Don’t do it, complete waste of money. Australis Solar installed this SMA unit in Sep 2013. It cost $16078, then, $9650 with gov rebate. It has only ‘saved’ us approx $6000 over 12 years. The unit, with a life expectancy of touted 25 years, is now in fault mode and not working. We contacted Australia Solar to organise a technician assessment and… Read more

are happy to pay for a site visit. They advised ‘its 12 years old, what do you expect’ and said the earliest that they could attend would be in 7 months time - which we all know means go away we’re not interested. Other companies we have contacted are all very reluctant to do any service assessments and all indicate that a full new install including solar panels is the best option. When you review the money outlay above - why would you even consider it!

SMA Home Manager stopped working in March 25, I thought it would be the power supply not the home manager itself. It's very hard & difficult to get installers to come to my location & as I discovered today, none want to touch SMA products anymore! I was speaking directly with SMA support when it first failed & with their help we were able to… Read more

determine it was either the home manager or the power supply. We changed settings on the inverter via my laptop to test the inverter itself, all was good with it. I am zero export therefore cannot put power back to the grid, we changed settings while doing the testing. When I connect the new power supply to the home manager it shows I am putting power back to the grid!! SMA are now refusing to talk to me to put it back to zero export

WARRANTY SCAM !! – Inverter warranty is only 10 years if you know that you have to register the warranty with SMA within one year of installation. I didn't know this. The advertising doesn't mention it. They refused to make my warranty 10 years. If you don't register in time, the warrant also starts when the inverter is sold to the installer, not when you get it… Read more

installed at your place. My warranty is under 5 years as my installer bought my inverter & it sat in their warehouse for a while. What a joke!

Useless – Made a simple enquiry to their enquiry page filling out all my details and themn get an email back. "Thank you for your enquiry. All written service communication has transitioned across to the SMA Online Service Centre https://my.sma-service.com. In order to proceed further with your enquiry, please raise a case on the SMA Online Service Centre… Read more

and SMA Service will get back to you shortly."

So what is the point of having a enguiry page if it just shoves it sideways to another page that does not have an enquiry section and why should i have to go throuigh the rigmorole of filling in another page?

Also pretty disturbed by all the negative reviews and zero response from SMA.

Wish I could rate lower – My inverter has not been working for 6 months. I have sent over 20 emails to sma customer service and they keep referring to the installer who keeps referring to sma. This is extremely poor, &, unacceptable service. Avoid SMA. My case number is 406718829 just by chance you read this review Show details

Faulty and terrible support – Our SMA Sunny boy inverter has a fault after 4 years. Installer was unable to diagnose as there was no to access without password which we had lost during a renovation. Very unclear technical customer support. requests in end via facebook messenger for support. Then set up a case number in SMA online help which had no response and then was then… Read more

wiped by SMA (without even being made a closed case). Installer managed to finally diagnose the inverter fault and 10 days since there is no ETA at all around when will be sent out. Over a month now without solar. Would not recommend this company at all.

Don’t invest in their Smart Meter! – SMA’s solar panels and inverter work perfectly. The costly smart meter, that I purchased in order to monitor input/output of power, is less than useless. Forever dropping out, I cannot use this piece of equipment for which it was intended. I could get no help from SMA’s technical support staff - none of them have any clue of even how to read the… Read more

instructions in front of them (on their computer screen, as I have no doubt that not one single support officer has relevant qualifications or hands-on experience with these devices).

I have spent almost as much money on having local service personnel attend to fix what was a simple problem as it cost for the “smart” meter. Then I had to have an ongoing fight with SMA to be reimbursed for six hours of call-out fees and labour.

I find myself in the same situation, yet again, where I cannot access the live feed of my power generation/usage, and I am past the point of paying for another technician to attend only to spend hours and hours on the phone with SMA tech support who only prolong the agony.

In all honesty, I wish SMA would send someone over to my house (free of charge) to remove the smart meter and refund the money I paid for it. When the time comes to refurbish my solar system, I will not be choosing SMA for any of it’s products… and there is virtually no after-sales service to go with it. I’ll find a company who truly values its customers.

Going strong after 10 years – Installed 1.5kW system in 2011. SMA SB1700 is still working properly 10 years later. Will replace it soon but only for a larger system. Show details

SMA equals rock solid reliability – As an invester I have made the decision to install multiple solar generating systems on my properties. I have always used SMA inverters and have found them to never fail. Recently I had been convinced to give Solaredge a try. NEVER AGAIN. The Solaredge equipment is unreliable and the after sales service abysmal. Stick with SMA it is stable and… Read more

long lasting. You want to experience reliability in your equipment. SMA will give you this. .....Solaredge will not.

Solar Power Pitfalls – Solar power investments require long-term timeframes to provide an economic return making warranty and aftersales service important ingredients in the decision-making process. Based on information received from a family member, who lives in another city, maximum yielding solar cells and with a high efficiency SMA invertor where installed,… Read more

selecting Solahart as the installing company.

On reviewing the latest electricity account, it was noted that the solar system had failed during the last 12 weeks. Upon contacting the local Solahart dealership I was advised that the reporting of the problem was outside the warranty period [regardless of when the fault may have occurred], and therefore any repairs would be at the owner’s expense, the cost of which would be hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

Dissatisfied with this response, SMA were contacted directly; the professional staff quickly reviewed the failure and advised that all replacement parts would be covered by warranty. On advising Solahart of SMA’s decision, Solahart refused any further cooperation.

Again, SMA’s professionalism responded, providing a list of locally approved installers for their product and advised they would pay the service costs.

Conclusion: in designing a solar system selection of product and installer are paramount to obtaining an economic return on investment; in this instance the increased efficiency and aftersales support of the SMA unit has more than offset the higher initial outlay. Selecting an installer is also most important and should be founded on local reputation.
