Samsung F480 (2009)

Terrible – i looks like a 3/4 scale iPhone. that's probably the best thing about it. My wife bouth one this year on a 2 year deal. She cares so little about phones that she put up with a Motorola RAZR for 3 years. After a few weeks however, she was encouraging me to upgrade my iPhone 3G so that she could have it. Ironically enough, I bought an iPhone 4… Read more
yesterday which turned out to be faulty. As the T-store can't simply replace my decent phone with a new one, I'm stuck with one of these pieces of [censored word removed] for a couple of weeks. Don't buy one. If your granmother buys you one, disown her.
The touch screen is unresponsive, until you press hard, and then it over reacts to scrolling requests.
Scrolling gestures are reversed to iPhone/Android phones and are counter intuitive.
The speaker is awful - hard to make out the other half of a conversation even with full reception.
The internet browser sucks.
The screen is incredibly low resolution and far too small to be of any use.
There's no 3.5 mm headphone socket...
...not that you'd use one, because we can't work out how to play music on it.
It's the worst phone I've ever used.
OK – This is a good phone, I have had it for nearly a year now. Apart from the few cons I have listed, I like this phone and it has proved itself worthy of my decent rating. It wasn't a cheap phone, which means it should have a few more features that would be fun as well as beneficial to the user, but eh, what can you do. It works well, and does what… Read more
it is designed to do. This phone has a stylish look, like an iPhone. I like the size of the screen and how clear it is, and I like the fact that you can drag the widgets on the screen and put them where you want - I use this for the time alot. I like the touch feature, although at times it gets a bit too touchy or not touchy enough which makes me wish that sometimes I could just use buttons to type a message. I often press the wrong button and clear the whole message which is frustrating as I have to retype it out and waste more time. Sometimes when the phone is locked and I try to unlock it by pressing the button at the top of the phone, it doesn't unlock and it takes a few good presses before it unlocks. That or I have to wait for the screen light to dim and then try it. It's a bit weird like that. I don't like the fact that I can't change my screensaver pictures to what I would like them to be. It's a bit boring watching palm trees and beach settings. This phone can easily be chipped if dropped, so you are best to invest in a protective covering of some sort.
Great phone....in 2009 – Had the F480 for 3 years, great little touch-phone. The pressure sensitive touch screen was good in its day but is very outdated by todays standards e.g. a small lag was always present between touch and response, you can't touch 2 places simultaneously, in a few occations touch would not register. Typing sms could be annoying at first and takes a… Read more
little bit of time to get the hang of. It had all the functions like MP3 player, FM radio, 5mega pixel camera. The camera took above average photos but the extremely slow shutter speed (around 1.5-2 secs) really lets it down.
On the plus side Samsung really knows how to make well built phones. I really liked the design and small size, the battery life was good (alest 3-4 days between charges with average calls and use of MP3 player) and call quality was good. Great build, battery life, robust features, great phone... ....if you go back 3 years, touch screen not the best, camera
Not the best phone – This phone is very easy to use, is small and compact but still has a big enough screen. It worked great for the first 10-12 months, but now is having some problems. The screen frequently freezes, the touch screen is very temperamental and often does not do what you want it to or freezes, the camera takes terrible photos despite being 5 mega… Read more
pixels. The battery also runs out very quickly. it also has a habit of turning itself off for no reason.
However it was very cheap, and accessories (screen protectors, cases, car chargers) were very cheap to buy and have helped the phone to last a bit longer.
I can't wait to upgrade to something a bit more reliable though! Cheap, easy to use, large screen, Broke within a year, freezes easily, frequently shuts down
Not the greatest phone – Great size for putting in your pocket but txting is a real pain as it doesn't have a proper keyboard just the multi keys. Annoying as well if you are trying to use an auto phone service where you have to select number options as you go as the keypad doesn't stay active long enough and you have to keep holding in the unlock button while trying to… Read more
hear the phone call. small and compact but still a big screen hard to use it like a phone for calls and txt
Worst Phone I Have Owned – This touch screen is the worst I have owned. It constantly freezes, does not respond to touch all of the time, takes forever to turn on, randomly decides which memory it will hold, etc sometimes I have no access to my phonebook. I was willing to give this phone the benefit of the doubt, perhaps mine was faulty? Nope, all three of the people I… Read more
know that own one have exactly the same problems.
The charge the battery holds is also disal, one phone call and you're recharging again, and you need to recharge them at least once, if not twice a day(if you have had a phone call that day) inexpensive, chic battery life, freezes, temperamental memory, temperamental touch screen
I loved my samsung until the screen started to leak! :( – I had this phone for almost a year and loved the design and size as it was a perfect fit for your pocket and holding it in your hand. It was able to take great photos with the built in camera and had ample storage for all your photos, videos and music. Unlike the newer types of phones, you could bluetooth ringtones and transfer your music from… Read more
your computer to the phone and use your music for your ringtone. Every person in my phone had their own set ringtone (my music) and their own picture making your phone completely personalised. I loved the size and shape of the phone After about a year, my screen started to leak and it became hard to hear people talking.
Terrible – Was not given correct info both from JB Hi Fi and then Samsung who told me to contact the other for my requested refund, in the end not wanting to resolve the problem, both companies blamed the other,I was stuck with a product that did not suit my needs.Samsung said they were working on Windows 7 compatablity but never did, so now I have an… Read more
expensive phone and alarm clock.Samsung's attitude was ,you have a mobile phone, other features you might have bought the product for, tough! Yes Stylish and a good camera if you could connect to PC.I use it only to make calls ,the wake up alarm is easy to use and is a great feature.large display easy to read Sending texts is a chore, tiny texting display is a hit and miss afair.Incompatable with Windows operating system means you cannot use the features such as the camera and store your phone book on a PC
Good – It's an excelent phone for media uses such as mp3 playback, video playback, picture taking, rapid internet, and FM radio. However ones who desire better functions with shooting videos in high resolution should seek in an actual video camera. A fantastic product, it performs as good as it looks. My phone is the f480, so I am basing on this review… Read more
on it only, not its later twin f480i. Its looks and functions are appealing. I.e its 5mp camera with flash and auotfocus (you can actually see the lens going up and down when autofocus is working), excelent touchscreen which is very responsive, good battery life, loud speaker, fast internet speed and its size (about the size of a credit card and only 1cm thick, the phone is quite fast too. And it's made in Korea(f480 with Samsung logo above screen), but the younger f480i(Samsung logo below screen) is made in China with a newer touchwizz interface, the extra function of two skins(orange and green with three mobile) rather than the black from the f480 as well as the 'smile detection' for the camera. But other than that they are identical products. Its low res video recording.
Bad – Over all it is an okay phone if you are going to buy this for your teenager. The camera i find take nice clear phones but the video is pretty horrible. The phone likes to do its own thing every now and again which is annoying. I wouldn't recommend getting this phone on a plan at all because it is not worth it. Its only good for pre-paid. The… Read more
internet speed is very slow also. The price for the phone is the only benefit and the camera It freezers alot. The screen picks up and little movement you do. The button to put to safe lock on is really hard to push in.
Bad – I wish I didn't get this Phone on a 2-year plan. Now I'm stuck with it unless I pay it out. That sucks. I wish I went for better quality phone, even though the Samsung wasn't cheap. Looks good Very hard to hear at times because the in-call speaker is also the ring-tone speaker. Freezes at times, very annoying. Very difficult to use for those… Read more
automated answering machines when you have to key-in the number you want. You can't password lock the dialing part of the phone, but you can lock every other feature. What use is that?
Terrible – Never had a worst phone like this. Dont buy this phone. I bet you will regret this. All the features are awful! Nothing what so ever!!! Everything ab it!
Good – Like it, but unsure if I would by it again if I had the option. It is so easy to navigate through the settings though that my Mother-in-Law has now got one. Nice and compact. Looks good. easy to use (after a couple of days). Plenty of storage with memory card. Great camera. Version from my network carrier has multiple menu screens for easy access… Read more
to everything. Good as music player. Can't be unlocked easily by children. Customizable in many ways. Freezes & becomes unresponsive. Turns off & back on when signal drops out (often). Touch screen can be a bit sensitive at times.

OK – This phone takes some getting used to, especially at the start. It can often get frustrating when the phone does not respond how you expect it to. Over time though it seems to get more tolerable. For some reason the phone sometimes freezes randomly and you have to wait up to 10 seconds for it to come back to life. One really disappointing aspect… Read more
is that the total sms storage is about 160 messages even though it claims to allow 500.
On the plus side, the phone looks great, plays music and videos with ease and provides all the functions a person could want in a phone, at an affordable price. This is an early Samsung smart phone and I think future Samsung models will be significantly more reliable and user friendly with better overall performance. Typical functions of a smart phone at a more affordable price.
Plenty of storage space as well as expandable memory.
Decent sound and video output.
Camera has flash. Phone is occasionally unresponsive.
When typing messages sometimes I go to press a button but it gets registered as if i pressed a button on the opposite side of the screen.
Good – Great little phone, it has a sleek look and is quite easy to use. The picture quality of the camera isn't that great but then again I didn't buy the phone for the camera. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a small touch screen phone and who is not too fussed about the camera feature. Great design, easy to use and light in weight.… Read more
Sensitive touch but am used to it now. I find it difficult to scroll through a text as it skips to the previous message, picture quality of camera could be better.
Bad – Really would NOT recommend this phone to anyone who is really busy or has a short temper. This phone was not good for my blood pressure!!! I stupidly signed up on a 2 year contract with optus. I hate this phone so much that I stopped using it and went back to using my old motorola raz. Looks Good. Spilt coffee all though it and it still works.… Read more
Screen 'locks' up. I found this phone impossible to use when in a hurry and forget trying to use it with 1 hand, it is definately a 2 hand operation. Not an easy phone to just 'follow your nose' through. Needed to use instructions to figure out the basics. Not user friendly.
Bad – not a phone i would recommend given the sensitivity of the touch screen.overtime i have gotten used to the phone, however i do wish i had spoken to others before entering contract..plus is contract taken is for one year so i will survive using it compact, light weight, large screen, easy to use camera. buttons are touchy, find it difficult to type… Read more
letters without touching letter next to it. very touchy. when message received continues to ring and let me know message is there until i acknowledge it, can be difficult to navigate around the functions and differing screens. find the drag features not as easy to use as explained and shown..
Bad – A bit of a waste of money I think - but I can't afford anything at the moment so I guess I'm stuck with this phone for a while until I can afford an iphone or a phone that's easy to use. Looks all right and unlike others it hasn't frozen on me yet. Touch screen is either too sensitive or nor sensitive enough - especially with a guys fingers you… Read more
keep making mistakes when making a message. Can't put games on it unless you pay a mint and the 5MP camera isn't as good as you would expect - most photos still come out blurry and the sound quality is awful.
Terrible – Besides looking pretty, this phone is absolute rubbish. Samsung had the opportunity and capability to make this a great phone but they left sooo many things out and tried to depend on its looks to sell. Well guess it worked for me, but I would recommend AGAINST buying this unless you just want a pretty phone. For an $800 phone, I would certainly… Read more
look elsewhere! I bought a pink Tocco so its very pretty, thats about it. No Wi-Fi, GPS or accelerometer, you get a 3.5mm adapter instead of on-phone socket; Interface lags during transitions; Not a smart phone (you can't install extra applications); The phone does not allow you to use your own images in the screensaver option; You can't change the calendar appointment alert the default alert is this horribly loud ringtone when you just need a "beep" to remind you of an appointment; Scrolling doesn't work smoothly in certain parts of the phone; Calendar appointments are truncated to 12 characters so when sync'ing your Outlook appointments to the phone, you only get the first 12 characters of the subject of your appointment which is absolutely ridiculous! Terrible camera shutter lag - by the time the phone takes the photo, your moment has passed by about 10 seconds!
Good – I got this phone as it looked awesome and my plan had expired. DIdn't cost me anything to upgrade. Not sure I would pay heaps of money for it as I am used to flip phones that protect the screen more. it looks so awesome. love the touch feature and how the camera you hold it like a real camera and click the button like a real camera. It takes a… Read more
while to get used to the touch feature. Pretty sensitive. Should come with some games already loaded - what on earth is the dice game?? Only comes with 3.2mp camera so would be good to get another one.
Terrible – I hate this thing with a passion, and I am not some sort of "mobile phone connoisseur", just wanted an easy to use more modern phone than I had, and was recommended this phone by salesperson (girl),...she had one, excellent she blabbered...what utter garbage, just like the phone!! Like I said I cannot understand how some people have given it a 5… Read more
star rating. Its definitely a girls phone and a BAD one at that. Dont buy it. !!! Nothing, its pathetic, and I cant understand how it has gotten 5 star reviews, Dont buy it!!
I suppose you could say it is fairly tough though as I bounced mine off the wall in frustration, put it back together and it worked. I'm not joking. You name it, too sensitive, cant see screen in daylight, hope that your subject doesn't move after you have pushed the shutter button on camera as there is a big delay. Cant type a txt without making mistakes, with normal man sized fingers, to sensitive and you have to be 100% accurate, might suit a girls hand.
Definitely NOT a mans phone, and I certainly "REGRET" buying it.
Excellent – Purchased this phone as I had heard so much good stuff about it and was also very impressed with the quality of my only other Samsung phone. Looks good and performs well and really can't fault it. Was previously a Nokia person but this phone and samsung have won me over. Do yourself or someone you love a favour by getting it. At $300 as a prepaid… Read more
by Telstra and Optus it is a bargain! Great looks and build quality. So simple to use for any age (I'm in my mid 40's). The original Samsung cover compliments the phone big time. The phone does everything it's supposed to do. Lack of detailed instruction booklet. The one in the pack does not cover everything!

Excellent – great phone to use with easy features, wouldnt go back to a nokia again, the camara has features not many digital camara's have. battery life is really great as well last 4 days with use. internet is user friendly. great screen, great camara with lots of features, great features, nice slim design, internet is easy. lack of cases, touch is really sinsitive
Excellent – Really great phone for anyone wanting that touch ability but not wanting to spend the extra money to get the iphone. Touch ability of heat only (use your finger not your nail or a stylis) is great. This means the phone does not turn on accidentally and you dont have to worry about it going flat on its own. Good range of ring tones and alerts… Read more

Music is very clear when played through the speakers or through the headphones. Graphics are ok but once you work out how to download directly off your computer at home, it makes putting pictures, music and files onto it so much better.
Good memory intake as well. Still havent had to delete any files to get more on. Really easy phone to use. Fits into your pocket no matter how small. Screen is easy to read and menues are easy to follow Lack of cases and covers. Camera takes a bit of getting used to cause the photos are not instant. Sometimes it can be over sensitive to touch when you try to use it and touch as well. Bluetooths dont always recognise the phone straight away and you have to use the speaker function in the car.
Good – The Samsung F480 is a very Cool, awesome stylish phone that would suit anyone. All though some of the thing on the phone can be pretty annouying its cool, awesome and stylish like i aid before. The Samsung F480 is a very cute and stylish phone.Which is one thing i love about it. It would suit either a male or female and has a very good camera. I also… Read more
like the widget bar with all the little icons, to me they're very cute and it cool how you can drag them onto the screen. It also has a very good speaker I dont like the memory space on the phone. For me it runs out to fast, even though i have a memory card. I also dislike that you have to have a certain type of song a Mp3 type to put it as your message tone
Terrible – I cannot think of one good thing item for this phone. The keypad is unresponsive. It is extremely difficult to use while you are on the phone. If you are say deleting messages and put the phone to your ear, it will randomly delete/save/hangup depending on what part of your ear gets anywhere near the keypad (maybe I should try texting with my ear… Read more
as the keypad is unresponsive to my fingers). The edges of the phone are more sensitive that the middle. It is far far far far far to easy to change the language. It is impossible to move around a message. The scrolling has two speeds, stopped or fast, therefore finding anything is difficult. Still waiting for the camera. My phone regularly drops out. About 1/10 calls get cut off before you start. still waiting on the camera .... I have one going cheap, although I dont think I would want to wish it on anyone ..... still waiting on the camera. mmm. If you are multilingual. This is the phone for you, as you can change the language in texts with two easy touches of a button. For the rest of us that dont need this feature IT IS IMPOSSIBLY ANOYING. As the button for delete is next to the change language one. Everything. responsiveness of the touch pad. Camera lag (still waiting still waiting still waiting). Phone regulary drops out.
Bad – I love the look of this phone is looks flash, but using it is hard work. Even just trying 2 get into phone book and messages is hard work. Once u get udes to it it gets better but overall juts a pain in the Bum. not practical! it looks really flash and comes in 3 great colours. the gold looks great.comes with a nice cover to protect the screen… Read more
which matches the phone colour. The camera has really high quality aswell. this is good for quick snaps. Nearly everything else. The touch screen in hard to use. the phone and camera both have delays. things are hard to get into. typing messages takes a while to get used to and dont even try using phone banking with this phone. it's nearly impossible!
Good – Unlike other respondents I love my F480! I got talked into it about 10 months ago and have never turned back. The camera does have a bit of a delay to it but once you get the hang of it there isnt an issue. Gettign used to the touch screen is interesting but again once you master it there are no problems. I have a fold over screen cover that… Read more
protects the screen from scratches. I love that it is lockable as I have found many phones dont do this anymore. I used to say I would only ever buy a Nokia but have fallen in love with this phone and would replace it with the same in a heartbeat! Looks good, easy to use Slow camera uptake
Terrible – I needed a phone for work and I let the salesman at 3 talk me into this junk. If you are a yuppie and you want to look good then buy it, but if you need a phone for business then this is definitely not it. Looks nice. Very long winded, not a user friendly phone. The camera lag will drive you cazy.
