Samsung AX90T7080

Samsung AX90 Air Purifier, more than just a puff of overhyped air! HOWEVER, Filters are way overpriced – UPDATED 26 February 2023. Just got these. Wil add to this review after one tests them with an air quality meter! In AUSTRALIA these are labelled as AX7000 in stead of AX90 overseas, don't know why? As a severe asthmatic and using a CPAP machine at night, one needs these and one will certainly be getting some more! Heavy lil' buggers too, each box weighs about 18 kilograms each (pictured). I think it would have been a good idea for Samsung to put WHEELS on these, but one will get these fitted by a professional within a week or so, units are to heavy to pick up and move around all the time!

This is why I'll be getting more, to save moving them around.

The filters are $150 EACH and you get one, YES ONE combined one piece Carbon/hepa filter, so to replace the TWO that are needed for this unit, (top and bottom) will cost you about $300 every 6 months as one will be using all these 24/7. There are places online that sell them for $220 for TWO SETS, so shop around. These filters seem to be a real Samsung "cash cow" given other filters are priced around $50 for the HEAVY carbon filter/Hepa duos used by other brands.

Samsung's carbon filter is quite light given the $150 you pay for them., and this would be stopping many consumers from buying these machines. I will be searching for other brand filters with the HEAVY carbon filters and see if they fit these AX90s, and I will let everyone know, and how to modify them to use on the AX90s because carbon filters are important. Hepa filters are a dime a dozen, and are basically all the same, they all do the same job.

Something that one needs to point out in this review is the comments from another review into this unit on here, and that is, and I quote from HIS review

"If you want it as protection against COVID, be aware that the Samsung AX90T7080 only has MERV 12 filters so probably only 35% of viral particles are removed with each pass through the purifier, instead of 50% with a medical grade (MERV 13) HEPA filter. This is not bad, but should be borne in mind when comparing advertised performances".

The HEAVILY OVERPRICED Samsung AX90 Air Purifier Filter CFX-C100/GB (pic below) dimensions are (WxHxD, mm) 289 x 318 x 58 mm. They ONLY weigh about 800grams. They cost $149.00 EACH and you need TWO every 6 to 12 months! The price is outrageous given similar HIGH QUALITY filters that do the same job retail for between a QUARTER to a THIRD of that price. Even PRICE CUTTER KOGAN is selling these for $149.00 EACH! See pic below of the filters I bought to show you what Samsung wants YOU to pay $1200.00 for! I only paid $956.00 for these at Harris Technology!

Samsung dictates the prices for ALL it's turnover in Australia, this is why I have added the update below as I have found suppliers that WONT play Samsungs game.

(updated 26 Feb 2023) Speaking of PRICE, have just found them on ALI EXPRESS for $58.00 EACH! Go to Ali Express and type into search " Samsung AX90R7080WD AX90R7080WD/EU".

They will take a couple of weeks to arrive but you will save 2 x $90 each filter change! Supplier stated in reply they are selling like hotcakes, and given what Samsung is charging for THE SAME one can see why!

Have contacted the purchasing department of the Victorian Education Department with this information as well to save the TAXPAYER money, given they have thousands of these units in their schools, and this is probably ANOTHER reason Samsung has hiked the price of replacement filters for these too! Quite disgusting when you think of it taking advantage of the COVID situation like that.

Just for clarification, the filters for the Australian model AX90T7080WD, AX90T7080WD/SA also known as the AX7000, and the similar overseas models, AX90R7080WD/EU filters are all the same size! Width = 289mm Height = 318mm and depth = 58mm

To extend filter life, I highly recommend having cut to size DUST FILTER and CARBON FILTER SHEETS IN FRONT OF their "pre filter" as there is heaps of room to do this in front of the washable pre filter given Samsung has not included the "E-Charger" in THESE models, which would normally charge particles before they hit the filters they DO HAVE making them more efficient, probably a cost cutting exercise given their price gouging with their filters. You can buy these Air conditioner dust filter and carbon sheet filters at Bunnings or anywhere really online, as with the thinner carbon and electrostatic filters. They can be washed as well, saving having to cough out TOP DOLLAR for their PRE FILTER (Samsung Air Purifier AX90 Pre-Filter DB63-03777A $68) every couple of years. The ONLY place I have found to carry THESE is woolleys com au.

Another brand PM2.5 Carbon/Hepa combined filters (pic below) weigh 1.0kgs. Have tested the performance of these and they are truly phenomenal given their price! Also, when you shake the filter you can hear the evenly placed carbon particles shaking around inside, and unlike the MEGA PRICED Samsung filters, THEY DON'T SIT AT THE BOTTOM! Will see if I can modify THESE as you can get them online all the time for about $30 EACH! DEVANTI also make a 4 layer HEAVY 1.1kg carbon/hepa filter Model PURI-D-FT-501 (pic below) which are sold everywhere for around $25 - $30 that is close to the size of the Samsung AX90 filters.

Smaller quality filters can have air blockers around them to make them fit, but make sure these filters are not too small to overwork the fan motors.

With so many filters available online, one who wants to save 2x $120 every filter change will soon find one that will fit these AX90 machines.

My boredom has sent me on a bit of a spending spree these last two weeks, and I have a few things to review, so I WILL keep everyone updated on how THESE go.
