Double check what you are told – I am new to starting my own business. Contacted Smart Business Insurance (will be referred to as "Smart" from here on), spoke to a Senior Accounts Manager who seemed to know what I need and advised as an insurance broker, they can access insurance packages that an individual can't if they were to contact an insurance company directly. obtaining a quote from the Senior Accounts Manager, I contacted the recommended insurance company directly and was advised there are exclusions to the policy. I also contacted another insurance broker who emailed the same insurance company that "Smart" recommended and was also told there are exclusions to the policy. I re-contacted the Senior Accounts Manager from "Smart" and relayed the above information who informed me different brokers have different contacts with each insurance company. I requested what i was told directly by the insurance company and the other broker will be an exclusion but if i was to proceed with "Smart", the exclusion does not apply, to be put in writing. The Senior Accounts Manager advised she would email the insurance company and contact me the following day. When I didn't hear from the Senior Accounts Manager the following morning , I called and was advised by a third party who answered the call that the person i needed to speak to was unavailable. I left a message explaining the reason of my call and requested the Senior Accounts Manager to return my call.

Soon after I was provided with a quote from "Smart", for more than a week, I was receiving emails enquiring whether I planned to proceed with the quote. However, since I made further enquiries/clarifications about the quote, there has been no contact from them.

I am disappointed with my interactions with "Smart" as the Senior Accounts Manager sounded knowledgeable and professional. And as a new business owner, I was relying on other professionals' expertise to guide me. I am sooooo glad I did my homework to verify the information I was provided, otherwise I would have taken out an insurance policy with an important exclusion that could be detrimental to my business that I was not aware of due trusting the expert.

Update: The morning after my review was posted online, I received an email from "Smart" that their enquiry with the insurance company was probably lost due to EOFY madness. A later email clarified that the response from the insurance company confirmed that the information provided by "Smart" in the beginning was correct.

I wonder if it is too much of a co-incidence that I was re-contacted after my review was posted online and whether I would have received a response if I had not posted the review.

Horrible experience – Just 1 information regarding public liab limit but I had to go back & forth getting them to fix. Before proceeding with the insurance, staff was nice but when it comes to cancellation, staff was not nice. The fee is much higher than others. Feel like being ripped off.
