Won't turn on anymore – Bought this washing machine when we were younger and have a smaller budget. Lasted us for 6 years now, but it just died out of a sudden without any warning. It won't turn on anymore. Husband took it apart and found one of the main component on the main circuit board had fried. However, before it died this machine had given us a few different… Read more

problems, it will stop working mid way with an error code, or it won't let us start a load due to an error code, which was quite annoying. It turned out there were socks stuck somewhere in the system. The lint filter doesn't stay on and the Agitators go mouldy easily, it was a pain to clean it all out. It also ruins many of our clothes.

We didn't expect an appliances didn't last for more than 10 years, so was quite disappointing.

SWT554 won’t turn on – Whilst lasting 7 years, with a service tech having to come out to fix an error code back at 3 years of age. The machine now won’t turn on (the power point is fine because other appliances work fine in the power point). The drain pump hose is clear and not blocked. I believe the PCB is to blame. When I called Electrolux to complain they… Read more

offered to send a repair person to inspect the machine (but at the cost of the consumer) as it’s out of manufacturers warranty period.

I informed them that the Australian Consumer Law overrides any manufacturers warranty and that statutory warranty continues longer than manufacturers warranty and extended warranty. The Customer Service Rep didn’t seem to know of the existence of the ACL. I’m now waiting on the return phone call of the escalation team.

Given that Choice Magazine suggests that a washing machine should last 10 years & Simpson was a reputable company, you would think that the machine would last 10 years.

Additionally, the ATO states that the effective useful life of a washing machine is 10 years for residential purposes.

When I emailed Electrolux, I have not received a response.

Furthermore, the machine has not been gentle on clothes when washing and has not been collecting lint properly for quite some time

A reliable machine, more a Holden Ute than Masarati – Discontinued. But the lint filter is good, keeps clothes and machine clean. It washes clean and is reasonably gentle. You get used to the clacks and clunks. It seems robust. For my generation it is annoying that all cycles are pre-programmed. We grew up with machines with cycles we could control. If machines like that re-appeared I would go and buy one straight away.

Great Except for one thing – I got this washing machine because my Simpson 7.5kg one finally showed it's age and started to break down. I purchased this one from Appliances On-line, they came out the next day and took the old one away and bought the new one. Everything was great except for the hot and cold water hoses. They were so cheap and plastic that the installer could… Read more

not get them on my taps, even though the fittings were the right size. Luckily I had my old ones which were built for quality and to lasts forever. All washing machine companies seem to want to cut costs. They really need to start brining back some quality parts. This is not just on my machine, but even on $2000 machines. Start making better water hoses.

Awesome washing machine for a couple – We bought this machine as our state of the art and over priced F&P got the wobbles and stopped washing clothes. We bought a Simpson SWT554 and it is working a gem. No crazy wobble, no annoying beeps it just washes clothes clean without the bells and whistles and at half the cost. Included delivery, setup and removal of old machine. Very happy!!

Failed under warranty. Repair person came and it failed the next day – Failed under warranty. Electrolux repair person came and said it was fixed but it failed again the very next day. Why can't these repair people actually test things before leaving? Our last washing machine made by Fisher and Paykel lasted 20 years. What a shame Electrolux can't make machines that last.  Show details

Same old story - PCB dies after a few years. No response from Electrolux – Same story here, purchased this a few years back. Stopped all of a sudden. I ended here while searching for possible issues and once identified the problem as being the PCB, I tested it to make sure and it was right. I contacted Electrolux for help. No response received to my email! Don't think I'll purchase another electrolux product again.  Show details

Only last a few yrs – So after raising the issues of having no power. Which turns out it is a common problem with Simpson products. They request i get ahold of they for they like to help..... A pack of… Read more

lies... they request they send a repairing out to look at it.. even they i have already have had a professional look at it... but wait i have to pay for their repairman.. not only is their repairman double in price to standard washing machine repairnmen but they will only look and not do any work.. Simpson don't care about its customers and have the cheek to want more money from you when all the product they manufacturer are faulty...

So advice keep away from Simpson products.

Another main circuit board – Nice machine when working shame its main issue is the failure of the main power board like most other reviews mines only 3 yrs old light use single person main power board failure. steer clear of Simpson electronic units Their factory quality control is sadly lacking in the electronic design area.  Show details

Turned off mid-wash and won't restart! – We have had a Simpson 5.5kg for around 3 years and it just simply turned off mid-washing a load on the weekend. We couldn't get it to turn back on so we had to manually drain the water and get the clothes out. It appears that alot of people have had this issue. Any ideas on how to fix it? Very annoying!  Show details

Had ours for about 4yrs till it died – Received a free toploader so wasn't complaining had ours for 4 an a bit year now and suddenly it has died tried to research online for a fix as you all know washing machines these days average price are >$500. The one thing I like about this was the old style dial, it was nice an compact it was not to complicated to work. I'm reluctant to purchase the newer version due to it dying randomly.  Show details

So upset and disappointed – I bought this machine in March and it sounds like a jet planes taking off. The empty tub squeaks like crazy and when its washing we have to shut two doors and turn the tv up. It is such a disappointment. I would never recommend this machine to anyone. And its a drama to the retailer to honor the warrantee.  Show details

Rusting before my eyes – Hello, My 2/12 year old Simpson SWT554 washer is rusting away.Everything else works most of the time but the way its deteriorating there will be rusting gaps around the 3 edges very soon.I dont know what is happening inside the machine but Im hoping the working parts arent deteriorating as well. These machines are just not made like they used to be. Disappointed unfortunately. Mark.

Does not turn on and is relatively new – Minimul use after buying in 2012 and replacing control unit for $250 after 2 years and now the control unit has failed again. The look of the machine is very attractive but unfortunately the failing appears to be in the quality of the electronics Very poor machine. My advice is to buy ANYTHING ELSE.

Do Not Buy – I had this machine for just 3 years and is now DEAD. Minimal use only for one person only. Machine now wont turn on. Do not buy this machine. Very disappointing unit. Will now have to spend another $400+ on a machine that I expected would've lasted many years more.

Terrible only just 3 years old and has died no power – Only bought this machine in Febuary 2013 it has only been used by myself a single lady with no children left at home. Tech has told me it will be about $220 to fix. My last machine a maytag lasted me almost 20 years this machine obviously was not build to last!! Very very disappointed.

Died after just 2 and a half years of light use! – Do not buy this machine, after just 2-3 years of light use (just me and my husband in our household) it has stopped working and has no power, it turns out the main board has blown, will cost 300+ to get fixed which seems pointless when they're 400 new! So with a baby on the way and an offer on a house on the cards we're now having to spend savings… Read more

Fried after 3 years – I can't believe it....i've had this for 3 years and I always take good care of my appliances and it doesn't even turn on. It sounds like all the mainboards get fried after 2-3yrs of use.So disappointed that I'm going to be so out of pocket to get a new one due to unreliable construction.

I absolutely hate this machine – Keeps saying theres an error which will eventually fix itself up over a few days, which will leave me piled up with laundry to do and pisses me right off. There is no point calling someone to come out and fix it because by the time they get there( a few days later) its apparently working again and the whole thing was just a waste of both our times.. This error has happened probably about a dozen times since Ive had it. So fed up.

Didn't even last 3 years! – This is the 3rd Simpson washer I have owned. Never had problems with other 2. Christmas eve the panel died. It won't even light up. Reading your reviews I may be cheaper to buy a new one. Simpson? No way!. I was such a loyal customer. I'm feeling really disappointed and let down. I also have had 2 Simpson dryers and have been happy with those.

Just Died A Painless Death!!! – Wow, machine just died on the weekend - display is blank, nothing works, nor will it turn on. I opened the top cover to find the mainboard is a bit burnt around an IC chip, and another component looks like it's fried. I called a local repair place, they want $200 for a new mainboard, and $150 for a service call-out fee. Hardly worth spending that… Read more

money on a $500 machine, I said I'd call 'leccylux, she thought it was a good idea.

Spoke to Electrolux, very unsympathetic (pathetic) was more like it, told the CSR my old hoover washer went 27 years, and would expect a reputable name like Simpson to go a bit longer than 4 and half years. Not too cared at all the CSR, asked him re cost to repair, quoted $145 for tech, and if the part is thee correct faulty part then another $143.00 - Not interested in all these comments here, didn't really give a hoot about the product being bad-mouthed (i.e. truthfully reported) on this website. So I said I'd put a comment up too.

May have to talk to fair trading re Australian Consumer Law and the expectation that a product should be expected to last longer than it has.

On a final note, the machine did work well while it lasted.

Would I buy another Electrolux backed product again? NO WAY!!

Worst machine ever – I would steer clear. I have a 5.5 which i selected to replace my faulty Samsung. Machine always ends up un balanced and i use a quick wash which takes for ever. problem i contacted Simpson. Long story short they treated me like i was an idiot and didnt know how to use a washing machine. They asked me to make sure the machine was level (which it was) and not to put the clothes in evenly like i had been doing but to throw them in.

The only reason i got this machine was because my old 1 could have caught on fire. Wish i had just got another Samsung as i never had these problems. Prior to the Samsung i had a Simpson for 10 years without a problem. If money wasn't an issue i would have already purchased a new machine.

I have let all my friends and family know its the worst machine ever and not to purchase.

Hopeless product – All washing machines are not built to last these days. Even an expensive one ( like speed queen). But at 3 years old. Simpsons are the worst of a bad bunch. Disillusioned. Acceptable for a uni student – THE GOOD: 1) This machine still works after 4 years. 2) I don't have balance issues that others report 3) It does clean 4) Spin cycle removes most of the water THE BAD 1) Leaks water 2) We find clothes under the machine (probably our fault - when we remove socks and undies, it can slip under the side of the machine - I would prefer a… Read more

better design)

3) It leaves detergent residue on clothes (even when using a small amount like 1/2 recommended amount)

4) It does not remove lint effectively

5) Adding fabric softner makes no difference

Simpson provides pensioners with the deal of the worst washing machine in the world! – I am writing this on behalf of my parents. So much for my 3 year old Simpson Ezi set. 5.5kg – Bought my EZI set 5.5kg machine 3 years ago. It doesn't turn on anymore. Its dead. Its clean but its dead. What's the good of a machine that dies after being used weekly for only 3 years? Worst machine ever – There are only two of us now to do washing for. I had a good opinion of other Simpson products we have used and thought this small machine might do the job for us.
