Bullet proof! – I've had this machine for at least 12 years from my recollection. Never missed a beat considering it's daily use in a high calcium water region. Gold! Show details

Decent front loader – I bought this second hand, so not sure of its age, but I would estimate 5 years, including the time I've had it. It occasionally has an issue where the door won't unlock at the end of the cycle, but it must be a loose connection that's been bumped back in, as it hasn't happened since I last moved it (touch wood). Otherwise, it washes well and… Read more

generally the "fast" option will do a good job and is much quicker. It's a little noisy on the spin cycle, but can't really complain about that.

Excellent value – Had this machine for over two years now and it hasn't skipped a beat. Very simple to use. Cleans and rinses really well but sometimes the odd handkerchief gets caught in the front of the door and needs a rinse under the tap. Being a front loader it is very gentle on clothes. As far as noise is concerned it can get loud during spin dry cycle but… Read more

otherwise quiet. The only downsides I can think of are that it can take two hours to do a normal load and there's no countdown timer to tell you how long the present cycle has to go. Oh nearly forgot; once a wash cycle commences, you cannot really add clothes to the washer.

Did us good – We had the Simpson for 7 years, never missed a beat. With a family of 4 it got a good workout. Washed well, was cheap to buy and did everything we wanted it to do. Then it started to stop after the wash cycle, and would only continue if you would manually choose the rinse or spin program. Gave it away for free to someone who got some more use out of it. Great buy, happy it lasted us that long.

A washing machine that didn't even last four years!!! – I bought a front loader with what I thought was a reputable brand i.e. Simpson also with the view that front loaders are more water efficient. However after less than four years it has 'packed up' - on dismantling the rear supports of the drum were found to be completely corroded and cracked - one wonders if this would have potentially caused an… Read more

electrical fire as certain Samsung washing machines have done in recent times. Have gone back to traditional top loading (another brand) - emails to Electrolux to date have received no response.

Good machine but terrible design fault – I am usually the most moderate of people when writing these reviews; I rely on what people write and in turn think it’s probably a good thing to be as honest as I can, devoid of emotion when something goes right or wrong. This washing is good, it washes clothes quickly enough only when you use the quick wash function, otherwise it is on a par… Read more

with the other machines I've owned. It’s simple, easy functionality makes it easy to operate.

I like the fact that it operates just on a cold water inlet, allowing for greater use for those using solar systems that would consume up a large volume of electricity in heating the water.

Unfortunately, I've owned this for 18 months and the mechanism has failed along with the control board. Ordinarily, I think it would be just "one of those things", but a simple internet search has revealed a number of people with the same issues. This leads me to believe it’s a design fault with the mechanisms itself.

In other words, buy this if you have an extended warranty but avoid if you buy it with the standard warranty or want to buy it second hand. The parts now make it prohibitively expensive and uneconomical to repair which is a terrible waste of material.

I am reluctant to throw any item out without the chance of repairing it but frankly, I don’t think its viable to get it repaired when the parts they will be fitted with similarly are likely to require replacement within a similar time frame.

The brand on the whole is reasonable, but I find this particular model, or rather its components rather unreliable.

Good luck in making your choice. Simple functionality Unreliable components and costly repair.

I actually love my washing machine!!!! – I purchased this machine about 18mths ago, and have not had any problems at all, I really like this machine. My eco wash is only for 50mins. So not sure why the other reviewer said theirs lasted longer? Maybe theirs was faulty? My clothes come out spotless everytime without adding extra sprays etc. I love that it can wash my white towels in a… Read more ·  3

90C wash.

Also the wool/delicate cycle is fabulous in winter, just like handwashing the garment.

We were on holidays in S.A. and one of the apartments we stayed in had the same machine, and in the guest book it was noted that the machine was user friendly - and I totally agree!

Overall I have had no problems at all, and I do recommend this machine. Inexpensive, reliable so far

Good – Have had my machine almost 2 years and never misses a beat. Clothes are so clean and spun so well they dry in very quick time with few creases. I always use fast wash which takes 45 minutes. The other wash cycles take far too long and don't wash any cleaner than the fast wash. I used to miss a timer on this machine but have got used to it now.… Read more

Can get a little loud when spinning but probably no louder than most machines. Would never go back to a top loader. Definitely notice clothes are cleaner and a drop in water usage. A very good machine. Compact, dryer sits above it. Cleaner wash than any top loader and clothes spun almost dry! No timer

Terrible – Overall? Well, it certainly looks better than my old one but that's about it. All the advantages of a front loader haven't paid off so far... Not much except the price. Its cheap and it cleans my wash. But I am not impressed with this machine. We had a very old toploader before we bought this one and I had been looking forward to a new one for… Read more

years but our old one just didn't want to give up. Finally it broke down and I hurried to buy a front loader. After reading a lot of reviews, Simpson seemed to best value for money. Its a month now since I first started using it and its been a bit of a disappointment:

* The cycle takes a lot longer but the result is not much cleaner than my old toploader (this was promised in the shop though: "front loaders give a much better washing result")

* The spinning cycle is extremely noisy (another thing I looked fwd to: a quieter machine sigh)

* The washing machine starts ' walking' during spinning. Something my old one didn't do.

Bad – Would not buy again because; 1. The DOOR LOCK TIMER takes >35+ secs to release the Door Lock [EVEN WITH PLUG PULLED OUT!) - consider carefully-> do you often want to add items after starting a cycle? [On fullest water level the water sits below the level of the door 2 SECS after the bowl stops rotating, so no, it's not preventing any… Read more

spills]. NO settings will defeat this.

2. Has ONLY connection for cold water-> AND heating element

[internal, to heat water] died after several months use.

3. Front markings poor - couldn't Simpson afford the extra

0.0001¢ to ink Centigrade next to the 90/40/30 temperature

numbers? or millilitres next to the 1000/700/600 numbers?

Note; Washes like this-> rotates several times-then stops

completely for 3+ secs-rotates again opposite direction-

stops again-ad infinitum. No wonder it takes forever to do

a wash. Generally quiet.

Acceptable noise when spooling up to spin dry,

and clothes very dry after spin. Idiotic >35+ seconds for door lock to release.

Good – I am very happy with this machine, I would never go back to a top loader after using a front loader. I just wish I had shopped around a bit more and researched the different options the different machines have. This is the first time I have owned a front loader, I am very happy with it, I love the size of the front loader, it fits in very neatly.… Read more

I love how clean it washes, whilst using very little water, which I was worried about at first. It is a very quiet washing machine. I wish it had a timer so I could see how long the wash had to go, also I think they could have provided a better manual to explain which wash is best for what?, the manual gives the same information for several different wash cycles, and being new to front loaders itwould have been helpful.

Good – Im Keeping it!!! and leaving it on the same cycle so there is no waste of power, and water, now that we have another drought.. Its onlt 3 days old, quiet and does a very clean wash. My first wash I was quite annoyed because it seemed to go forever, I had to turn it off in the end. But today I put it on cottons 30, fastwash and let it do its thing.… Read more

Cycle was approximately 55mins, less than my last front end loader. Thank goodness or I would have taken it back, as I couldn't see any savings in a 2hr wash, saves me carting everything to the laundrymat, yeah!! The instruction book was hard to understand and there is no times for the cycles. I had to get an electrician because the machine had no light or bell to say it's on now!! That only happens when you turn it to the cycle you want..Lastly its heavy and I cant get the legs balanced properly, so it shakes like hell on the spin cycle.... any suggestions?

Terrible – My previous 2 washing machines in the last 25 years were both Hoover front loaders, the first lasted 10 years without fault until the end, the second lasted 15 years, again, no problems until the end, only replaced because cheaper than than having service calls, both machines washed perfectly in 45 minutes, but the new modern front loader by the… Read more

same company Simpson takes 3 hours to complete a wash cycle if the PREWASH cycle is used which is needed if you want your clothes to come out clean, and even then prewash stain remover is needed, I will never use another Simpson front loader, even the company could not tell me how long a wash cycle takes to complete after several telepone calls to their technical support department, (all manufacturers are the same), I am now requesting Simpson reimburse me my money an remove this horrible machine and I intend to use only a Top Loader Washing machine in the future.

Takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete an ECO wash cycle which includes a 1 hour 37 minute wash and 3 rinse cycles which takes another 1 hour to complete, has a fast wash cycle which takes 61 minutes to complete but only has 2 shortened rinse cycles, does not and could never wash properly due to the extremeley low amount of water used in both wash and rinse cyles,(you cannot see any water in the drum, drain hose at rear too short unless your sink or drain inlet is on the left hand side which is something most people never consider prior to buying a new washing machine, also, mine is now only 2 weeks old and the spin cycle sounds like a jet engine taking off with a ear piercing sound (possible bearing damage, there is NO cycle time indication except for start wash and warning light when cycle is finished, only has cold water inlet and heats water while it starts washing in cold water first until it heats up the water to your desired temperature which depending on the cycle chosen either ECO wash or Fast wash, could take upto 70 percent of the actual wash time to eventually heat the water.

Excellent – Other key factors in decided on this model was price comparison and consumer reviews for deciding on this brand and model. Another important factor for me was availability of spare parts to ensure faster repair turnaround. I chose to invest in the 5-year extended warranty which includes in-home repairs and swap for like if problem cannot be… Read more

identified. So far I am very happy with my decision! My previous top loader was also a Simpson that I had for 17 years!! Apart from a tap washer that need replacing I never had a day's problem with the machine. I considered Samsung but at the end of the day, I decided to stick with the "tried and proven". Apart from the ecological aspects, this machine is so quiet, washes beautifully. None identified.
