Great - IF it works!!! Second one to die in less than 2 years! – As someone else mentioned - they think their Ryobi products are great - EXCEPT for this line trimmer. only been using it for a while when it just stopped dead without any warning. I put it back on the charger, but not a single light came on on the charger. I did everything I could that it says to in trouble shooting - checked terminals for debris/dirt, tried several different powers outlets, checked cord connections. I can't try another battery as this is the only product we have with the 36V battery - everything else is 18V. So this second unit has lasted 8 months - exactly! This is unacceptable really. AT $400 there is clearly an issue with this battery unit! And I was completely dismayed that on returning it to the store last year - there was no facility to just replace the battery and charging unit! They had to send the entire Line Trimmer back and give me an entirely new one. The line trimmer itself still worked!! So I'm wondering how many of these defunct Line trimmers are now in landfill due to inefficient return/repair practices! I really hope that Ryobi have a repair system to sell these off as seconds or the like! Otherwise it is environmental vandalism. I don't want a 3rd $400 Line trimmer just because of a defective battery/charger!
Excellent Product – This was my first purchase from the Ryobi 36V range. Had for over 3 years now. Powerful and great coverage from the supplied 4A battery. Don't have to worry about starting issues as with a petrol engine, no oil mixing issues just charge and off you go! Show details
Don’t buy this piece of junk – I have owned a lot of ryobi products and would recommend most of their tools except for the line trimmer, because the bump head it totally useless and doesn’t work, I reiterate don’t buy unless you want to spend all your time restringing the line. Show details
Total rubbish! Broke down within two years won't charge and gutless – I can't see why people rave over this pile of junk. It is heavy, cumbersome and the angle of the cutting head means you have to weirdly twist it to get it to trim properly. The battery lasts me two trims of our moderately small lawn before it needs recharging. Speaking of which. The battery is dead, or the charger is dead. It died about six months… Read more
ago. I have had this thing for two years and already the charger has broken. This trimmer cost me nearly $400 and it has NOTHING on my old McCulloch petrol whipper snipper that incidentally still runs fine and has far more trimming power at a fraction of the weight. I thought Ryobi were a decent product. Ha! I won't be buying another Ryobi ANYTHING in the future.
Great Product! Works Well – I've owned my Ryobi 36v Brushless Line Trimmer for just over 2 years now. Works well with good battery running time, as long as you use the Ryobi line. I've tried other lines and they jam and break but with the Ryobi line the bump-feed works well. I find the only disadvantage is that the battery is a little bit heavy but can be used on the Ryobi Battery Mower as well. It's very quiet and covers a large area in one charge. Show details
Love It. So much better than petrol – I hurt my shoulder and was struggling to start my old whipper snipper so I decided to go electric. A lot of the reviews about the 18 Volt version suggested that it didn't have enough power, so I went with the 36 volt version. It has been great. speed setting but if you encounter some heavier going then switch it to 'high' speed and it will get through anything.
The line is so easy to load, simply line up the holes and push the cord through and then wind it up - much better than the previous models where I had to pull apart the head. The motor can be connected to any Expand-It head, and I already had an edger and a cultivator head. I've tried both of them with this electric motor and it easily has enough power to drive both.
If there's any downsides to it, that would be the cost and how fast it goes through the battery. A similarly powered petrol motor would be significantly cheaper and when using it on the high speed setting it really eats through the battery.
Overall, easily a 5 star product.

When i bought I thought I can use the brush cutter head or trimmer line blade. But wont fit this model, which is a big disappointment with such value.
