Save on Samsung A54 – Great cheaper phone but be careful with Google services as there are a lot of ads when you sign up. Camera has great pics and switching from full view of apps and restricted apps - to save battery - is quick and easy. Even turning off to save power is easy. I was considering an iPhone (as I have a mini Mac and MacBook pro) but was $500 more expensive. Easy to transfer contacts and apps from my old Samsung S6. Show details ·  1

not a real Dual Sim Phone – It is good phone. But Dual Sim is a misleading. Samsung A54 5G Australian version only has a single SIM card slot. The second slot in the back of SIM tray is only labelled for a microSD card, which means that it is not physically designed to fit the second SIM card. Therefore, I am not be able to use a second SIM card in A54 5G as I thought.

Same as the big phones just less storage – I haven’t had an issue since with this phone. I have an iPhone and honestly got sick of everyone calling or messaging me so I got a Samsung on the side just so my friend knows the number and that’s it. It honestly is at the performance of the 1k or 2k plus phones it’s just got less storage and the processor isn’t as high but who cares my iPhone… Read more ·  1

which is a fairly new one has 3000 mah but this battery life is 5000 mah. The screen and calls are clear too. The camera quality is so much better than the expensive phones and so forth. Plus they come in cute colours. It’s affordable and a great phone. Huge display too for my games. You don’t have to pay thousands for a phone I done that with my iPhone and personally I love this phone better. If less storage and a little bit of less performance is going to save you 2 grand why not buy it?

Snazzy easy to use – This phone has been so easy to setup & use. Featuring a large crystal screen, fast operation - basic phone, though, it's the apps that make the magic happen! There are many features, but as an amatuer techno, my favourite feature is the quality camera, allowing me to capture special moments just by waving my hand or saying a phrase. Being… Read more ·  1

Samsung, you also have access to Samsung health, which I find very interesting tracking myself by day (action mode) and sleep mode. Interestingly, my hubby bought one as well, and his screen display is not as bright .. not sure why. Would recommend as a value for money phone - watach out for the many deals to be had.

Good middle option – For half the price of of my previous Samsung S range I am very happy with what I got for my money. After using the other one I can notice it is a little slower and the camera isn't as good but other then that I wouldn't know any different. It's a good mid level phone and happy with what I got for what I paid. Show details ·  1

Great buy for the price – So glad I went with this rather than the s series. For a much smaller price tag it does basically the same functioning. The has a great battery life so can easily get through a whole day or without worrying about my phone dying. Show details ·  1

Great base phone, price for value is perfect – For the price tag you still get a flagship phone that can do all the normal work, play games, take photos, multiple tabs open at once. Unless your a face is in yoir phone all day the battery will last an entire day with moderate use. Show details ·  1

No longer working after 3 months – Phone was OK at first. Battery was a little disappointing and was only on par with my 3 year old A51 even with unnecessary settings turned off or scaled back. After 3 months the phone stopped recognising the SIM. After trying all of the suggested trouble shooting through Samsung I had to book it for repair. Was given option of taking the phone to… Read more

a Harvey Norman store or a Samsung store. Was told that the Samsung store would have a tech onsite and wouldn't require the phone to be shipped elsewhere. None of this was true. Was told it would take 3-5 days for repair. The phone was shipped off to a repairer with parts then having to be ordered. At no time did I received any correspondence from Samsung. Any time I attempted contact I was just told that a case manager or representative would contact me which never happened. I received the phone 2 weeks later and then after restoring all of my data the fingerprint sensor would not work and Samsung then wanted me return the device AGAIN to a service centre for repair. Online support was not helpful at all and only offered insincere apologies and a 10% discount voucher to be used within 30 days when pressed about the financial cost that this had resulted in. Absolutely appalling service.

Terrbile battery life – I purchased this phone and initally I liked it, However the battery life is very dissapointing. Left overnight on a full charge of 100%, only to wake up 6 hours later showing 70% charge. Wifi and data were swicthed off. I would like to return it and request a refund, however Samsung will advise to take it to a dealer for repairs. Such a waste of time. This will be the last Samsung phone I ever buy. Show details

Compromising on a new A54 has consequences – Just got a new A54 choosing it because it had all features I needed except for wireless charging which I could put up with. But when I got it there have been issues: 1. slow screen moving, sluggish to scroll through and change windows 2. slow responsiveness to close windows 3. group text limit of 20 recipients Some of the slowness was fixed by… Read more

following an online video advice to turn off 120Hz, a key advertised feature. I don't know why this is so slow??? My pixel pro 6 responds immediately. I check my old S9+, it had half the benchmark but is still immediately responsive, this seems more like a software problem than a device limitation. It is so slow, WHY??? 3. Samsung has chosen to limit SMS group send to 20 people. This means I have to keep using my Google Pixel which does not have a limit.

After a few days thinking I have called up for a refund. If I was in the US that would be it. Reset the phone send it back and get a refund. Here in Australia Samsung only do that if you have not opened the box! After more than 40 minutes on the phone I get told to make a booking at the repair centre. So painful, so much wasted time, I will not buy a phone from Samsung online again.

Very Good Upper Mid-Ranger – I wanted to write this as my take is often different to the reviews I have seen for this. I will focus on key points i bought it for. Build Quality The back and sides are substantial in size, but feel 70% of the quality of a flagship. Like stepping out of an Audi and into a Kia Rio. Nothing bad, but go tapping around its cheaper materials. All… Read more ·  1

my phones get a substantial case, so I doubt I will ever care. No wobbles or anything like that.

Versus my S10 it is noticeable thicker.

Finger Print Sensor

I find this all I need. No problems with speed or it missing a beat.

Screen

Warmer and punchier than my S10 (flagship on release). Nothing in a good way versus the S10, but it's close and for day to day YT content it's easily more than fine. Even more notable film streaming services are OK, and need to catch some live football it looks as good as any would care about in my short experience with it.

Nonetheless, the screen does crush dark scenes. Nothing awful but shades of very dark melt together versus high end.

You can change things in vivid mode or just select (default factory) natural. Vivid mode allows colur adjustments but only so much change is to be had from the start point though set.

Camera

Still images taken with the A54 and viewed on its screen look good. Highlights will blow out a tad versus high end, but I doubt most will notice unless pointed out or it's a real difficult backlight scenario.

Scanning documents is OK. A bit more care needed with focus checking than my just grabs it S10, but gets the job done.

Videos get all the image stability in 1080p only. It's a very good 1080p though. Even on a 55inch TV set enough "ink" is used to allow 1080p to hold up.

I have only really looked at the main cameras. The wide I am sure will be fine for the odd memory capturing time and families won't care about any non huge changes it brings in quality in that scenario. No optical zoom but I, like many I know, tend to just want a phone for great auto snaps. People wanting a phone to do more than have a very good main camera need to really think here.

Lastly I think the pictures look even better on better screens. This is an area most reviews ignore.

The takeaway for me: Competent main camera best suited to lower contrast/reasonably well lit situations where ultra rapid focus is not vital. Lower light it holds up well but very low light cost savings show. Videography is very acceptable and easy at 1080p, but go walking with 4K on and a gimbals becomes very necessary. Focus is not as rapid always as flagships but seems to work for most family type situations.

Away from the primary camera the ultra wide is very reasonable, the macro is a bit of a space filler and the selfie v ok for not much worse than shopping mall light.

Sound/Voice

Fine to excellent I would say. A strong point of the phone, maybe helped by its larger size. Certainly plenty for chat type TV/radio and I would use a BT speaker for music anyway. Watching a football game on it a couple of us were blown away with the fullness of the commentary sound. Phone calls are also fine as are video calls.

Gaming

Sorry no clue. I don't game on it.

Connections

5G I get near 300Mbps at home and often more. Crazy these days. BT is rock solid as is WiFi. EDIT: I have seen near 900Mbps per pic 2. Whatever real world max is this phone is very 5G capable, FWIW. 5G coverage is obviously carrier dependent as are other standards, but the phone is not the thing holding it back.

*EDIT: More real world testing 5G can really drop strength away from main cell tower. Even in exact places I get 200Mbps one day and 30 ish or less the next, and upload becomes woeful at 3Mbps when this happens.

Battery

Brand new. Works as advertised thus far.

Apps

Load fine and work fine.

All in all a very solid upper midrange choice. But there ARE layers of flagship cream performance missing, even versus an ageing S10. Of course those flagship alterantives cost way more.

*Maybe the 5G should just switch to 4G if 5G drops below what 4G can do? IF that is what's going on? In fairness this has not impacted my experience actually using it, BUT it could.

All only based on my usage case.
