The worst washing machine I have ever owned. Washes ok but when it try's to spin and rinse CONSTANTLY GOING OUT OF BALANCE. DO NOT BUY THIS WASHING MACHINE. I purchased it to wash horse rugs and towels, I hate this washing machine. Seen other horse owners selling this model saying it sometimes goes out of balance, liars!

Great washer still going strong after 12 years – Great washer Loves heavy loads and has performed hundreds of washes over twelve years. Had to replace the main board after ten years and the bowl suspension struts after twelve years. Just like maintaining your car it needs a bit of love every so often. Show details

Great machine – We have had our Simpson washing machine for years and it has never let us down. It copes with everything from delicates to stained and sweaty work clothes. I can get in huge loads, so perfect for our family. Maybe people like to vent when things go wrong but rarely when things just tick along nicely???  Show details

Brilliant machine! – We simply love our Simpson! We have had it a good 7 yrs. it is a 9kg machine. It washes very well with a strong agitation to help remove all stains from clothes. My husband is a mechanic & always gets asked how his clothes are always so clean?! We have had to have the suspension struts replaced on the barrel which was approx $200 but since then… Read more

we’ve had no issues at all. Only thing I wish is we could turn the beeper off for night washes while u sleep. It’s a very annoying beep! Lol

Simpson brand is now garbage – I hope people read up on reviews on their products before purchasing. Mine keeps getting error 17 after the wash cycle it throws itself into every direction like many other people have been getting. Tried replacing the suspension thinking that was why its unbalanced -nope- pulled the whole thing apart and back together and runs just as crap Show details

Absolutely disgusted – I always thought Simpson was a fantastic household name & brand, that we have trusted & enjoyed using over the 20 plus years we have been purchasing different appliances. But this washing machine SWT954 oh my life!!! I don’t know how many times I have waited almost close to 2 hours for a load of clothes to wash, then the errors E this & E that...… Read more

to the point of wanting to take to the machine with a sledgehammer & go back to good old hand washing... but having a large family & teeenagers, who change their look 3 times a day {insert rolling of the eyes lol} I’m a single parent also, so this cost for having parts replaced & this & that... but last night was the be all to end all... I have the man flu at the moment & had just put my sheets on to wash, then ended up in the shower trying to break my fever somehow, only to come out & almost have a heart attack when I smelt something burning... so I rushed to the laundry, only to find my piece of crap SWT954 almost on fire & making a growling noise, my sheets are fine, my pillow case is no longer R.I.P. my lovely night drool catcher... lucky no one human was injured or killed from this malfunction!!!

I thought Simpson brand was reputable - Mistake big mistake – Purchased the 9.5 kg Washing Machine 10/3/13 thinking I could wash quilts in it. The quilt rubbed the edge of the plastic inner circle and was hard molten pieces of plastic. Simpson advised it was not made to wash quilts, Cannot see a clause in their user manual. Over time it has become a chore to do the washing as it gets the E17 fault and… Read more

is out of balance all the time, don't even think of a small wash.

I think it is time to contact Electrolux as a Consumer I am protected by Consumer Law, I am supposed to be able to use the item for the purpose intended...washing.

My previous washing machine lasted 21 years.

Worst washing machine ever – For such a big brand there should be better way of dealing with these problems, Error ‘e50, e17 have had them all in under 2 years of purchase, wifey bought it as it was big enough for our growing family, turns out this machine works when it wasn’t and has random error code popping up throughout, read a few threads that say to turn off and turn… Read more

on, but 90% of the time these don’t work have gotten sick of this, when rinsing sound sounds like a big jumbo jet is outside.

Will never buy Simpson again – It does not clean clothes well unless you put them through twice (sometimes more) and definitely NOT on eco or fast wash. There's usually soap residue left so rinsing isn't good either, especially since I do not overdose and follow instructions carefully. Sheets come out with dry spots still on them, even when I tested having the water level… Read more

higher than it needed to be for that load just to make sure there was enough water to wash with.

I have lost quite a few items of clothing to this agitator, new and old, delicate and tough, it doesn't matter.

It is definitely, DEFINITELY loud! It sounds so much like a stampede that sometimes my guests think we've entered the game of Jumanji.

It tells me I've used too many suds, even when I've put something in to rinse through without ANY soaps and it CONSTANTLY overbalances. Guaranteed in an hour wash it'll overbalance at 38, 32, 28, 21, 18, 16 and 13 minutes left on the timer. If I hadn't tied a string to the outside of the barrel to stand there and hold the barrel still during the wash I would never get another load of washing done again with this machine.

My favourite feature is the amount of noise and vibration it makes keeps the snakes away from my house.

Washes and spins clothes to death – Takes 30 minutes longer than the dial indicates. Some even an hour longer if you do an extra rinse. On delicate or handwash cycle clothes are extremely creased. In normal cycles everything gets very tangled. Even just a rinse and spin cycle takes over 30 minutes I hate it mainly because my clothes get so creased. I try to stop the machine 10 mins before the end but they are still very creased.  Show details

Worst top loading machine ever – This machine washes ok......but every time it spins the E17 error code comes up after it thrashes itself to a stop in an alarming way. No amount of careful loading or reloading to balance the wash helps....it will still smash the bowl into the sides regardless. Good Guys said it was not their responsibility and to ring Electrolux. refuse to do any thing about it as it’s out of warranty....of course. From what I’ve discovered it is a dud model and I believe they should repair or replace it. I rang Cosumer advice and they were no help either. It wasn’t particularly cheap and I feel ripped of as it only went properly for a couple of years....definitely would Never buy a Simpson washer again or any Electrolux products.

SWT9542 Nothing but problems! – My wife and I purchased a Simpson SWT9542 in 2012 to replace an older model that provided 15 years of reliable operation. Since purchasing the new machine we have had noting but problems. The very first load the plastic lid hinges snapped off. These were replaced under warranty. Within weeks we were experiencing the unbalanced issues and… Read more

the E17 error code pretty much every wash cycle. The technician could not find anything wrong with the machine. After reading reviews on the E17 issue we purchased at our own cost a new rod set which fixed the unbalancing problem, but not before the drum snapped the arm off of the drum unbalanced cut-off switch. A second rod set was fitted on 2015 to correct this issue again.

From new, it would take about 20 minutes to fill the machine with cold water. Replaced the cold water solenoid in 2016 at own expense which fixed the problem - now fills in about 6 minutes.

Today, 6 years after purchasing this machine and arriving home from holiday with a pile of clothes to wash, the machine decides it lose power and shut down mid cycle, with our clothes held ransom but the lid lock. It takes about 10 mins for the electronics to reset. After several attempts on different wash settings and readings reviews on this problem, we will now have to purchase a new circuit board for $200, with no guarantee this will fix the problem.

So disappointed with the reliability and design issues of this Simpson product. If we can't this machine for a reasonable cost - we may have to look at buying a new washing machine - although after this experience it may not be a SIMPSON.

Off balance – This is the worst washing machine we have ever purchased. Our Family has always purchased Simpson washing machines. Never again. Such a disappointment, I had wish I had have read all of these reviews before purchasing it, we stand more time standing beside the washing machine trying to balance it than it actually washing our clothes. They just don't make them like they used too – Bought this one after the last Simpson finally gave up cleaning clothes for a family of 5 (15+ yrs). Was OK to start with but eventually it would get unbalanced (towels, sheets etc.) and you would have to adjust the load to get it to finish the cycle. Put up with this but it got to the stage where if you were washing bedding or a load of towels… Read more

you had to sit by the machine and remove adjust items ( 6 + times to complete the cycle). Finally it gave up the ghost and wouldn't finish the cycle at all (even with light loads). Rang the repair person and on hearing the symptoms (and probably the machine in question) quoted $300 to fix. Bit the bullet and bought a new 8.5 kg latest model LG for under $700. -silence!

What are your favourite features?- The annoying alarm and the earth shattering noise and vibration as it tries to spin a load of clothes.

Tipped it over and found one of the suspension supports broken ($80 for a pack of 4 - you just can't buy one). Flimsy bit of plastic split!! They just don't make them like they used too.

I thought it was just me!! – Purchased in 2012 it has always had unbalanced issues but this week it actually wont finish the spin cycle as it continually goes of balance. I thought it was me, but after reading all the reviews I see it is a fault of the appliance. I am pretty sure I am out of the warranty period even though I purchased a 3 year extended warranty. Worst top loader I have ever purchased SWT954 – Wish I had read these review before I purchased the washing machine. Constantly the alarm is going off that it is out of balance!!! Can't even wash one doona cover. Driving me insane!!! Pointless if you have a large family and want to use it for the size it says it is. Also the way it spins it has rubbed on the edge of the tub and is now really sharp when trying to reach in to get clothes out and only 6 yrs old  Show details

does an excellent wash using Omo powder (supplied). Water use good. Yes it danced around when first installed and knocked sometimes when spinning rapidly.. I stopped that by placing restrictive side 1/4" slats to floor. End of dance! Knocks occasionally when spinning unbalanced load /heavy towels/work clothes - but I have no doubt if others spin as well as this they also would have some degree of knock.

12 MONTHS USE - No problems - Simpson Congratulations - an EXCELLENT washing Machine . . .Bernard

Error message E17 - PLEASE HELP!! – Hi We purchased the Simpson 9.5kg Washing Machine a few years ago and we constantly get a E17 error msg. This would occur at least 90% of loads we do regardless of whether they are big or small loads, bulky or light items. This is very frustrating and takes my washing way to long. Any advice to stop this error from occurring would be gratefully appreciated.  Show details
