Great towing vehicle – This vehicle replaced a Isuzu D Max (2014 model written off) and is used to tow the same caravan a Brilliant King Cobra weighing in at just under 3 tonne. It actually does a better job of towing the van which I believe is due mainly to the 8 speed transmission. Whilst I found the D-Max would only rarely get into top gear when towing I find that… Read more
the Rexton is quite often in 8th gear. The responsiveness with the van on the back means that I can quite easily maintain my desired speed of 95 to 100 on the open road. I use the cruise control when towing as I found without it I would often be speeding. I have recently replaced the tyres and fitted Cooper Discovery ATT. Got bugger all out of the OEM Tyres but then what new car does. The D-Max needed tyres at 40,000 as well. The interior is both spacious and comfortable with electric seat adjustments being up there with my favourite bits. I find the Apple car play and android very easy to use. We are currently travelling around Australia and use the iPhone navigation constantly. Are there any regrets with this car. Yes. I brought the Ssangyong paint treatment at the time of purchase and it is a giant waste of money. To be honest I do not think the Dealer, Warrnambool Ssangyong ever actually done the treatment in which case I was ripped off for nearly $1000 and if they did do it, it doesn't work in which case I was ripped off for nearly a $1000. Still looking for a Bullbar to fit but that will happen. Would I recommend this car to my friends and family. Yes in a flash. Would I buy another one if something happens to this one. Without hesitation.
Excellent value – We bought our elx 6 mths. It's soo quiet. We wanted it to tow up to 2750 kgs. It has all the tow kit on it including rear air bags . Awesome value, we love it, the only thing we are adding is side steps. We do admit we would prefer if it had gps but that's being picky. Show details

including bmw x5 and volvo xc70. this is best car for money by far, definately buy another one in a couple of years.
Lack of after sale service – I have a Rexton ELX 2018 - love the car, the ride, towing ability etc. But when the rear lefthand shocker leaked oil, I sent the photo to my closest Ssangyong service centre (2 hrs away) who refused to order new parts unless the vehicle was seen onsite. So I opted to use my local authorised garage (10 minutes away), who ordered the replacement via… Read more
Ssangyong Sydney... that was three months ago - they're still waiting, I'm still waiting, still driving an unroadworthy car... and we still have no word from Ssangyong Sydney as to when it will arrive.
Reliability. Quiet diesel. Composed ride. Quality interior materials – Ssangyong Rexton has been intended and developed as a luxury body-on-frame 4x4, rather than as a derivative from a ute, as is the case with most competition. This unique approach is evident inside and out. The 2.2 diesel is one of the quietest 4 cylinder in Australia. The only one I've found quieter is 2.2 skyactive diesel used in Mazda cx-5 (not… Read more
the Germans to my surprise). Mated to a 7 speed Mercedes automatic, the gear shifts are not very quick but smooth all the time. The current model has been upgraded to a much more responsive 8 speed.
Extensive use of soft touch cabin materials, in my opinion, makes the Rexton the only contender that can directly take on the Prado at almost half the price.
2 years since purchase, no issue whatsoever. Given its body on frame construction, the underpinning is far more rigid than a unibody SUV like the Kia Sorento and the likes. This means on sharp pot holes, the chassis response is not as flexible, sending more shudders to the cabin than otherwise. On the other hand, this rigidity means the body hardly rattles or squeaks since the chassis is much harder to be bent. The under body frame blocks most tyre roar, road noises keeping the cabin very quiet.
The composure at high speed is excellent. It's easy to underestimate your speed on freeway. Despite its height and weight, body roll is well addressed and handling is surprisingly sharp for the segment it belongs to.
I used to live in Tokyo and drove Lexus NX. Having driven my first Ssangyong, no single car has satisfied me more.
Lack of after sale service – The Rexton is a nice car. The diesel tows our 2.5 tonne van with ease. Had three services done, NONE were as per Ssangyong 777 service guide. Spoke Ssangyong Australia they say what do I head office to do and talk to the dealer. I have been waiting for new replacement wheels under warranty, I contacted the dealer and they said they are waIting for Ssangyong. Would I buy again NOT LIKELY. Show details
Dont believe the recent fake whitewash reviews – On the surface and on paper the car seems great. They look good and seem good value. But in reality it falls far short. The vehicles clearly arent designed for australian conditions. Ive owned many vehicles over the years and as a professional mechanic they are like a ford. Fix or repair daily. Only problem being, if you dont have an equipped… Read more
workshop on hand at all times and your out in the sticks chances are most options are ruled out and its a tilt tray ride to the nearest big city ssangyong dealer. Yes you pay a ton more for a Toyota, (id recommend anything except the hilux to be honest) but you know with a cruiser, fortuna, rav fj etc etc etc they can be fixed anywhere but will never need it. Theres a reason why you see mines and every man and his dog in the outback with a Toyota. Whilst we didnt have major issues like some ive heard of, it was more constant little things. Think old Mercedes electrical problems. I was meticulous about servicing it as well maybe thats why we didnt have the issues others had. Id buy a used Toyota over a ssangyong anyday. Just because you can buy diferent doesnt mean you should always. Look at great wall for example. Dont shoot yourself and maybe your familys vacation in the foot. Make a smart choice.
