Let down by very weak bump head – The machine itself is quite good, but the bump head is made of soft plastic and is not fit for purpose. Mine lasted about two months. Renders the machine unusable. Contacted Ryobi, asking if there was an alternate head that can be used. Apparently there is not, and customer service were very unhelpful Don't take my word for it, you'll find lots of reviews saying the same thing about the bump head on these machines. Show details
Underwhelming, heavy and awkward – Replaced a cheap, old whipper snipper with this and was expecting to be wowed. It did the job, but I found it quite heavy, bulky and awkward to use. I'm not tall, and not being able to adjust the height is frustrating and looks ridiculous when the whipper snipper is taller than I am. Winner – Recently bought this for my husband, who would like to replace all of our petrol gardening tools with electric options. Didn’t take long to charge for the first use. Was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the line trimmer is. Was easy to set up and appears easy to care for. Get a very good result when using. It’s also light weight. We are happy with this product. Does the job really well, but it needs the extra cover plate – I was up in the air if to buy the 18v or the 36v, so to be sure I had enough power & grunt 36v won & it certainly handles everything I have on my acreage block. The battery lasts a full hour on low which is quite comfortable power - so only need high for any thicker stuff. My only concern is the extra protection cover plate you can order… Read more
separately ($11) should be part of the Pack (I bought the 4ah battery) as it is with the 2ah pack - NOT good Ryobi so for safety rethink your future packs please. In the end the 18v may have done the job at less cost but will not know as didn't want to get caught with not enough power.

replaced the previous model with a new version. This new version doesn't have the extra side guard.
Even on the new version box the guard has been removed, though the screws holes are still present.
The demo model in store which was the old model had the extra guard installed.
Luckily they had 1 old model left so i swapped it over. With the extra guard no problems using it today.
Very poor of Ryobi to remove a required safety feature and hope no one notices. Seems profits out way product quality and safety.

Ryobis best product – This thing has 2 speeds. Really fast, and everything must die! Overgrown 1/4 acre, no issues. Sloping creek bank with 3 foot high grass and blackberries, no issues. I replaced Ryobis petrol whipper snipper with this one and I have zero regrets. Get a good line and this thing is amazing! Show details
poor useability, 6-yr warrantee is a false marketing ploy – I had good experience with Ryobi 36V lawn mower, do decided to get the line trimmer which could share the battery and the charger. to get the string line stuck in the drum. There is a section on how to replace the line, which does not tell you how to remove the existing one in the drum. I wonder how can you replace the line if you can't get the old worn one out. Anyway, a you tube search revealed a video by a user, so good to know others have faced the problem. Pressing the 2 tabs to open the drum cover was a test for my thumb-middle finger grip intensity, so definitely not recommended if you don't have recent workout history with a super gripper or some such contraption.
I almost gave it 3 stars, but decided to register online for the extended 6-year replacement warrantee which apparently comes free, as per loud proclamation on the box. After confirming email address and attaching a pdf scan of teh receipt, I got informed my product was not eligible for the warrantee as per detailed entered ! The only details I entered were my name, email address, date of purchase (18th March 2021, I was online on 3rd April, within the 30-day period). I wonder what special conditions are required for the 6-year warrantee ? Disappointing, hence down to 2 stars.
