Dead. No power. After only 4yrs? – Purchased in Dec 2014, and now just over four years later, the machine is dead. No power whatsoever. Dead as the proverbial door nail. Have checked the power point itself has power, all good there.. Have checked all leads/switches/settings etc.. Nup, it's the machine that's dead. DEAD. Kaput. Zip. Nadda. Zilch. The previous machine ran for… Read more
decades - what a battlehorse. Brand new machine, 4yrs, dead - what a show pony.

Update: service technician has visited on-site and confirmed a component has failed and needs to be replaced. To fail after only 4yrs seems abysmal.
Disappointed – I have been reasonably happy with my Simpson top loader, up until last Friday when it just died, it stopped dead and nothing, just kaput and it’s not even 3 years old and has very little use as I live alone. I am extremely disappointed. I am now left to do my washing by hand.. Show details

water loading – The machine cleans clothes ok. Problem is when machine starts to load water it starts normal then goes into 15 sec load water 15 sec stop start again 15 sec load water 15 sec stop this goes on and on .Also wash cycle goes on for ever very inefficient. Machine had this problem from new. Dealer said that is what they are suppose to do. Not very happy. Will think twice before buying Simpson again. Jennifer Show details

It is reliable – About 3 years old these machine is still going strong. It can leave lint on my clothes especially on my black clothes. It is quite noisy when it spins and occasionally goes off balance mostly doing bedding. It is big fit's a lot of washing and handles a Queen sized doona with ease. It has a soaking opinion which is good for very dirty clothes.… Read more
When it breaks I would consider getting the same brand again.
Update 8/2019: 5 years old and still goes almost like new. I think it's quieter than new. It still noisy on spin but not as bad as when new. I have put a block of wood between the wall and machine to stop it moving when it vibrates or goes out of balance which it rarely does. I had to replace the lint filter last year as the old one developed a hole, I have 2 now and alternate them every few weeks. Lint isn't a huge issue and I turned the end of cycle beeper off years ago because it was annoying but it easy to tell when it's finishing as it get noisier in the final minute of the final spin. It goes on 3-9 times a week on colours or heavy duty and I always use liquid as it rinses better and warm wash regularly and occasional hot wash, especially because I use fabric softener. Using warm and hot water keep the machine clean and I always leave the lid up and turn the power off at the wall when not in use and when I go away for a few days I turn the water off also.
Update 8/2020 6 years old and still running flawlessly. I stopped using fabric softner and switched to laundry sanitiser and I find it works so much better on towels and anything really smelly, also I found that since I stopped using fabric softner the clothes are smelling cleaner and fresher coming out of the machine. On an average week it gets used about 5 times and 6-7 if bedding is getting done. But with Covid I was doing less loads (3-4 loads a week) when we were staying at home all the time. I continue to do warm and hot washes but only when necessary and always when I do a load of towels, otherwise I have no issues as long as I don't put too much in or it might not clean properly.
Little tip for Simpson users with this model or similar model don't use regular with Eco rinse as I learn't it never uses enough water, try the deep rinse or the colours or cold with Eco, and don't mix sheets and towels together.

A pretty Awesome washer..heavy duty – This machine works really well. .However you need to add 20-30 mins when setting a timer..A little thing that I'll mention.although no big deal. The powdered washing powder works better if dissolved in water prior to putting in the nominated drawer..If I don't dissolve the powder first some loads end up with powder clumps. WARRANTIES A MUST & LOOK AFTER THE PRODUCT WORKS – 1st top loader 6.5kg 2005-2011 (replaced drive belt with $9 Holden fan belt in 2009) still worked 2nd top loader 7.5kg 2011-2017 (replaced drum struts for $80 in 2016) still worked 3rd top loader 8.5kg 2017- 1st clothes dryer 5kg 2005- beeped loudly every 5 minutes Until turned off LOL Show details
For the price, its pretty decent value – The machine washes well. My extended family has 4 of the machine and all work well. Lint catcher is nice and works well. Clothes come out lint free every wash. It is sensitive to being out of balance, this is true and can be annoying, but otherwise its pretty hard to fault the machine, especially at this price point. Constant error codes – For the first few months it was ok. Now it throws up constant error codes. EFO and E50 are the most common ones. So i have to shut the machine down, restart the cycle and hope it makes it to the end. It's less than a year old and I'm seriously considering replacing with a different brand. Show details

Terrible!! – I bought this washing machine 6 months ago after the previous Simpson washing machine "died"after only 3 years. water level ( which is a feature I paid more for ) but even worse is the machine constantly goes off balance once towels or anything heavy is in the wash. No matter how carefully I load the machine to evenly distribute he load it constantly then shifts the wash to one side and the machine even moves. I am so tired of this I am about to return to where I bought this from and ask for a refund. DONT buy this brand!!!!!!

The Beeping! Someone please stop the beeping!!!! – We bought this washing machine from the previous owners of our house in Nov 16, for an absolute steal - they had bought it new in July 16. Well, it actually wasn't a steal as it turns out. Let's talk about the beeping! It emits a periodic 'beep beep beep' when a wash cycle has finished, and it goes on, and on, and on, until you turn the machine… Read more
off. Our entire household now yells 'shut the crap up!' every time we hear it. We're losing our minds. The beeping also means we can't run a load when we go to bed, and given how long a load takes, this is a real disadvantage in Tasmania in winter, as it means we can't hang a load out before going to work.
It has very long wash cycle times, one can't lift the lid once the machine starts filling (why?? WHY?!?), it emits a high pitched, pealing whine while filling, and spits up frequent error messages (I'm certain this is an attention seeking ploy!).
I thought I was pretty clever getting this machine so cheap - ha HA! I will be replacing it as soon as we can afford it!

The noisiest washing machine on the market! – Purchased second hand. Extremely noisy. I had it in an outside laundry and got rid of it because even the neighbours were disturbed by the noise it makes. It's a huge washing machine and fits lots of bedding in it which is a plus but I didn't think it was very good overall. Show details
Very disappointed – After a 7 year break I went back to a Simpson washing machine and have found washing frustrating since. I've always bought Simpsons in the past. The high pitched noise while filling is so annoying, the way it peeps every time you open the lid and at the end of a cycle drives me nuts (the peeping continues every few minutes until you turn the thing… Read more
off).
The cycles are ridiculously long, you can't just select 'spin' and the load becomes unbalanced several times each wash - and peeps endlessly until you fix it.
I bought the machine 8 months ago (August 2016) and now the agitator has begun to make dreadful noises like the gears are grinding.
I guess I'm going to have to call the repair man...
In short, it's the worst washing machine I've ever bought.

WORST MACHINE i HAVE EVER OWNED - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY – the high pitch noise it makes when it fills with water is enough to drive you nuts my kids complain about it as does my husband cant imagine what it does to the dogs . Absolutely hate the locking mechanism when it starts to wash won't let me add something, hate that the last minute of washing actually takes about 5 minutes as I stand waiting… Read more
patiently for it to finish so I can hang it out, hate how it continually beeps at me when the wash is finished. Hate that I cannot start a load or manipulate it like I could with my old machine, hate how long the loads go for 50 minutes some 1hr 20 minutes, NOW AFTER 5 MONTHS ITS NOT WORKING AND HAS AN E50 ERROR WHICH IS MOTOR FAILURE. Simpson I have been using your washing machines for all my adult life, so didn't hesitate when I needed to buy a new machine but I am so disappointed with this machine, Regret buying it and will never ever buy another Simpson product. Also don't like how you cannot preset your preference every wash I have to adjust the warm water which the machine automatically selects to cold as I never use warm water, because I know the more I press those little buttons the quicker they are gonna fail but have no other option every load I go through the same process changing every one. Do not waste your money on this machine.. wish I had read the product reviews first before buying.
Piece of rubbish . Furious – Brand new machine , 3 months in needs new engine and repairs . Worst Washing Machine I have ever owned! – I bought the Simpson washing machine, 8 and a half kilograms EziSet, about 5 months ago. It had nothing but problems with it, continuously going out of balance and I had to manually move wash around inside the washing machine during the spin. On auto-height, for water, it never completely covers the clothes so the clothes never wash properly even… Read more
when you select manual height and set it on full it only fills 3 quarters of the tub. It is horrible for washing lint even if you sort the clothes. When you go to bed, you can't put the washing on as the beeping on completion is annoying. Also if it becomes unbalanced during the night you have to get up and fix it yourself. To top it all off it makes this terrible high pitched whistling noise when filling with water. Very clunky and noisy washing machine, doesn't even wash properly as well. Previously I had a Hover Washing Machine 7.5 kg about 9 years old, I decided to get a new washing machine as the gearbox started to leak, even my old machine leaking oil is still better than this Simpson. This is the worst washing machine I have ever owned, don't buy this machine.

where to buy a new lint filter. The lint filter has not been a good thought as you can not wash it out as all the lint is getting caught in the edges. Also if you just happen not to clip it back on correctly it stays in the agitator and it is a mission to get it out. So now i have to go and buy new lint filter bags all time. Not happy!

Simpson E21 Disappointing – Since buying this machine our washing has been peppered with small holes finally we found that at the top of the stainless bowel was a series of small projections from not been finished during production that just punched holes in to the items during washing. Waste Of Money – Not even worth 1 star, does not wash clothes properly no matter what detergent I use or how big the load is, clothes are still dripping wet and left with white marks and dirty after washing. When washing big items like donnas and big and heavy sheets it gets unbalanced some time and I have to move the washing about a bit to re-balance it. to go to a laundromat, one time I went there and some machines were full of horse hair..) I had a Westinghouse before this (same company - electrolux) which lasted about 7 years. I notice the new Simpson's cabinet is made from thinner steel and the agitation seems a bit softer. I think they had to make the agitation softer because the thin steel cabinet couldn't handle harsh agitation. Also the outside of the motor on the Simpson is made of thin pressed steel and the windings appear to be on plastic components. (Its visible by just looking at the base of the machine). The old Westing house had a very solid looking motor. Anyway Harvey Norman did a good deal on an extended warranty (I got 6 years replacement warranty) and a surge protector which is permanently connected to it. Because of the unbalancing, I'd consider looking at a Speed Queen next time - $900 only buys thin steel and semi plastic motors these days. will see how it goes. Update Had for 8 months now, going strong. Washed a doona today and it didn't get unbalanced so yeah I'm happy with it. Does not get unbalanced too often just don't overload it, it probably washes better anyway. I even saw the 7.5kg on sale at Harveys for $685 or something, hard to beat that price ! even if its a smaller machine.
Wash Cycle Takes Too Long – The Simpson SWT8542 wash cycle takes far long to wash a load and not always does it get my husbands work clothes clean. It tangles up sheets and towels which are washed separately. Using the fast wash cycle didn't wash the clothes well enough so it is the regular wash I use.
Only put 1 as there isn't a 0 – Rented this machine and after a few months it wouldn't spin at the last cycle, turned it off and tried again next day and it worked ok. Last 6 months it has gotten worse, saying it unbalanced and bouncing everywhere when it clearly wasn't. Not spinning clothes properly so they wet to hang out. It now will not even turn on!! Of course it happened after warranty finished. Regretting renting it and paying more than it's worth.

A good washing machine but a cheap agitator driver – Purchased on 2nd Dec. 2014, cleaned the lint bag and saw large amount of gunk in the bottom of the agitator, removed the agitator and found huge amount of gunk in it and under it, the drive plate in the base appears to be made of di-cast which is showing very worrying signs of corrosion already, I have had it for 8 months and my guess it might get me one more year.

the bag under a tap, a lot comes off but not enough. When looking to buy more bags I was told $17 for one bag and housing, I don't need the housing, I only want the bags, surely selling extra bag(s) with every machine would be a plus, and even better if you could buy 1/2 doz for $17 a pop. I've been wondering whether I could use stocking sox. Another thing, why can't you purchase these things at point of purchase, is it only me?
I would like a refund Simpson SWT8542 – Machine is noisy, doesn't wash properly despite each load taking @ 1 hour. My machine has a pungent wet smell that goes through the house despite constant cleaning with hot water and vinegar. I only use fabric conditioner once a week with my black work pants but according to Electrolux the machine smell is due to "over use of fabric conditioner". I have been washing for 30 years and have never had this problem. Customer service - unhelpful.

sound every time the agitator moved. Then it started to spin........I now know what it like to live with aircraft noise. Cant believe how loud this machine is. Then it comes to the cycle times. Fast wash should be around the 30 min mark. not an hour...seriously. and you cant just spin a load. If you are a person that sometimes handwashes small items and then likes to spin dry, this is not the machine for you. Quickest drain and spin cycle is around 40 mins. This machine is obviously designed by someone who has never had to do laundry in their life. Thank goodness for Harvey Norman taking this machine back. It only lasted 1 day in my house. We have gone back to a Sumsung and with it washing quietly away now, I couldnt be happier.
Very Satisfied – Six week old Simpson SWT8542 provides perfect clean Lint filter yields about 3cc lint each wash. Cycle times are a little long, but will soon try Woollens (50 minutes on warm/deep/nosoak). Spin is always balanced, although not as dry as old F&P. 8.5Kg load is a joy, after the limiting 7.5Kg F&P. Ten year old F&P was soiling with lint; was never perfect.
Lousy machine – Does a poor job, I am very disappointed. I washed over $300 worth of linen and has dried with oil stains over them. I am so angry. This has really upset me. machines on the market the more your damaging your brand. Electrolux, instead of replying to this comment with excuses, please let your design engineers know that what they are making is amateurish C-R-A-P. The Simpson was dumped on the footpath with disgust and a German made Bosch was bought in it's place..now very happy.Thankyou.
