This is good cooker, but it is not magic. You need to know about rices from other sources – I've had this cooker for about 15+ years. I purchase 3 additional units for gifts to family members. RIGHT OFF THE BAT: The instructions refer a "CUP." The included cup referred to is a proprietary size which is HALF a standard measuring cup, so measure accordingly! The cooker is not deficient in any way, but the manual certainly is deficient.… Read more

After all, how much instruction does a a semi-automatic cooker need? Not much! but it should be clear and accurate about different 1) varieties of rice, 2) Proportions of water to rice for different varieties, 3) How to adjust cook times and schedules. The latter means, "Is there anything I need to do during the cooking time?" The answer is yes, yes, and yes! Rice VARIETIES, as the capitalized word implies, vary greatly just as almost all vegetable items we eat. So do a little research on rice varieties, their characteristics, what are their ideal uses, ideal cooking method, and most importantly, which variety you like the most and prepare the most. Prepare a spreadsheet in EXCEL of rice varieties and attributes. Print it out and laminate it because you will refer to it often. It will be the only manual you'll need. Shame on RUSSELL HOBBS for not including this information in the manual.

Cooks Rice well, but can leave a mess behind – I bought this rice cooker, as I've always found it the quickest and most convenient way to cook rice. However, I don't think I'll ever buy this one again. Not that it's a bad rice cooker, just that there are better ones in the market. While the Teflon coating was great initially, it started wearing off despite using a soft sponge for cleaning and… Read more

the plastic spoon provided. The worst feature was the lid. It was very light and would keep rattling with the steam. In one instance, it was lifted off the base. I also often end up with a messy kitchen bench, as it would overflow mid way through the cooking cycle. I wish the lid was heavier (glass), so that it would stay on during the cooking. Also, getting the rice and water ratio was a bit hit and miss - I would often end up with burnt rice at the bottom. My next rice cooker will have a glass lid!! Cooks well. Light lid, overflows, burnt rice at the bottom

Good – Really happy with it. Even after the cat knocked it off the bench, it still works fine! Although the lid is made of soft metal so it dented easily. Don't leave smaller batches of rice to warm for too long or it will burn a little bit. "10-cup rice cooker" is a little deceiving, they aren't metric cups, they are "Russell Hobbs" cups, slightly… Read more

smaller than metric but that isn't a real problem, you can still cook a lot of rice! Simple and easy to use. Great for curry parties, lots of rice & keeps it warm. Minimum 4 cups at a time. A little bit wasteful if only cooking for 2.

OK – We generally cook for 4 people, with Basmati Rice and have found that you have to use plenty of water (2 to 3cm over the level of the rice). Turn the cooker on and wait for it to boil (the lid starts to vibrate). Open the lid and stir the rice (this stops it burning on the bottom). Close lid and TURN OFF the cooker. Presto - the rice will cook… Read more

in about 15-20mins! Really good non-stick bowl makes cleaning very easy.

Simple to use - controls are Cook or Warm You can't leave it unattended to cook the rice, as it boils over, but we've worked out a system - see below.

Bad – My husband and I bought this about 5 years ago when we first started living together. I had never had a rice cooker before but he came from a family that eats a lot of rice and assured me we needed one. We use it once-twice a week. I think it is a lot easier to get well-cooked nice tasting rice using the rice cooker than on the stove or… Read more

microwave, but this one does take some trial and error to getting the water to rice ratio right so that the rice is cooked properly. We put in a bit more water than indicated to get it right. If not, then the rice is often burnt on the bottom. I haven't found the problem with the lid overflowing, but we usually only cook small amounts of rice. That is another con, you have to cook 4 cups minimum which means that for the two of us, we are often left with a lot of leftover rice. However, a lot of steam does come out the vent and I usually try to place it near the rangehood so it gets sucked up with that. I like the teflon coated bowl, but after 5 years use, even only with the plastic rice spoon it is starting to get scratched and worn.

I would look for a different rice cooker next time around, but it certainly is better and easier than rice on the stove. easier to cook rice than on stove or in microwave need to play to get the right ratio of water to rice, if not rice then rice is either soggy or burnt on bottom. Minimum 4 cups, which is a lot if there are only two of you

Bad – Not worth the mess. Although it cooks the rice well and I didn't have any problem with burnt rice on the bottom. Cooks the rice well As per the previous reviewer the lid doesn't seal well and the overflow ends up everywhere including the floor. I had to place a tea towel under it.
