Seddon Deadly Sins Cafe
1 review
Over the past few years I’ve gone to Seddon Deadly Sins many times for coffee, sometimes a treat and occasionally a meal. Sadly, this review was originally a rave review (below) but the last 4 times I went there staff twice ignored my husband and I. They served customers who arrived after us but completely ignored us until hubby went inside to order. Another time a staff member told me my seeing eye dog isn't allowed in the courtyard ($1200 on the spot fine for refusing service: we're actually allowed to sit INSIDE and they are definitely NOT allowed to throw us out of the courtyard, and I told him so). And the last time we went there, the same staffer who previously said my dog wasn't allowed in the courtyard didn't even address the fact that my dog was there, he just threw me onto the street. I went on Instagram and complained. Seddon Deadly Sins owner/manager replied acknowledging that I'd been there DOZENS of times but also claimed that on this particular occasion they had not "immediately" realised my dog is a seeing eye dog. And on that occasion the manager had followed my husband into the courtyard (hubby had gone inside to get service) and the manager watched his employee throw me out, and me crying as I left. He did not intervene. So if you're disabled, DON'T GO HERE.
They have takeaway and seating options inside the building, in a courtyard (service dogs only), and doggie-friendly tables along footpaths next to two adjacent walls of the building. They also offer very generous puppacinos with dog treats added. My dog has a fragile tummy so I ask for just a small portion of milk with no extras, which she DEVOURS.
The service is always excellent and friendly. We’ve been often enough that a few staff make a point of mentioning what dairy free treats (slices, brownies, double choc lamingtons) are on offer when I really only intended to have a coffee. I confess I often succumb to temptation.
I love the quirky touches, like their menus are in Little Golden Book covers with the original pages removed, replaced by the current menu.
They have an “all day breakfast” and “all day lunch” but their range isn’t huge: the food reflects an upmarket cafe with a hipsterish vibe, not a restaurant with a massive kitchen. They also offer alcohol and nonalcoholic drinks and cocktails. I’m there for the coffee so I can’t comment on other offerings. But I have tried a few of their meals, which have never disappointed. Like the pulled lamb toastie with salad, which I enjoyed last time. Hubby had scrambled eggs and bacon, and ate it with relish. (The attitude not the condiment.)
