Very primitive design and interface, clunky door opening push button, operating control buttons are very hard to press especially if your fingers are wet, tired, arthritic, etc. Theres no option to just add a minute, you have to enter the exact time in seconds and then it gets that wrong anyway (like microwave ovens from 1990s). The interior has holes on the side that catch sprayed grease and smoke into a sealed cavity that then can't be cleaned. The operating and warning beeps are piercingly loud and repeat too often - might be useful if you are hard of hearing, but there should be an option to disable the sounds, lower the volume or change the tone, a basic function many other brands offer.

As an added nuisance, Sharp Australia's website had no manuals listed for their microwave - seems they're embarassed to list them. I was able to find it in the overseas site, but it was 95% instruction for cooking different foods (note to Sharp: no human ever referred to an oven manual for that, we follow what recipe books say), nothing here about setting functions (aside from child lock), just to reinforce how unusually peimitive the functionality is.

At least it has an easy clean flat black front face.

Follow-up  · Good Guys pointed out that these issues aren't unique to Sharp, several appliance brands continue selling poorly-designed product and never innovate on much of their range. There are several benchtop models that avoid all of the issues we found with Sharp's microwave, which will make far superior replacement, depending upon budget: $ LG 23L/25L/42L 1000W NeoChef Smart Inverter Microwave (LG have other sizes but still older designs); $$ Breville 32L 1200W the Combi Wave 3 in 1 Convection Oven; $$$ Panasonic 27L/31L 1000W 4-in-1

Purchased in at The Good Guys for $199.
