5 years and it stopped working all together. Water not purging into hopper, contacted customer service with no luck. Also read other comments about machine and agree with design faults. Expensive unit, not worth the money. Did make nice coffee though Show details
The machine made drip filter coffee just fine but it developed an electrical fault after light domestic use for less than 5 years and stopped working. It's really disappointing that a machine about three times the price of a normal drip filter coffee machine doesn't last for very long. As it is out of warranty the only option we have is to opt in… Read more
to an 'assessment' by Smeg's only authorised repairer (Atlantin Services Vic) but looking at the Product Review page for this company it seems that the service is terrible. If you're looking to purchase a coffee machine I would recommend buying something more reliable and with better after sales service.
Bought the coffee machine in march 2025 And on 1 of January 2026 stopped working After 8 months, Still in warranty . That supposed to be a high end product? At least the price is at high end. Very disappointing… The coffee made was nice, I liked the strong option. Show details

Bought in May-2020. As a coffee maker it works very well - the coffee produced is good, the appearance is very pleasing, and it has been fun to use. … Read more
But the carafe is disappointing. We don't abuse it We wash it in soapy water in the sink, and take care with it. One point to note is the volume markings on the side wore off.
Feb-2023: The handle broke off whilst decalcifying over the sink. Smeg replaced the carafe after the handle broke after we contacted Smeg service directly, and they were prompt in addressing the issue to their credit.
The replacement had even more care - when we decalcify we would lift the carafe off with oven gloves around the body rather than use the handle. The volume markings again faded off.
Dec-2025: The handle broke again! This time whilst hand washing in the sink as usual. This is a common problem apparently. For us it is 1 carafe every 2.5 years of use. Not a good track record.
The risk of injury from scalding coffee or broken glass is worrying. In both cases we were lucky. However if pouring coffee or decalcifying at boiling point it would not be pleasant.
The cost of purchasing a replacement carafe is between $100 and $200 (depending on the supplier). That starts to make it uneconomic to repair considering the cost of the unit has a retail price of $319 (as of writing)
For context, we previously had a Phillips coffee maker that lasted for 36 years until the carafe was accidentally dropped.
It should be expected that the Smeg coffee maker to be at least as durable and safe to use. Perhaps a redesign with Bakelite like a mocha pot would be better.
The attached images tell the story - the first image is the original (it has the green plastic inside). The next 3 are the replacement - black plastic in the handle.
Follow-up · We contacted Smeg service with the review content (after 6 weeks) and received a prompt reply offering a new carafe. If you want assistance it may be best to contact Diamond service directly
Follow-up · We also decided to try a fix it with Bakelite handle (from ebay) on the broken carafe. That arrived today and with a little silicone sheet padding it has a new handle that will extend its life. The photos of it's new retro handle have been added. PM me if you want details.
Looks fantastic, brews the coffee well, flaw for me is that it only keeps coffee Luke warm for 60 mins, so if you want a hot second cup forget it, very dissapointing. Show details
Beautiful and efficient – Decent coffee machine if you like drip coffee. Keeps coffee warm too. I also have Smeg Expresso coffee machine and have been using it for 7 to 8 years now and love that one. Easy to use and not too many elements to worry about.
Turn of ‘keep warm’ setting – We just bought our new machine but we are having issues with the ‘keep warm’ setting. Every time we put it on that setting goes on automatically and we can’t actually brew the coffee. How do we turn the ‘keep warm’ setting off and brew the coffee instead? Show details

Good customer service – I bought it 17 Aug 2024 and encountered a few issues when i tried using it after reading the manual. Anyway, i tried calling SMEG service center and was told they only do big appliances, mine is small. Frustrated and disappointed, i wrote an honest review here at Product Review, described my problem with the coffee maker and submitted. Astonished… Read more
that Product Review chose to mediate and brought my concerns with SMEG who replied same day and we communicated through emails. I complied with all the information and requirements they need and sent them, and resolved the issue. In 3 days, i received its replacement. Thank you Product Review for mediating, offering support and assistance, and SMEG for your prompt reply and resolving my problem that quick. Very much appreciated. Good customer service assistance.
Frustrated early morning coffee drinker – After 8 months of having my beautiful coffee maker, the auto timer stopped working! Tried to contact your customer service team but after many attempts could not get through to a representative! Tried to email your customer support but never received any response! Not a good experience for me with your customer service! Love the coffee maker but really disappointed with your customer service!

Overpriced looks good but poor quality and design faults – On off switch failed, split in filter bag, water level very hard to read as condensation builds in glass. hard to fill with water as lid gets in the way. We purchased this machine as Smeg is a very well known brand, it was expensive but we have found its not worth the money.3 months old Show details
Had 2 years totally loved it until – Loved this coffee machine, great coffee, easy to use and clean. It looks totally awesome with its matching kettle, toaster, coffee grinder and milk frother. But the jug handle just snapped off , really disappointing after just 2 years very little use, always big a big Smeg fan but this is really disappointing Show details · 1
Overpriced mediocre quality capitalizing on retro looks – This appliance looks cool in the kitchen next to its sibling kettle and toaster, but that is where the redeeming features end. It only stays on for one hour, only does 5 cups of coffee and programming it to come on is a nightmare (lots of construction around = many power outages). This thing cost around $240 (AUD) when I bought it. The $70… Read more
Breville I've had and used daily for 4 years is so much better, glad I did not get rid of it as I feel it might be brought out again sometime soon. After a year, the handle feels like it is about to come apart (the carafe handle is loose and feels like it is about to snap off), right on time to coincide with the expiration of the 12 month warranty. Filling it can be challenging. As stated, it has good retro looks but functionally, it shows a cheap Chinese manufacturing attention (or lack of it) to detail. Save some money and go get the Breville, avoid this good looking retro inferior build gadget.
A life Changer – Works Perfectly and does the job. Coffee comes out perfect every time :) Its so easy to clean and you can have coffe by the press of one button. Not sure what the other buttons do though lol Show details

Love it but… – The coffee is great and the temperature is perfect… only problem is the carafe handle just snapped off… and a replacement costs as much as a new machine. So sad. Show details · 1
Great if you like cold coffee – I was so excited to be adding another Smeg appliance to my kitchen, but unfortunately this really just disappointed. The heating element is so poor that I actually thought I’d done something wrong. If you like cold coffee it’s a great buy! I like my coffee hot and this doesn’t do that. Show details

This is probably the worst decision I ever made – Had constant issues with the handle of the jugs cracking/pieces of plastic flaking off, making the handle unstable. Smeg sent me about 4 replacement jugs. In the end I gave up reporting it and just used a jug with the least broken handle and made sure I supported the jug with two hands. Then today - alerted to a sparking noise in my kitchen -… Read more
the machine caught fire. Lucky was on a pyrex board so didn't set fire to my bench top but was well on the way to an electrical fire when I switched off at the powerpoint. Of course the appliance is unsalvageable.
At over $200 for this appliance, I would save your money and buy a stove top coffee maker or something reliable. This lasted less than 18 months.

Slow and needs weekly descaling – I love the look of my smeg but unfortunately after a year of use it has decided to quit producing coffee properly. I have to descale it weekly so that it will drip coffee again as otherwise it takes 20 minutes and the coffee tastes burnt. Also the digital number in my product no longer work. Very disappointed as I also bought the kettle and roasted to complete my new kitchen. Show details

Poorly made: 4 cups doesn’t work – Coffee tasted great, but product is too faulty. 4 cups function doesn’t work — after a month of owning it, it simply stopped lighting up (and it makes no sense to brew a full pot all the time). Had it replaced with a new machine and after 2 weeks, same problem occurred — 4 cups didn’t light up again. I love Smeg and I’m devasted with not having my… Read more
machine, but for the hefty price it makes no sense to own a faulty machine. I really wish I still had my machine, but I can’t keep having to replace it when it stops lighting again.

If you love percolated coffee, this is for you! – I have bought a SMEG percolator and it's fantastic. Makes hot and beautiful coffee fast. Also keeps my coffee warm for hours. Very easy to set up, and awesome coffee! Show details
WAS in love but without a pot it's useless – I love all things SMEG and this machine was no different, the coffee was always perfect. The issue I have is that after a few months the coffee pot shattered while washing, which can happen i know! I have been trying to find a replacement pot for 6 months now with no luck (unless you want to pay over $120 ) which to me seems way too high for a… Read more
machine I paid $250. I was even ready to pay the extra money but so many retailers just don't have them in stock and you will be waiting months for shipment.
I'm still hopeful and haven't thrown out the machine yet!

Good looking coffee machine that makes great coffee – We bought this (drip) coffee machine as our old one (of another brand) broke. We choose SMEG as we liked the look of it and SMEG products are typically of good quality I understand (or I hope so anyway as the kitchen in our new house will have all appliances from SMEG). The coffee machine is easy to operate and has a few handy functions for… Read more
instance to change the aroma or allow a few cups of coffee only to be made. What I find particularly handy is that the machine has an alarm telling you when the coffee is ready (don’t have to check to see if it’s done, just listen for the beep). The coffee machine also has a timer which I use occasionally if I need to get up early and want to be on my way without having to wait for coffee. There is a little lever to the side to set the timer which I find working a lot better than the push buttons that are often used.
Now the most important part: The coffee this machine makes tastes great and the different aroma settings really do make a difference. Using the same brand of coffee and the same water to coffee ratio, the coffee does taste more intense and just better in my opinion (and that of my wife.... more importantly) than it did with our previous coffee machine.
I can think of only 2 downsides: 1) When pouring water into the reservoir the lid doesn’t open far enough so it’s difficult getting the last bit of water from the pot into the reservoir; 2) I’m not a big fan of the huge letters spelling “SMEG” on the machine...... this is of course very personal and others may like the look of it.
Overall we’re very happy with this machine; It looks great, feels like it’s made to last and the coffee tastes great too.
Poor quality of manufacture – I went ahead and bought the SMEG DCFO2CRAU drip feed coffee machine on line putting my trust in the supplier having bought from them previously and the item being Italian made should be of good quality manufacture. I find on opening it up it is not made in Italy but in a country that is known for poor quality products and am so disgusted I'm going to return it. Show details
