Used review after a few years – These have been out of production for some time now. They come around as second hand. I purchased one in the great pre covid hail sale in Canberra. It was cheap at the time 50,000kms and $9k, not bad, a bit of mucking about to get it re-registered but turned out fine. This is the 1.2 turbo petrol 2wd pov pack, still got plenty of good bits,… Read more

bluetooth, cruise, leather steering wheel, alloy wheels etc.

Good points; engine, small turbo is efficient and quite frisky. Not a performance vehicle certainly but plenty of power for every day driving, and the power is where you need it. Supposed to run on 95 but runs fine on 91 considering fuel prices.

Quite a bit of space inside for a small car, the most comfortable seats I have ever experienced in a cheaper car. Handling is excellent, safe and can be fun, it is wide and boxy. Strong construction, plastic bash plates and higher ride height make it excellent for dirt roads or rough drive ways.

Steering and brakes are both excellent, vision outstanding, controls etc ok.

Not so good points; gearbox, dsg can be frustrating, some reviews have complained about turbo lag, it is not the engine, it is the slow witted gearbox. This is mainly on taking off, and if you ease it off the line then accelerate it will get going quickly. I cannot vouch for the longevity of the dsg, mine has 140,000km and is still ok, but just like a manual the dual clutches are bound to wear out sooner or later.

Servicing and parts. This is the bit they will get you. It does not require a-lot of servicing, every 12.5k and mostly just oil and filter, but if something else goes wrong then be prepared, in fairness all euro cars are like this.

So if you are a nanna or prepared to look like one this could be the car for you, I am the only other yeti driver I have ever seen under 75 years old.

Consider where you live as well as dealers are spread out and only in capital cities, although most vw repairers can do these as well.

Price is expensive on better ones, which is strange as they are meant to be vw’s cheap version, however in Australia skoda seems to have developed a snob value…

Thanks for reading

As of February 2023 at 160k the turbo failed. In Australia there are no aftermarket options. $2800 for a genuine turbo ona car worth about $6000.

Maybe avoid these things and buy a Toyota.

OK car spoiled by the gearbox – 2016 model now done 100,000 kms. Car rides and handles well enough, and the GPS/radio is one of the best I have seen or used. Nice tight turning circle, good brakes. Fuel economy is good on the open road, less impressive around town. While it says it only needs 95 RON fuel, I have heard the engine pinging with that fuel and so I now run 98. … Read more

Seats are mostly comfortable, see below for my complaint about the adjuster.

Car suffers terribly from throttle lag, turbo lag and especially gearbox lag. Trying to join traffic is frustrating to the point of being dangerous. It takes so long most times for the car to take off, then accelerates far harder than you intend with embarrassing wheelspin. So you accelerate before you would normally do so, and then sometimes it would actually accelerate when you depress the accelerator. Without doubt the most frustrating and annoying car to drive, totally unacceptable in a 2016 car.

The car shudders when taking off, and because of the turbo and throttle lag can be very slow before it suddenly takes off. Very rough. The gearbox developed a fault, although it manifested itself in trying to take off and the car simply would not move, and the engine would not rev. Skoda could not fault the car as nothing came up on the diagnostics, which seems to be the only way mechanics can figure out these days what is wrong with a car. Only when I showed them a video did they finally do something, after a long time, which fixed it.

The car then developed a knocking noise which would come and go under acceleration. Unfortunately, it could never be replicated when a mechanic was in the car and now the car is out of warranty it has become worse and more constant.

The door seal on the drivers side has worn away as you scrape it with your feet when getting in and out. Would make more sense to have this seal on the door. Wiper blades are unbelievably expensive if you use genuine parts. One very annoying aspect is that the adjustment lever for the front seats sticks forward so when you have your feet back near the front of the seat, the lever sticks into the back of your leg and is most uncomfortable. Also, the wipers will come on when you don't want, say when you sweep the rear window the fronts will come on.

If this car had a normal automatic gearbox, or possibly a manual gearbox and a bigger non turbo engine it would be a much nicer car to drive.

Check skoda specs thoroughly – Great car with excellent features. Problem is the one I bought has a timing belt. I was advised by skoda australia when buying new that it had a chain as do all petrol skodas since 2014.!!!!. All except mine perhaps and anyone else that has my 1.4 litre model. Skoda Australia have no idea. But they soon will. Fair trading have a way of making manufacturers understand their obligations.  Show details

We love our Yeti! – Very reliable car, good fuel economy - around 6.5l/km. Quiet and comfortable, both as driver and passenger. Removable seats are a great idea, and has heaps of leg room and head room. Love the dashboard display, and the satnav is excellent - chose this option rather than the carplay option as I have a very old phone.  Show details

Why replace perfection – Awesome functionality, brilliant design and execution of engineering. Brand new old stock TDI with 5 year warranty. I was hesitant to purchase a VAG product but now I will simply not purchase any other creams than SKODA. Totally awesome experience in ownership, and service fixed costs. Although there is s new model on the way I am so glad I have this one as new.  Show details

My awesome wagon! – What is there not to love about the Skoda Yeti. I believe it is outstanding value. I love how much I can fit inside it. The seats can be completely removed and it can act like a van too. I love the display screen with reversing camera and also the GPS. Customer service is top knoch too.  Show details

Skoda Yeti 2016 – Have driven the vehicle for 10,000 Klms. Am thoroughly pleased with all aspects of handling on road, wih fuel consumption (5.5 highway),. comfort and finish of the vehicle. It is not a big or heavy SUV - rather a small, easy-to-handle, easy-to park wagon, very suitable for 2-4 people. I like its distinctive styling and that, plus its height,… Read more

makes it easy to find in carparks. 1.4 turbo engine and 6 speed gearbox provide more than ample speed and management.

JUST LOVE IT – When purchased it had 3,400 ks on the clock and I was amazed by the power of the 2 litre diesel and the economy. Have been getting 700 ks to the tank around town and up to 900 ks on the open road. It is easy to drive and park, with front and rear senors and rear camera and a handy feature is the removable rear seats that can be whipped out in… Read more

seconds and the vehicle becomes a van. It also has a 4WD system that kicks in when the wheels start to slip in soft going. It is very much a VW by another name but it costs a lot less than a VW. The legroom is surprising good for a big person like me and I find access is relatively easy after a hip replacement. I am a great fan as the clock ticks over 20,000 ks.

Great Little Car – I replaced my VW Eos with this, partly as it was based on the same platform, with basically the same motor, gearbox, controls and even wheelbase. Although the ride is a little solid, similar to Eos, the handling is also similar to the Eos - neat and tenacious. The diesel engine, with heaps of lowdown torque, has planty of go, great for overtaking… Read more

on country roads, and also gets away well from Traffic lights. I have logged every tankful since new, and actual consumption over 55000km is 6.5l/100km.

The windows in the rear quarters are real, and you can see out of them, unlike so many SUV's these days, that I walked away from feeling that they were dangerous. The styling of the car may be described as "not Beautiful", but the Outdoor version with lots of blacked out bits including the wheels, looks pretty good to my eyes. It is purposeful and practical, and remarkable what you can get into it, given its compact dimensions.

It would be nice if the voice control in the audio system worked. I understand that there are not huge sales of Skodas in Australia, and the Aussie accent may cause a few issues, but being part of VW, you would think that they could use VW technology for this one. I am also waiting for a map update for the GPS, the current version is now 2.5 years old.

The car has been faultless to date, nothing has fallen off or stopped working - I think that I wasted my money getting an extended warranty, 'cos I don't think I will need it.

A few of the options available overseas would have been nice - I particularly would have liked the power front seats with the added adjustability, the same as my Eos had, it would have provided a driving position that would have suited me a bit more, although I am accustomed to what it has now.

Brilliant SUV – We had a Skoda Fabia previously, was really impressed with that, but wanted something a bit easier to get in and out of and so the Yeti was our choice as we are impressed with Skoda. Skoda used to have a bad reputation many years ago, but things have certainly changed now and we love everything about this car. Have the automatic, it drives… Read more

extremely well and changes gear very quickly, alternatively, you can even put it into a manual gear box or into sport mode if you do not want a quick gear change.

Certainly the power is there for a relatively small engine compared to other SUV's, has not problems whatsoever in the acceleration stakes.

The onboard computer does not house Australian maps, not sure if one can get them, we are going to look into that, it does have a built in gps system, but could be just to cater for the European market.

The back seats are a little bit short on leg length of the seat apparently, so a passenger commented once, but we love the fact that the seats can be moved and taken out if need be.

Wouldn't class the boot as huge, but if one requires more room, then it is easy to do by folding the seats down or removing them.

Brilliant fuel economy and is extremely reliable.

There was only a 2 x 4 wheel drive available when we bought this, but we are contemplating upgrading to a 4 x 4, whether we do or not, it really doesn't matter as whatever car we do get next, will definitely be another Skoda Yeti.

Efficient, solidly-built, reliable and oh so practical – I chose this car based on reviews from European sites as well as the excellent fuel efficiency and reliability specs. I carry a lot of tool and equipment in cases and the removable rear seats have proved very useful on many occasions. issues with phone integration. It's attractive, unique and comfortable while providing a great deal of flexibility. I never set out to buy a Skoda but ticking-off a list of requirements lead me to it and I'm now a huge believer in the brand and have since bought one as a company vehicle.

It's always good to stand out in a world of same-same Compact SUVs,

1.2TSI Petrol Turbo Skoda Yeti 2 – Bought this car in August of 2016. I have had several previous new cars, but none have come close to this one. For the money it's twice the car of a similar priced Kia and a cut above a Nissan. It only houses a 1.2 turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet but it manages to haul the relatively heavy car around with ease, and without breaking the… Read more

bank on petrol.

The automatic VW DSG gearbox is a gem, it's seamless in any circumstance yet still lets you know it's there. It quickly climbs the gears to save you fuel, and when you want to have a bit of fun, stick the selector in sport and it is happy to hold them gears much longer.

The interior of the car is as you would expect from a VW group motor. The fixtures and fittings feel well made, the Bluetooth infotainment system works without a hitch and the seats are nice and comfortable. The middle of the road model that I bought only had cloth seats and no sat-nav, but still manages to make you feel special every time you step inside. The dash is simple, with not so many buttons you don't know what to do with them, but just enough for everything you would need. There is acres of headroom and boot space and the rear seats move around in a variety of ways, enableing you to essentially turn the Yeti into a van if you want to.

We opted for the white paint job, which when clean looks brilliant, however, like with any white car, shows the first quickly. The styling outside is much the same as the old Yeti, with the nose, front and rear lights, and boot styling having an upgrade having a more modern feel that really suits the car. The doors are reassuringly heavy, and feel exceptionally well made, and the alloys are very well styled. If a little bit hard to clean.

On the road it hugs the corners, being a big car you would expect it to roll, but it doesn't, it doesn't make any fuss at even faster speeds, and gives you great confidence to drive it.

I'll be buying another once the time comes around again. Maybe not in white though.

Great little secret! – I used to own a golf and I'm originally from the UK. I have witnessed Skoda go from a joke to a serious player and all the while I've watched this manufacturer get better and better over the years. Skoda isn't well known in Australia which is a bonus for me. I bought the Yeti 81TSI with tech pack and a few extras at a great price and i must say… Read more

I'm very very pleased with it.

Handling is prefect and heaps of room for the kids. The best feeling is knowing you've found a gem that most of Australia doesn't know anything about and that suits me just fine.

Great Car – This vehicle has been excellent since purchase. One minor electrical issue has come up, message coming up on multi-display, however, this will be a minor fix. Fuel usage is a little higher than expected too, however, this vehicle has plenty of power and is fun to drive. I'd buy a second one if I had the spare money.  Show details

The best car I ever had – Compact and roomy at the same time. Fits everywhere and drives fast, especially with clever chip tuning. Economical and powerful. Good for family and business with the possibility of taking all seats out. Drives fast and handles as any VW. Solid and durable feel. Simple and clean interior, just as it should be. hate that messy futurism of other car makers.  Show details

Great Town Car – I love this car. I originally went to the franchise to buy a Focus. On the same lot they also sell Skoda. Well I had a good look and went inside and surprised the salesman. So had a good look at the range and what I really wanted was a vehicle that would be used as a town car, not too big, could put the dogs in for occasional trips but importantly… Read more

carry my golf clubs and not have a boot lip to lift over, and I can step into it rather than sit down. I scoffed at the sales dude when I asked the Kw power , 77kw 1.2 turbo. This won't do me. Anyway this car goes above the numbers. Pulses, great pulling power once going, love the DSG 7 speed box although it does take some getting use to. Handles like it is on rails. The sales guy who once raced cars scared the life out of me and has fabulous brakes. Skoda in general have a lot of minor quirks, like when you turn the engine off the wipers shake so that they do not stick to the screen. How weird. The biggest plus which surprised me more than anything is as a 6 foot 4 inch guy I can't push the seat all the way back, WOW. This is not a fast car so for highway touring I take the 200 kw 2015 Aurion. Minuses, hmmm not many really, the dash is a bit dark and makes some dials difficult to read. Storage comps are a bit small although the centre armrest slides to suit the driver. This car is made by the same group who make VW and Audi so there are a lot of similarities. In sport shift it will red line in 3rd at 140, it just takes time to get there. A 50 litre tank will get you 650 klms. Would I buy another one? That's the question really, as my daily driver absolutely, but the hoon in me wants more juice for the highway. May be an Octavia RS.

Bought It For My Wife. Now I Want It!! – I bought this fantastic SUV originally for my wife. It didn't take long and I fell in love with it. Now my wife can have our other car, diesel Subaru Outback (also excellent car by the way). We bought the entry level 1.2 turbo charged Yeti with a tech pack which gives it bi-xenon lights, superior sound system, GPS, keyless entry and self parking.… Read more ·  2

It came up to $29000 drive away. The car is, with the exception of dual air, packed with goodies including rear camera and sensors, front sensors, one can remove all rear seats to create a large cargo area, full on board computer, rain sensitive sensors, auto lights, to name but a few. The car is fun to drive. For its small engine it is surprisingly agile due its turbo. Another strong point is the eight air bags. Is it beautiful? Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love its unusual shape! We have a very attractive metallic jungle green colour. I have not given it five stars for couple of reasons. The side pillars are quite thick, obstructing a vision somewhat. Sun visors are too small, rendering them almost useless. Perhaps the biggest disappointment though is the petrol consumption, averaging about 8 litres/100 km around town. Premium petrol is required. But overall, this is a great car! Plenty of storage, comfortable seats, packed with technology. So far we have covered about 3 000 kms so obviously one would not expect any trouble. But judging from European reliability tests where Yeti ranked the most reliable car in 2015, there, hopefully, should be some years of trouble free motoring. I wonder when will the Aussies wake up to the magnificent Skoda cars!! Thumbs up, Skoda!!

August 5th 2017 Update: Bohemian Loaded With Technology

I bought this Czech little masterpiece for my wife two years ago. And so far no regrets. On the contrary. This is a cleverly designed small SUV with plenty of storage, ingenious seating arrangement featuring removable seats and the technology you will find in more expensive cars. But we should not be surprised for SKODA was founded in 1895 and is thus the second oldest car manufacturer in the world. Pity that the name suffered a blow under the years of communist neglect and mismanagement. However, the company, being a part of the Volkswagen Group, produces fine vehicles these days. They are refined and cheaper than the other European cars. We paid $29 000 which included the Tech Pack.

Our Yeti boasts an attractive jungle green metallic paint, is 1.2 turbo petrol, front wheel drive. As such it surprisingly quick off the mark, particularly if you select an "S" drive. Yeti offers an excellent forward and rear visibility which is enhanced by reverse camera. The car is loaded with technology: bi-xenon self-levelling headlights, LED day time running lights, front parking sensors, 6.5 touch screen, full trip computer, cruise control, digital radio, fog lights, automatic parking assist, satellite navigation, 17" alloys, 7 airbags, to name a few goodies.

The car is very comfortable to drive and has ample head and shoulder room. Due to its compact size, parking is a breeze. And, if you are brave enough, you can always resort to the self parking assist. The shape is funky and the car stands head and shoulder above the crowd although it is probably not exactly beautiful. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as we know.

Yeti's boot is not large but big enough to carry your golf clubs or shopping.

Because of its small engine one has to engage the turbo to get it going. The engine is matched beautifully to the seven speed DSG. You may select manual mode if you wish.

We have covered some 23 000 km since new, experiencing only one problem-faulty central locking, which was replaced promptly under the warranty by the Eastside Skoda dealer. Incidentally, we have had very positive relationship with this company. They go out of their way to satisfy you.

Although this is a pretty remarkable vehicle, there are few items that warrant mild criticism. The Yeti uses 95 octane fuel which is not cheap. Although it has a small 1.2 litre engine, it is not frugal. The average fuel consumption around town is around 8.2 l/100km. It improves on the open road. The best we could get was 6.5l/100km. Do not expect good resale value when the time comes to replace your beloved Yeti for another SKODA!!

I fail to understand why there are not more SKODAS on our roads. Must have something to do with badge and snobbery. Anyone who is still unconvinced about SKODA vehicles should have a closer look at such fantastic automobile as SKODA Superb or recently released SKODA Kodiaq.

A trusted quality Manufacturer – The re vamped 4x4 2.0 litre diesel DSG has not lost any of its charm and quality. The changes are suitably minimal to a car/SUV that was already a comfortable, quality vehicle. By its conservative European quality interior, to an excellent ride on and off road, it matches and surpasses other manufacturers newer models. Reliability plus and a definite pleasing factor when owning.  Show details ·  1
