Thank you for that Catherine. Next year when the new models come out, will there be a 12volt reducer that people will be able to replace the D cells with or do they have to buy the new heater to get that luxury. Thank you David

Q1.Is the New smarttek going to have a flame safeguard on it so they can connect to caravans with bayonet fittings. Q2. Ifso can they be retrofitted to exiting gas showers. Thank you David

Smarttek
Smarttek   DM

Hi David, All Smarttek portable gas hot water units do need to comply with the Australian Gas Safety Standards (AS2658) and this will continue to be the case for any future models developed. If you would like to get in contact with Smarttek Support direct, please call Ph: 1300 119 906 or email support@smarttek.com.au so we can assist you directly. Kind Regards, Sarah - Smarttek Support

If a house gas hot water doesn't need D cell batteries for ignition why does the camping system need them couldn't it be connected to 12vbattery as you 12v for the water pump. Is there anyway to run it off 12volt maybe with a voltage reducer. David

Smarttek
Smarttek   DM

Hi David, Catherine here from Smarttek Support. Thanks for asking such a great question. The reason you need 2 x D'cell batteries for your Smarttek Hot Water System is because it is fitted with a gas safety solenoid valve which only requires 3volts of power. Using direct 12v instead would damage the electronics in your unit and the gas safety solenoid valve too. We are currently working on a converter that will allow you to do exactly as you have asked, convert 12v down to 3v for the unit to operate, thus removing the need for the D'Cell batteries. These will be available next year. Kind Regards, Catherine - Smarttek Support

I just rang Smarttek about the capability of my 4.3 litre pump. I was SO HAPPY with the attitude to my simple question which was how far could the pump do its thing. Answer: a 4.3 will happily supply a sink up to 10 metres away with a capacity hose of 8mm or less. THANK YOU SMARTTEK!!! Made my week...great start to the new year. :-) Pete

Hi Rick, Thankyou for contacting Smarttek Customer Support on Ph: 1300 119 906 for assistance with your unit and set up inquiry. All Smarttek Hot Water Units are operated by water pressure and are a low flow water heater. A Smarttek 4.3Lpm pump that was supplied to you with your Smarttek6 Hot Water Unit is designed to operate your unit on the minimum water setting and is to be connected to your unit with the supplied 8mm diameter hoses and supplied power using a 12v power source. Using your Smarttek6 unit on the minimum water flow can achieve up to a 42°C rise above your ambient water temperature. To use your Smarttek6 on the maximum water flow you will need to use a 6Lpm pump or click on your garden hose from the garden tap.

Brand new Smartek Lite, used about 10 times for less than 5 minutes per run. The pump cannot push water through the unit. A larger, higher pressure and flow pump cannot either. I've twice completed the 'contact us' form on the website and am yet to hear anything. Is there an internal filter? How is this accessed and cleaned? Why isn't this covered in the owners manual?

Smarttek
Smarttek   DM

Hi Peter, Thanks for your message. Please check the water inlet is plugged into the outlet valve closest to the battery box, if you have it plugged into the correct outlet valve please also check the gauze inside the water inlet valve if this is blocked it will prevent the water flow.

If neither of these work please give us a call 1300 119 906 we are available every day of the the year up to 7PM AEST we can put your hot water system in a test mode and be able to make sure it is functioning correctly.

Thanks Smarttek Australia

How do I adjust the temperature Of the water when it’s to hot

Smarttek
Smarttek   DM

Hi John, Thanks for your question. Here is the best way to set your temperature. 1) Turn off your gas bottle and run water through your shower head this will give us the “Starting Temperature”, lets say it is 20°c

Now we have the starting temperature we can turn on the gas bottle and lets do the following settings:

2) Turn the Gas dial to MIN and Water dial to MIN.

In Summer Mode you will get around a 10°c temperature rise which means if our starting temperature was 20°c then it will reach around 30°c, In Winter Mode on these same settings you will get around a 25°c temperature rise which means if our starting water temperature is 20°c this will make it 45°c.

If you are in the Winter Mode and you want the water a little bit cooler you can slightly adjust the water dial up a fraction. If you would like the water hotter in the Winter Mode you will need to turn the gas dial up but keep in mind Smarttek Hot Water Systems do have a temperature cut of sensor of around 52°c which means the hot water system will shut down if it gets too hot.

If you need any more assistance our customer support team is available via phone every day of the year unto 7PM AEST on 1300 119 906.

Thanks Again Smarttek Australia

So all of a sudden my smarttek black starts fine then when I turn the water tap to anything above ¼ it shuts off, no display screen. Once I turn it back to mim it turns back on again

Serena
Serena

I had all sorts of problems from brand new, they finally told me it works better with Duracell batteries, mine still plays up now & then when windy but over dealing with smarktek the other thing I do when playing up is turn it to summer & then it tends to work

Smarttek
Smarttek   DM

Hi Andrea, Thanks for your message. Your Smarttek Hot Water System has a water pressure switch inside. Min water is for the Smarttek 4.3lpm pump and the Max water is more for mains water or larger pumps. Being a low flow unit you will reach a max temperature rise of around 42°c in MIN water and only about 18°c in Max Water so running you Smarttek on a lower flow water will give you hotter water.

If you need any more assistance our customer support team is available every day of the year up to 7PM AEST on 1300 119 906 we are more then happy to help.

Hi im having problems with my unit not igniting, it will try to light once but after, it won't light. New batteries, etc.. I let the unit sit ovet night and it worked once in the morning but not again. Any ideas. Peter

Smarttek
Smarttek   DM

Hi Peter, Thanks for your question. All Smarttek Hot Water Systems use a dual pulse ignition system, so to operate the Smarttek Hot Water System all you need is 3 things, Gas, 2 D Cell Batteries and Water Pressure.

- Water pressure from a pump or home water will open the water pressure switch inside your Smarttek Hot Water System. - 2 x D Cell Batteries will provide 3 Volts to the gas safety solenoid valve.

First thing is, we need to check if the display screen is staying on or turning off. If the Display screen is going out we will need to have a look at your water pressure, Take off the water inlet quick connector and check for any debris. If there is no debris, check the pump is receiving 12v of power or test with mains water pressure.

If the lights are staying on the display screen and your hot water system is not igniting, it will be flat or damaged batteries. Smarttek conducted a test on 14 brands of batteries at the end of last year and found not all batteries are the same. Because we use a Pulse Ignition system which draws power on initial start up and we need the 3 volts to open the gas safety solenoid valve, If you have flat or damaged batteries this will also give you the symptoms you are describing. Batteries with a high resistance will effect how your hot water system operates. We have found the BEST batteries to use are the Activ Energy Batteries from Aldi Stores or Duracell Batteries, either of these batteries will give you a lot of shower time.

If you need any more assistance our dedicated customer support team is available every day of the year up until 7PM AEST on 1300 119 906, we are more than happy to help.

Thanks again Smarttek - Smart Hot Water Systems.
