Good German Design that Doesn't Work – The Sauber SG-100 is an upright carpet cleaner that features an oscillating brush head to agitate the carpet. Unfortunately, the oscillating head is its downfall and Sauber don't seem to care that it doesn't work. There is a clean water tank and a waste water tank, you push the cleaner along, pull the trigger and it puts water and detergent… Read more
down, agitates the carpet and then when you release the trigger and pull the cleaner backwards, it is supposed to suck up the dirty water only mine, it emptied the clean tank and did not suck up any water at all, the waste water tank was dry.
The machine has a clear plastic vacuum pipe that the water is supposed to travel up into the tank, I removed the tank and the suction pipe to ensure they were fitted correctly and they were. I tried again and it still didn't lift any water so, I pressed down slightly onto the suction pipe and hey presto water started flooding into the waste tank. I let go and it stopped, pressed down and it worked.
I rang the Sauber helpline and the lady there didn't really understand what I was telling her and declared that the machine was assembled incorrectly or was faulty. I told her that I was an engineer and that I could guarantee that the machine was assembled and working correctly. I informed her that that the issue laid with the oscillating head which continued to work even when the machine water trigger was off and both forward and back ward. The head lifts the front off the carpet and creates an air gap between the suction pipe and the carpet and by pressing the head down it makes it work again.
She asked me to go to the shop where I bought it and get them to check if it is assembled correctly and I advised her that the shop's demo machine does the same thing so what is the point. I told her that the machine is badly designed and the oscillating head needs to be deactivated when you suck up the water.
She said I could get a refund and I replied, if I wanted a refund, I wouldn't have bought the machine, I want a working carpet cleaner. She had no answer to that and said she would get it tested. Great said I but, what do I do meanwhile ???? Get a refund.
