I bought this slow cooker from Harvey Norman. It advertises a 7L capacity but is approximately 5.5L, I measured it out myself. It has the exact same cook pot as a BigW brand contempo. I don't know where they get the 7L measurement from but should be false advertising. I attempted to warn others via a Harvey Norman review but they blocked it, so don't trust Harvey Norman reviews if you want an accurate picture of their products. Show details

It's a good value slow cooker however not having a light that indicates if it's working could be very frustation for a user who chucks dinner on, comes home and finds out their cooker is faulty rather than ready to eat ... Russell Hobbs, take this on board!

No LED. No way to know if switched on – Avoid this cooker. It does not have a LED. You have no way of knowing if it is switched on without touching it to see if its hot. If you have kids how do they know not to touch it. Im surprised Russell Hobbs are even allowed to produce an appliance that doesnt have this basic safety function. Just to save a few pennies. Ive used mine once but will not use again..I will not even give it away.....it will go in the bin. Show details

Good value, slick looking, entry level slow cooker – We love our slow cooked meals, lamb shanks, pulled pork, chicken casseroles and all the vegetables infused with flavour. The RHSC7 works very well, has 3 manual heat settings and a good 7 litre capacity. It is missing some features such as a timer, or automatically adjusted heat settings (i.e. cook then keep warm) however it is much cheaper than… Read more

devices that have these functions.

Pro's: - Value for money - Cooks slowly as described! - Sleek design looks great on the kitchen bench - Decent 2 year warranty - Dishwasher safe which we love - Simple and easy to to use without reading the manual

Con's: - 3 manual heat settings (if you change your schedule the cooker doesn't know) - Short power cord - No light or other indication to quickly see if cooker is heating - No timer (I use a wifi power point adaptor so I can time or turn it off remotely if I get stuck at work)

A functional and easy-to-use slow cooker – The Russel Hobbs Slow Cooker enters the market as a basic, yet functional appliance aimed at simplifying the cooking process. Designed for those new to slow cooking or seeking a straightforward kitchen tool, this cooker offers a blend of utility and simplicity. With a focus on performance rather than advanced features, it is very simple (if not… Read more

too basic) to use. You put your food in, set it on low or high, and let it do its thing. The low setting cooks slow and steady for 8 hours or more, while the high setting cuts that time in half. But, there's no timer to turn it off or switch it to keep warm, which would've been really handy.

Key Features and Observations:

Pros: Capacity: The 7-liter bowl is adequately sized for families, capable of preparing large meals or accommodating multiple servings with ease. Design: Sporting a matte black finish with silver accents and a clear glass lid, the cooker is visually appealing and likely to complement modern kitchen aesthetics. Ease of Cleaning: The ceramic bowl is dishwasher safe, facilitating easy cleanup and maintenance. Energy Efficiency: The cooker's power consumption is modest, making it an economical choice for regular use. User-Friendly: With three heat settings (low, high, warm) and a simple rotary knob, the appliance is straightforward to operate, suitable for those seeking a no-frills slow cooking solution.

Cons: Lack of Timer: The absence of a programmable timer limits the cooker's flexibility, requiring users to be more hands-on with their meal planning and preparation. Power Cord Length: The relatively short power cord may restrict placement options in some kitchen layouts. Indicator Light: The lack of an LED power indicator can lead to uncertainty regarding the appliance's operating status. Design Flaws: Certain elements, such as the lid's hook and the pot's stability within the unit, suggest room for improvement in design coherence and practicality. Cost: At the cost of $79 retail, there are probably better* alternatives, such as multi-cookers, even though they are more expensive, but they are far more advanced and versatile.

Despite these limitations, the cooker has demonstrated its capability to produce satisfactory meal outcomes. It handles a variety of recipes well, from stews and soups to slow-cooked meats, albeit with a learning curve regarding optimal cooking times and settings. It accomplishes its primary task of slow cooking with competence, though it misses opportunities for enhanced convenience through additional features. Prospective buyers with basic slow cooking needs and a preference for simplicity may find this appliance aligns with their expectations.

Are you new to Slow Cooking? Understand what you're buying first – Ok. I didn't have a slow cooker in the kitchen until now, and in a nutshell, this appliance does what it is supposed to. Yes, it's convenient, and it will give you some time back, but it can also lock you down to the house. Have I got you thinking yet? Let me set the scene. You throw all your ingredients into the cooker, place your tough piece… Read more

of shoulder or shin of your favourite animal in, turn the dial to LOW, and disappear off to work for 8+ hours. You leave work to come home to a beautifully cooked piece of meat, but your best friend stops you and asks you for a quick drink, or your boss asks you to work overtime when you return home 12-14 hours later and realise that your food is still cooking and the meat has completely decomposed. Then what?

Ok. Let's use the HIGH setting, which now reduces the time in half compared to the low setting. Place the same ingredients into the pot and switch on. Now, your dinner will be ready in about 5 hours. It's worse because your meal is not cooking while you're at work, and it will take too long to cook a 5 hour meal when you get home, so it is now more of a weekend cook.

Now... Imagine if you could program the perfect amount of Low and High heat and then switch off to Keep Warm. Unfortunately, you cannot, and nowadays, many cooking appliances have timers that can be programmed according to your busy schedule.

Let's take a closer look at the cooker and point out some design flaws i found that could be fixed that would make this appliance shine;

- As mentioned above, a timer is needed to allow the user to cook and keep warm; otherwise, they're tied to this cooker. - Introduce a Power-On light. The external casing is around 90+DegC so you need some indicator. - Increase the size of the appliance power cord. It measures approximately 65cm in length. - Get rid of the 'so-called' hook from the inside of the lid. It just gets in the way of larger pieces of meat. Why would you perch a lid on the edge of the appliance anyway? Its not like the condensation drains back into the pot. - The crock pot feels like it doesn't belong to the cooking element. It just flops around. Its probably made that way for a reason but know idea why. - Selector setting on the dial doesn't really stand out.

It's not all doom and gloom, and I give credit to making some pretty awesome dinners so far. The twice-cooked lamb shoulder was divine, as it was cooked in the Russel Hobbs the day before and then reheated and browned in the Kamodo (charcoal) oven for an hour the next night. Do your research on recipes through Google, as the provided book could be more helpful. It should have been QR-coded instead which linked to many users recipes.

Now for the performance... Although the casing/element is relative light-weight and has a cheap feel about it, they have included a well-insulated ceramic bowl (its heavy). As for the greenies out there, this device is excellent on power. The Lamb Shoulder consumed approximately 1.65KW total consumption across the 5 hours (on High), equating to around 40-50 cents.

- LOW Setting: ~0.210 KW/h - HIGH Setting: ~0.330 KW/h

Verdict: 3 stars (lacks basics in design) 5 stars for the results of the cook.

Short cord but otherwise a good machine! – Excellent slow cooker. Cooks evenly. The glass lid is great to see what's going on inside. There is a handy lid holder on the side - not sure if you would use it as the lid is usually covered in condensation so you would wet your benchtop using it when the unit is in operation but thought I would mention it anyway. This unit is a fair bit… Read more

lighter than the ones I have had in the past. The control button just has a couple of settings (low, high, warm, and off) and the text is large and easy to read without my reading glasses. A couple of things to note that are neither here nor there but worth a mention - the little feet the machine stands on are quite short - they leave "just enough" room for the power cord. After the machine has been on for a few hours we were a little concerned the power cord might get damaged / melt etc as the outer casing of the cooker gets quite hot and the cord is very close to it. Constant checking of the cord and it seemed ok but Russell Hobbs if you are reading this you might make the legs a little higher or put a protecting plastic shroud on the cord where it passes the machine to protect it from the heat. The other note is the instructions indicate you should not submerge the inner ceramic pot in water. On checking, the base rim the pot its on is not sealed so I can see that immersion in water might be a problem. I washed up the pot just with water inside it which was ok though - its something to be mindful of though. So, the only gripe with this machine is the length of the cord. Must the the shortest cord on any appliance ever!? It would be lucky to be 50cm (should have measured it sorry!) - it's annoyingly short. You need a powerpoint exactly right where you are going to do your cooking otherwise you will need an extension lead. This is really the only issue I found and come on Russell Hobbs this is such an easy fix and a really bad thing to skimp on. The shortness of the cord is why I didn't give it 5 stars.

Cooks well but appliance has a few features missing – I was lucky enough to trial this with the ambassador program. Pros: Good value for money. Looks classy on my bench. We got the black version. big bowl. I love the lid can rest on the handle while adding extras during cooking. Non slip feet. Food comes out tender and flavourful. Makes cheaper meat tender.

Cons: No “on” light which I found very strange. Cord could be longer. What is it with companies and short cords.

Overall this is a good practical appliance that has saved us a lot of time. My husband has even been using it and was impressed after his shoulder roast fell off the bone. Anything that makes him cook is a winner in my eyes. Good quality, great price and cooks delicious food. I have enjoyed using it. Please upgrade with an on light!and a longer cord. There would be nothing more annoying than coming home to a cold uncooked dinner because you thought you had turned it on.

good practical product that does everything a slow-cooker at this price point should do. Perfect size for a family of 4 - 6 with the 7 litre bowl. Simple instructions and functional. Very easy to follow if you haven't used a slow cooker before.

Cosmetics and Form Factor: - Sleek, well designed, matte black with silver highlights and a clear glass lid the appliance and wouldn't be out of place permanently on your countertop in a modern kitchen. - 3 heat settings (low, high, warm) accessed by a single rotary knob - 7 litre Dishwasher safe ceramic bowl

Use and who is this for? What I liked was the simplicity of the device, speed reaching the appropriate temperature, super easy to clean ceramic bowl. At the end of the day this is a slow cooker... it does what it needs to do well and looks amazing on my new kitchen island. - This is a practical solution for someone who is simply needs a basic, budget slow cooker that does what it says on the label with no bells and whistles. - Perfect for quick one pot meals like soups, pot roasts, curries, lasagna and baking breads and desserts once you have understood the device and the heat settings. Some of my meals were slightly underdone to begin with, but there was a short learning curve as you would expect with any device like this. It took me about 3 meals to figure it out. - Put everything thing in in the morning at 8am and dinner is ready by 6pm, alternatively put everything in before you go to bed for a hot, slow cooked meal ready in the morning - Only one dish to clean up and less time spent in the kitchen (YAY!)

Opportunity areas: - The biggest miss here is an led indicator to tell you if the device is actually heating or not. I have to actually touch the pot to see if it is heating up. I didn't check once, and realized that I didn't have dinner ready a whole 8 hours later. :( - Power cord is very short, however this is easily remedied with an extension. - An off timer would be nice, however I appreciate that these functions are usually reserved for higher end devices. I simply attach this one to a smart switch so I can switch it off remotely.

Would I buy one again? YES

1. Form factor for me is a positive. The 7 ltr is necessary to make a good sized pot roast for our family of four. I can also fit two whole chickens in there.

2. It is very easy to clean, simply take the ceramic bowl out of the main device and give it a clean.

4. I would probably take this out to the next camping trip at a powered site and make a slow cooked meal .

5. Perfect device for one-pot soups, stews, curries and pot roasts.

6. Put everything thing in in the morning at 8am and dinner is ready by 6pm, alternatively put everything in before you go to bed for a hot, slow cooked meal ready in the morning

7. Only one dish to clean up and less time spent in the kitchen (YAY!)

Odd and annoying design flaws, will cook your food just fine – I was kindly offered the opportunity to trial this item as a product ambassador. taste to other slow cookers I have used.

Unfortunately, there are design flaws for this unit that I found rather impractical and seemed to have a comedy of problems that actually caused physical injury.

-There is no indicator light to show it’s actually turned on. -The outside becomes very hot. The lack of indicator light became a catch 22, as I had to touch the unit to tell if it was heating up and hurt my hand from the heat. I would be very careful resting this on a stone bench without a board underneath as the heat may cause cracking. -Cord is incredibly short - this does not work on my kitchen to position in a safe location, and appears to be a bugbear for others as well. -The unit has long screws that stick out of the bottom…I don’t know why this is. It scratched me when picking up the unit. -The lid seems very loose and seems a poor fit for the bowl, even allowing for variable of heat expansion.

I like cooking dinner without struggle or injury, so I unfortunately can’t really recommend this product. But it will cook your food and get the job done.

Basic and reliable, but pretty elegant too – The slow cooker is a very useful appliance and it's great to see them making a comeback. its sturdy enough to go straight in the oven for top browning. Oh, and its big enough to do a whole leg of lamb. Previously we used a pressure cooker for slow cooking, but this unit is a bit simpler to use and features the glass lid (who doesn't like to watch?) Personally, I would have liked a little more power as when it's full it takes a long time to come up to a bubbling simmer, but it seems slow cookers are all about patience. You can just set and forget and come back to a well-cooked meal after several hours with no fear of boil overs or overcooking.

The controls are simple - a four position knob - and it's incredibly easy to clean. Very happy with the cooking experience; we do mainly asian-flavoured slow pork stews or greek-style lamb, but keen to try a lasagne soon.

calling to ask questions about it and were lovely and thorough in their dealings with me about the slow cooker. A new unit was shipped to me and works perfectly.

Pros: - It cooks evenly and thoroughly. We tried: Chicken teriyaki, baked/stewed apples; lasagne; two different currys and one Korma in it and all were cooked perfectly by the time we went to have dinner - A Terracotta bowl vs a non stick bowl is much healthier for the family and the planet. I don't have to worry about the non stick rubbing off with age or leeching of toxic chemicals into the food due to it being cooked for so many hours. - Its well made and very well packaged/presented in the box, if I know I won't be using it for a good while or want to travel with it, (or are moving house) the box packing of it is such that I would feel really safe with it packed away and moved without anything breaking in transit. - Its priced well and easily sourced - Comes with a recipe book with lots of yummy meals and even deserts in it. I had no idea you could make fudge in the machine and this is something I'm keen to try next. Along with creamed rice. - Its so good coming home to a cooked meal after a big day out or at work and this machine does it all, while also not burning the food and locking in flavours. - Being a glazed terracotta bowl and glass lid, no food smells or flavours were left over in the pot or the machine after cooking each time. (The house smells lovely too!) - All parts are really easily cleaned and or wiped over. Nothing ever stuck to the bowl inside. - Its a semi large machine but not really much bigger than a family sized rice cooker. Its easily stored when not in use thanks to its oval shape. - Recipes to cook in it are really easily sourced online too, I still have a massive list of things to cook in it.

Things that could be better - I'd love to see a light of some kind or even a little beep? To tell you when it is in operation. It takes a good while to heat up and is a bit of a trust excerise to know if it's working or not as a result. - The cord is far far too short. I've noticed this with all our RH items. The cord could use to be at least half a metre longer. - This is a bit nit picking but a warning on the side of the machine detailing that there is a lot of heat that travels down into your bench might be good too. I put a thick breadboard under ours and both the bench under it and the draw under that were quite warm after food was done cooking. I'd be so upset if I didn't put the breadboard there and it burnt my rental houses bench. But I know that I am also a very forgetful person too, and would need to see the sticker to remind me to put something under the machine each time.

Ok experience, yet tasty meal – An honest review on the RHSC7 I was offered the opportunity to review this item from Russel Hobbs. meal. Below are my PROS & CONS.

PROS: Stylish Decent Ceramic bowl size Clear Shatterproof Glass lid ( allowing you to see progress of meal) 2 year Warranty Cooks well

CONS : NO indicator notifying ON/OFF - turning dial knob to set heat level No indication on which heat level you are using. Low/High/Warm Google search on preheating, may take up to 20 min Casing of RHSC7 when in use is Hot, Yes, keep little hands away Having to use more than 1 appliance to pre-prepare meal. Eg: searing meats/poultry - browning onions etc. Awareness of Ceramic bowl - heat/cold shock * poor safety design. Screws extended on the base as seen in photos

Overall, our meal was succulent. The chicken pieces were tender, which is what one expects. Once the meal is in full progress, you have the freedom of doing other chores. We have become a society of having meals cooked asap. This is not a pressure cooker level, it is as stated Slow Cooker. What the additional cost on electricity is, I’m not certain. Other than the casing, all items can be washed. I assume can be placed in dishwasher, I don’t have this appliance within my kitchen.

They say it is 7litres. I measured it and it is 6L full to the Brim – I bought this because i wanted a bigger slow cooker then my old 5 Litre Kambrook slow cooker. I measured the ceramic bowl in both. My Kambrook says it is 5 litres and it is when measured. The Hobbs says it is 7 litres, but is only 6 litres when measured in the same ceramic bowl. Show details

Sleek – I love the look of this slow cooker, matte black, nothing beats that for me. I only got it this week and used it straight away to test out. It cooks more evenly than my old one, so that’s a plus. The only thing I wasn’t sure about is there is no light to indicate if it is on or not. So I put it on and came back 30 mins later to see if it had warmed up or not. It worked but an indication would be good. Show details

check the cooker by feeling it to see of it was warming up and also the knob seems slightly flimsy, so I am careful when turning it on. The food that comes out of this appliance is just amazing, I love the huge 7 Litre capacity I had been looking years for a slow cooker that was more than 5 litres and this fits the bill perfectly, for cooking times and flavorful food that comes out at the end, even though this cooker does NOT have the indicator light, I am still happy with it and know now to just go by feel.
