Samsung has recalled the SW65V9WIP, SW70SPWIP and SW80SPWIP. For more information please go to http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1047306.
OK Washing machine – The Samsung washing machine was recalled for being faulty and starting fires. This aside, the washing machine is ok. Without the middle cyclinder the washing machine knots the clothes up and tangles them when you try to remove them. Also think it may stretch the sleeves of jumpers because of this. Otherwise the wash cycle isn't too bad. Show details
Really good – I've had this washing machine for about 5 years and it still works well. It has always washed and rinsed well. With the diamond drum, its extra strong. Its not super quiet but I tend to put big loads on. I like how it plays the music at the end of the cycle. Show details
Buy European, Maytag or Fisher and Paykel, Do not buy Samsung – We have the same issues, black flakey that floats to the surface, Ive read other reviews and apparently its a build up of fabric softer and detergent, two bad combinations. This machine is useless, it only spins about 650 RPMs which is a pathetic spin speed (our fisher and paykel top loader could spin 1200 RPM), i dislike the child lock feature… Read more
during the wash cycle - its good to be able to see how your clothes are being washed/agitated - in this case poorly washed... the plastic body parts at the top end of the machine have turned completely yellow and ive only had the machine for 3 years.. If your looking for a new washing machine do not purchase a Samsung (cheap) I guess this is what I get for purchasing such a cheap rubbish washing machine!!!! If your looking for a good top loader go Maytag or Fisher and Paykel, if your buying a Front loader please consider a European model, Front Loaders were revolutionized by the Eurpoeans!!!!! Pay a couple hundred dollars more for a European model, please dont buy a Samsung or any other Asian made appliance. If you buy Fisher and Paykel make sure it was model made in New Zealand!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions of how to remove the flakey from these pathetic machines? Very disappointed with Samsung, your being too greedy trying to market and produce too many different products, as a result all you do is make cheap too many products and end up producing crap! Perhaps you should just stick to producing Mobile phones!!!! This experience has reinforced my distaste and hatred even further for your brand!!!!

I'm in love with my washing machine! – It sings a cute song when it's finished, it washes my clothes really clean, it has a soak function (very handy) so no more bucket soaking, actually does take 8kg of washing and washes the whole 8kg as clean as if a small load was done, fuzzy logic takes the guess work out of 'estimating' the size of the load so appropriate water is used not too… Read more
much or too little. Everything in my house that can possibly fit in there, has been washed. Have done blankets, king-size sheet and doona covers, the summer cotton doona, also dog beds and bathmats - all come out sparkly. No agitator so more fits in and its gentler on clothes. Love the lint filter that catches the lint so it doesn't stick to my new clothes instead making them look newer longer - instead of that well worn fluffy look after only a few washes.
How can I not be happy with all of the above! Its changed my life - now I actually want to do the washing - its the pegging out and folding (and ironing) now that I dread!!!
I wonder if there's enough dirty washing in the basket for a load today.
Edit: This machine is part of the Samsung recall. I have since traded it in on a brand new panasonic. If you have a Samsung, checkout the recall notice and get rid of it asap! delivers everything it says it does with quality
I love my new washing machine – I purchased a Samsung SW80SPWIP washing machine about 6 weeks ago. It it a top loader and I had a 5kg front loader previously for 13 yrs. I prefer the top loader to the front loader. My Samsung does a great wash. Doesnt tangle and the clothes come out really clean and well spun. The little tune at the end of the wash is cute. variety of functions are amazing.
I now do less than half the amount of loads with this machine as it is a 8kg and my front loader was only 5kg so water usuage is about the same overall.
The only problem I have is that when I use softner it doesnt perform as well as the front loader and reason would probably be that with the new top loader it has more rinses with more water so it dilutes.
I also use a soft absorbent cloth to wipe out the drum and leave the lid up for airing and to stop any mould
** This is an update:. 18 months later. I did incur the black mould and it did eventually go away. I presume that it is a build up of fabric softener. It hasnt happened since in the last 12 months. I always do a TUB CLEAN which is on the machine display every few weeks. My clothes have tangled also which is probably when I just throw them in without laying them down properly. Apart from that I am happy with the machine. reliable and inexpensive water softner was diluted more and towels not as soft
No Problems – We bought this machine about 12 months ago and never had an issue with it. No idea what the black stuff is that others are talking about. My machine gets a lot of use, several loads per day, every day of the week, and this never missed a beat. I did make a point of leaving the lid open when it wasn't in use, believing this might avoid the black… Read more
stuff (mould?) I had heard about, so not sure if that had anything to do with it. My only issues were that is was a bit too lightweight and plasticky for my liking, I do prefer a more robust machine. I also didn't like the bleach/fabric softener dispenser because I could not measure the amounts I used. It just seemed to keep swallowing the stuff! I was also a little annoyed when told by the sales staff that it washed just like a front loader because it doesn't have an agitator. That's not true! A front loader has a completely different washing action, uses a lot less water and does a better job than any other machine. The next machine I purchase will be a frontloader. This model was the one recalled by Samsung (I only recently discovered the recall by pure accident so called them). The service people were very helpful. Even though I had no real issues with the machine, they replaced it with a newer and bigger model. It was only delivered 24 hours ago, so I have only done a few washes, but so far, so good. Very reliable. Great service from Samsung. A bit too lightweight. Cannot measure the amount of bleach/softner being used.

Absolute rubbish – I have 1 of these terrible machines. I can't understand how it ever got a 4 star water rating. If it can't get the momentum to spin, it fills up with water again. What a waste. It tangles clothes badly. Just last week I washed my queen size sheets & the flat sheet & pillow cases ended up in a big lump inside the fitted sheet. Would never buy another Samsung
Worst Machine Ever! – Two main issues with this machine are the black flaky stuff that sticks to the clothes and the fact that everything comes out in one lump! An 8kg machine takes a lot of clothes when they get so tangled up together that they all come out in one lump, it is a problem. I have to bag all delicates, shoe string strap type tops, and anything that is… Read more
likely to be damaged by the rough treatment in the machine. I chose the machine for the size and delay start- great features, but not worth the stress of the other issues. Sales guys were useless ( probably have never used a washing machine themselves).
Am going to ask Samsung for a refund.
flaky substances started appearing after a year of use – Apparently we are not alone, never had this type of issue with other washers we've had. At first I thought someone in the family left something in their pocket, but the flaky stuff never went away after running clean cycles. Piece of junk!
The black flakes you see is lint and debris from the filter to your clothes – If you don't clean the filters after every wash, lint from your clothes build up and seep through the net in the filter to your clothes. You will find the filters at the sides of the top loader machines (inside the machine where you put your clothes to wash) and at the bottom front panel of the front loader machines. My family members and I have… Read more
used the top loader samsung machines for years. It's the only brand we each possess and I can assure you, once you locate the filters and clean them after each wash, you will swear by the machine! And the filters are the easiest to clean. Just take them off and run them under the tap.
Washing machine worth to buy – I've own this machine now (8kg model) for over 2 years and so far so good. It does what it promises. The lint filter works well. I mostly use the auto function (sensor) and it seems to get the job done. With man features: Mist Shower - Diamond drum - Magic Filter - Memory - Child lock - Quick Wash - Delicates/Hand Wash - Delay Start.
Black Flakes, Lint Left on Washing, Out of Balance – Worst washing machine ever!!!!. First problem is that the machine gets out of balance then reverts to previous cycle which then uses more water and power. A service technician suggested that I balance out the washing (e.g two towels, two sheets, no odd numbers, how ridiculous is this!!!) Lint gets stuck on the washing and is not easy to get… Read more
off. The worst problem is the black flakes. I have used the suggestions of the technicians, hot water washes, white vinegar, epsom salts, scalex to no avail. They will send out technicians, but if they find nothing wrong you are than charged which was the case with me. I bought the machine in 2013. Would never buy another Samsung and would not recommend this machine.
Black Flakes in Washing – We had the black flake problem in our washing and tried everything to fix it with no success. We disposed of a relatively new machine at the local tip and went back to Simpson. Since then I have been told that it is actually the inlet water hoses which cause the problem. Apparently if you take the hoses off and soak them overnight in a strong… Read more

Black flakes again – Yep just one more consumer to add to the black flake issue with Samsung machines, tried all the advice found on the internet to fix or reduce the amount of black flakes in the washing, nothing has worked so it's time to go spend more money on a new machine, of course it will not be a Samsung!!!!!! Samsung response has been so poor I will never buy another Samsung product again.
Worst machine ever! – I have the same problem with the black flakes..most irritating when you expect to get a clean wash! Tangles all the clothes terribly. Would never purchase a Samsung again. Nowhere in the manuals are we told that this would happen to our wash.
If it is because of the fabric softener then why have a dispenser for it!
Disappointing – After the first recall and computer panel swap, this machine lasted 2 more years then the new computer panel died. :( Its a shame because I really did love this washing machine. It had easy to use wash cycles and was a sturdy, strong, quiet machine. I took out the extra 3 years warranty, thank goodness. But no point waiting for replacement parts… Read more

Black substance coming from washing machine bowl – I, like hundreds of other purchasers, am encountering the black paper like lint coming from the washer and sticking all over the wash. time which does eventually clean it away but unless you run a CLR wash each week (at $13.00 or so a bottle + cost of boiling water) it returns within a fortnight. I use half the recommended amount of powder and NO conditioner. I think Samsung need to step up and accept responsibility for this problem. As this experience has tainted my opinion of Samsung I could not recommend any Samsung washer to friends or relatives. A word to Samsung...every customer who is dissatisfied with a product tells at least 20 of their friends of their dissatisfaction. Washers works and washes fine. Leave black paper like substance all over washing.
Worst one we have ever had – Black stuff appearing in washing machine & on cloths after the first few months of use. and less, do not use fabric softener, varied everything we do yet same issue. Leaving it a few days only makes it worse.
We have never had any issues like this before with any washing machine, no one else we know other than Samsung owners has this issue, yet Samsung thinks it's not an issue.
A quick search of the internet, it turns out we are not alone.
A quick call around the country with fellow workers, turns out that everyone where I work, yes nationally, that has a Samsung has the exact same issue we do with the Black stuff.
Samsungs support answer was to put a CLR type stuff through it now and again and run the bowl clean function more often, really? So we have to spend money on another cleaning product as well as waste even more water to clean something that Samsung thinks is not an issue, not likely as I think this is a manufacturing / design flaw.
The black stuff builds up on a plastic bowl that surrounds the stainless steel bowl, it does not get cleaned well enough during a normal wash cycle, the answer Samsung thought would fix it was to put a bowl option on the user panel and make this one a consumer issue.
Do not buy a Samsung washing machine, unless you want this horrible black stuff appearing in your washing.
Lack of support from Samsung & black stuff it build up over time.
not very good – yes it washers like it should but the magic filter after about 20 washers doesn't clean up good anymore and doesn't click in the slot anymore i have had to buy 4 filters since i bought it at the beginning of 2013 so i think need to make better filters and yes this is the one that was recalled but that didn't effect this review cheap to run, water saving filters, bad call centre

Recent recall on the machine hasn't dampened my ownership experience. Samsung came and checked it, then made some safety modifications and it's been business as usual.
Re: Recall - apparently some machines experienced water/moisture to get into a compartment under the top plastic cowling of the machine where some electrical wiring are plugged-in/connected. When these plastic (electric) plugs get wet, they overheat and causes them (plugs) to melt. The safety recall put a waterproof and fireproof pouch around the electrical plugs that could get wet.
On my machine, there was no sign of any water/moisture getting into the said area. But they did the modification all the same just to be safe. Price, Performance, Quality, User Friendly Energy Rating is rated low
good washing machine – I bought this machine 6 months ago now and so far so good ! I like the fact that it has 4 stars water rating. It cleans our clothes fine. Good first impressions, but going backwards fast – I really liked my samsung 8kg washing machine at first, but (ignoring the product recall here) I started noticing problems ... yes I check and double check that I haven't just left it open.
I also have noticed that on a full load the fuzzy logic leaves some of my clothes completely out of the water for most of the wash and so they don't get washed ( I wouldn't have noticed this except I've got paranoid about repeating washes so now check after 10 minutes).
I don't want a super duper washing machine, I just want one that works ... This one was cheap, but it wasn't good value and I wouldn't buy one again. Cheap, big load Detergent tray keeps coming loose, poor wash
Samsung not interested in follow up service – This machine produces and encourages the growth of black mould everywhere in the tub. This will start coming out into your wash after 12mths -18mths of use and it is extremely difficult to get rid of. Samsung are not interested in helping to clean this out of the machine. who had one. In the new machine, the diamond drum seems to tangle the clothes more, but having said that, I think it washes better and I do like the two rinses. Great washing performance, amazing just what you can fit in it without an agitator taking up all the room. Love the smooth internal finish on the lid. The old model was metal and rusted out with the water and powders. My son, was in the market, I recommended it to him, he bought the 8kg model, he finds the delay start option great. Samsung have really upped the ante with their white goods. I definitely recommend their white good products, I have a side by side fridge of theirs as well. easy to operate, value for money, dual rinse and delay start option does tend to tangle clothes, but then I have to wash a lot of long sleeved shirts ;0)
Poor quality – We bought this machine and had nothing but problems came up with every single faulty code possible... got it replaced after a month of a faulty machine and just find the music at the end of each wash is irritating and also is a bit too noisy and harsh on clothes as there is no agitator so clothes get twisted with each other and also the machine… Read more

many review sites I bought SW70SPWIP. IT has been a week and I will come back regularly for the updates in quality function etc.
Below are some, hopefully helpful, bullet points,
- I bought it at appliances online with free delivery for 527 AUD (is now -as of 09/11/2012 on sale for 498AUD),
- We tend to overload our washing machines and despite that the result is brilliant
- We did not experience harshness on clothes all come up nice and clean and intact
- It is not a loud machine but not as silent as a front loader,
- There is no agitator in the centre so a lot of room to fill (it fits a 200x200 duvet),
- Not many programmes but Fuzzy (the programme that feels the weight and decides on the wash cycle) works perfect each time every time,
- Spinning works perfect and you get acceptable humidity at the end of spin cycle,
- You can soak more soiled clothes for 15 or 30 mins using the Soak function,
- Control panel is easy to use,
- It does not use much water being a top loader,
- I am not quite sure of the usefullness of the lint remover as mentioned by others, if it was not there is Samsung suggesting that all that lint would have been lying on the clothes rather than being flushed away? Not sure. Have not had any lint issues with the previous washer that was already in place when we moved in (an old Fisher and Paykel). Maybe I don't understand :)
- The detergent drawer is not an issue and is easy to use. The softner is a different story all together. It is placed on the top side of the drum rather than on the chassis so it turns as the drums turns. If you are unlucky enough that the drum stops positining the softner hatch towards the back (right under the detergent drawer) it is a bit of a struggle
- Wash cycles are short as expected from a top loader (longest is 90 mins with soaking etc.)
- If you take into acount the electricity and water costs with the initial purchase price I must use this for 5 years or so to spend the purchase price of a more expensive machine. It is an excellent value for money.
Trust me, if you have the space for this machine you do not need all the bells and whistles of a more expensive washing machine. Speaking of bells and whistles Samsung SW70SPWIP has an endless, easy on the ear, chime at the end of each cycle. If you are looking for the bells and whistles that is! :)
Good luck,
The softner hatch
Best machine I've had – Had another brand which left lint all over clothes. Have not had any worries with the Samsung. Good lint filter too. I like the memory function . You just program in your usual wash press memory and away it goes. I have a large family and this machine copes very well with large loads Great wash . No lint left on clothes
Best washing machine at this price range – I've had this washing machine for a month now and so far it has been great. What i mean great is a washer that is priced to be competitive and gets the job done nicely. I do not expect it to have 100 buttons to show off how sophisticated I am, the controls has been simple and logical - simple is the best. As what everyone said, the large lint… Read more · 1
collector is highly effective and it DOES make a visible difference when the washing is done especially on dark clothes. I guess this is exactly why other reviewers said the lint collector can stink if not cleaned - well that's because it has been effective and collects lots of junk in it! So be grateful that the junk is not left on your clothes and empty the collector often!
I cannot comment on the durability yet and I hope it does not let me down. Reps from Samsung if you are reading this, mind you my previous Whirlpool top loader lasted 12 years with no problems at all. Hope this one lasts a decade too! Large lint collector, great washing results, mist shower, logical and useful control (not like other brands that shows-off with 100 buttoms) hard to use fabric softener container, hard to reach second filter at back.

Easy to use memory feature is awesome and doest use much water or electricity The detergent draw but i don't use it anyway
Not too bad bit hard on clothes – Great lint removal. Really easy to use (don't even have to read manual to work it out). Can fit alot in because no agitator. But to be honest, my clothes come out looking a bit beaten compared to my other washing machine (sort of pills the fabric). Have started washing on delicate to get around this issue so will see if that works. Lint removal is fantastic Really hard on clothes. Is a little bit noisy.

the surprisingly low water usage on fuzzy logic setting and the good clean wash so decided to take our 6 1/2 year old Maytag PAV3300 (you can read my review of that on this site) up to the holiday house and keep the Samsung in Melbourne where it will get the most use. Have only done 4 loads so far but it performs very well and has a great WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). Its early days, so I'll update this review as the machine ages. Its probably worth 5 stars but it does have a couple of very minor faults so I just gave it 4, but so far I'm very impressed. I have no problem at all with the lint filter - its easy to take out and clean and looks robust enough and I couldn't see any problem with the detergent drawer either. We always use liquid laundry detergent so the detergent drawer is a non-issue for us anyway. Bought it with the 5 year extended warranty from Harvey Norman. Real lint filter, low water usage, easy to use - especially with fully automatic fuzzy logic setting. Washes well and clothes come out quite well spun out, but not creased. The only faults I can comment on is the stupid placement of the pump filter. Others have also commented on this. Manual says to clean it every two weeks. I think this will be far too often, more like every two months but it is really hard to get to, behind the machine down near the floor. Also noticed the water hammer immediately as the water valves close off too quickly - again poor design.
Excellent – I love this machine as much as my Iphone. It looks great, washes brilliantly and fits a huge amount of washing. Definately would recommend "Sam" to anyone needing a new machine. agitator so you can definately fit more in the tub. The clothes come out fabulously clean too with no residue or lint.
I love the "fuzzy logic" which takes the guesswork out of how big the load is, so the machine determines how much water/time is needed.
pros:
-Size !! you can fit anything in the machine including doona's
everything comes out beautiful and clean, no yukky detergent residue.
- Very simple to use so your husband can't use the excuse that he doesn't know how to operate it. The machine will get smelly if you don't empty the filter ( my fisher paykel never had one so this was new to me) and I was amazed at how much lint came off the clothes.
The lid is a high gloss , I would suggest keeping a towel or something over the top when not in use to avoid scratching it with the washing basket.
The hole for the fabric softener is rather small.
Having no agitator, the clothes can get tangled ( use a washing bag for your stockingings and delicates ) and if you don't empty the machine soon after the cycle, the clothes will crush easily, this can be avoided with the delay start option anyway.
