is annoying, but is also dangerous because fingers in slots of toasters is a burn hazard, or, if the slice is inadvertently pushed down too hard to free it, it is an electrocution hazard if the current to the wire element was automatically actuated by pushing the slice too deeply. The edge-jamming problem is encountered more with standard thick sliced bread compared to sandwich sliced thickness. I would not buy this model again if I could find a model that has the same advantages and flexibility but without the flaws.

Do Not Buy - Worst ever toaster – We thought a toaster in the higher price range would mean quality. No. The toast only toasts on one side. It is the slowest toaster we have ever had. We returned one toaster but the replacement is no better. Do not buy this product - it is rubbish and very disappointing.

Crap - don't waste your money! – Worked OK for about a month - just long enough for me to lose the receipt. Thought I'd spend a bit more for quality - boy was I wrong! Some slices started browning only on one side, then stopped popping when "done". Anyone know if there is any manufacturer out there making things that work and last?

Dont buy this product it is useless! – The toast does not get done on both sides!! It was bought at Good Guys and in an effort to get one that works properly have returned it 2 times and the 3rd one we now have still does not work - the store owner told us that's how toasters work by reflection from the other side???-so why is there an element on each side???We have given up and will return it and the matching kettle and now need to pay more for a better product.

Terrible quality ! – This toaster is still under warranty and like other Hobb's products I have purchased it has failed too. has failed, so you have to turn the toast around and do it all over again to get both sides done, and finally it takes a long time to finish toasting. As far as I am concerned these products should be called " Rubbish Hobbs " . I know it's still under warranty, but it's a simple toaster and do we want the hassles ? I am finished with Hobbs products and will go back to tried and true brands,....... and it should be no stars !

better performance. The only reason I gave this toaster 2 stars instead of 1 is that I had a Morphy Richards and it was even worse! Looks good, saves power as only 2 slices if you want toast unevenly cooked and if you cook a second lot of toast soon atferwards it is not cooked when it pops

Toaster like any other cheap toaster – Love the colour but so not worth the price. Within 3 months it started to not toast two slices of bread properly. One piece would toast ok but the other would only toast on one side. No different to any $20 toaster you buy from kmart. The colours are the only thing going for it. The purple colour! No different to the super cheap toasters out there.

Extra lift - you have to be kidding! – I wanted this toaster because it is one of the few around that has a crumpet/bagel setting. centimetre. Which is a joke. You still have to turn the power off etc and use a knife to get the crumpets/bagels out. So it useless as a crumpet toaster. I've seen more lift on $10 toaster from Coles.

As I live in a regional area I bought this toaster through Harvey Norman on-line. They are refusing to take it back as they consider the useless extra lift to be a 'design flaw'. Colour No extra lift. Takes a long time to cook anything.
