Rust bucket - APALLING!! – DO NOT BUY SMEG – RUSTING, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE & WORTHLESS WARRANTY! I purchased a Smeg Victoria freestanding cooktop and oven from The Good Guys, expecting a premium product for the premium price I paid—nearly double the cost of other brands. Instead, I got a product that, in under two years, started severely rusting on the exterior. This… Read more

is supposed to be a high-end appliance, yet it’s deteriorating like a cheap knockoff.

Before purchasing, I even reached out to Smeg directly to ask if there were any known issues, as I was about to invest a significant amount of money. Of course, there was no response—now I’m left with a rusting, unsightly mess in my kitchen.

When I tried to claim a repair or replacement through Smeg’s so-called “warranty”, I was flat-out denied with the excuse that “rust is not covered.” To make matters worse, I paid for an extended warranty through The Good Guys, which was utterly useless. So, in addition to being sold a defective product, I was also sold a worthless extended warranty that wasn’t worth the paper it was written on. Every time I use it and clean it the devastation is relived - hence writing this review.

Under Australian Consumer Law (ACL), a product must be of acceptable quality, meaning it should: ✔ Be fit for purpose ✔ Be durable and last a reasonable time ✔ Be free from defects

A high-end oven rusting within two years is a clear breach of these guarantees. I realise now that Extended warranties are often a scam because consumer guarantees under ACL apply regardless of any additional warranty you purchase. Companies should not refuse repairs or replacements for major failures like this.

Smeg and The Good Guys have both failed to honor their obligations under ACL. If you experience this issue, do not accept their refusal—lodge a complaint with the ACCC or your state’s consumer affairs body. I didn’t realise this was an option!!

Final Verdict – AVOID SMEG AT ALL COSTS! • Inferior build quality—rusting in under two years! • Warranty is useless—they refuse to cover rust, despite it being a clear manufacturing defect. • Misleading sales tactics—they’ll take your money but won’t back their product. • Extended warranties are a scam—Australian Consumer Law already protects you, but they won’t tell you that!

I regret this purchase completely and strongly urge others to avoid Smeg unless you want to throw thousands of dollars down the drain. If you’re considering a high-end appliance, go with a brand that actually stands behind their products!

Paid Thousands of Dollars to Cook on Portable Cooktops – I love the look of the Smeg Victoria 110 induction. I basically designed my whole kitchen around it, such is its beauty. However, the shine wore off after only 18 months when the paint started blistering and peeling. Every single panel had blistered paint and rust forming underneath. We called Smeg and they came to inspect and said it was probably… Read more

because we weren't drying it after we cooked. What?! They came to replace the panels, and the ones they took out of the package had even more rust on them! It was another 2 weeks before they could replace the rusted panels. We thought this was the end of our woes.

Fast forward 12 months and the main oven stopped working. No fan, no element. We had that replaced, and thought we were golden, however, 2 months later we went to cook some breakfast and the entire induction cooktop had stopped working. This was at the beginning of December. They have been out 4 times since and still cannot locate the problem. They have replaced all of the replaceable components, and it still doesn't work. We've now been without a cooktop for 7 weeks. We were meant to host Christmas, but without a working cooktop, we obviously had to pass the torch to someone else. We now have 2 portable induction elements on top of the Smeg, which visitors think is very funny. I should say that the techs that come out are very knowledgeable and hard working - but not able to fix what is clearly a fault in the system.

This oven has been a lemon from the very beginning. DO NOT fall for its classic beauty, you will only be disappointed. If I had my time over again, I'd pay the extra for an AGA. I'll never purchase a Smeg appliance again.

Continuing disappointment – I have posted two previous reviews of this TRA4110BL cooker ... we purchased ours in 2015 for just under $7000.00, all of the front panels have been replaced (as a goodwill gesture out of warranty), the grill and oven door seals have now been replaced twice. It is impossible to keep clean if the manufacturer's instructions are followed. Some of… Read more

the design flaws are not immediately apparent and take time to manifest themselves. As an example the clock display failed outside the warranty period, this is an expensive and difficult repair and the repair man who replaced all the front panels on our cooker (due to corrosion and thin enamel) advised me not to bother. He was of the opinion that power fluctuations caused the display failure and that most of the Smeg clocks end up like that. So using the timer function for the oven is not possible and this is something of an inconvenience to busy people. This week the thermostat on the main oven appears to be failing - everything is overcooked - again not a simple, straight forward repair. The cooker seems to have been designed for appearance, not functionality or maintenance. The cooker is installed in a brick lined recess over a wooden floor and our house is old. It is impossible to adjust the cooker level in situ and a very lengthy and difficult process to set the level correctly by moving the cooker in and out of the recess. I will have to custom make some self adjusting levelling devices - probably about 30 hours of my time will be required for this. The levelling set pins are too long and are not high tensile, accordingly they are prone to bending (adding high tensile steel would have added less than $2 to the manufacturing cost). The cooktop functions well, though using brushed aluminium for the burner surrounds was not the best design decision. In the past I have bought and enjoyed many Smeg products (fridges, dishwashers, ovens etc.) but I am questioning that brand loyalty now. Regarding the TRA4110BL, I regret that purchasing decision, I am unlikely to buy another Smeg cooker and I would advise others to consider their purchase very cafrefully.

Looks Great, Cost an arm and a leg, Terrible purchase, what a rip off! – No problems with the stove top part of this oven however the other problems started pretty much from day one: The light in the left hand oven never worked, called Smeg and they said they check the bulb (which isn't covered under warranty) to be honest I never bothered even checking the bulb as that oven only gets occasional use. It was just… Read more

disappointing the have this not working from the get go. More importantly parts of the display of the clock stopped working within the first two years, at first it wasn't too bad and clock still functioned properly (as far as controlling the right hand oven) however this got worse to the point where when the power went out recently we were unable to set the oven onto manual mode. The only way to use the oven is to set an auto turn off time (say for 60 minutes which allows 60 minutes of oven use). It's unacceptable in an oven at this price point or any oven for that matter to have an integral part of it's functioning stop working with less than 5 years of use. Also within the first two years the seal on the right hand oven ripped. For some reason condensation builds up inside the oven (when it is being used) and when opening and closing the door liquid drips down into the storage draw and makes it's way onto the floor, This problem was from day one and has nothing to do with the ripped seal, I have never seen this problem on any oven before. Again unacceptable for any oven! I have taken a back seat with this oven and it's issues as it was my partners decision to waste our money on this thing, so having roasting juices leaking onto the floor and through the drawer is a good reminder for her about what a bad decision this was. However with the recent power cut we had leaving us unable to use the right oven properly (see clock issue above) I have decided to act and i will be contacting you Steve (national service manager for Smeg) right away to try and get a resolution on this.

My partner was wooed by this ovens appearance (and everyone comments when they first see our kitchen) but i couldn't wish we had made a more sensible decision any more. We payed $6900 (with $1090 of discount) for this Garbage!!! A much better oven could have been had for less than $4000.

Follow up- Emailed Steve from Smeg, received a call the next day to book a technician to come and replace my faulty clock free of charge, technician arrived on time and replaced clock. my 2 stars for the oven stands however the service i received in resolving this issue was excellent.

Free Standing Cooker clock never worked!! – Fell madly in love with the shiny black free standing oven. Looks great and when it works, it's super. Thing is is that the clock has always been dicky and thus the right hand oven never really been used, and now after 4yrs the left hand oven has packed in. Out of warranty I know but to find out that the clock will cost over $400 and the part… Read more

for the left hand oven an additional $100 + is a real kick in the guts. This was a top of the range oven being over $6000 and to have to spend all this additional money is ludicrous. For a clock!!! I am now regretting being wooed by it's great looks and I'm deeply, deeply disappointed!! Apologies if I'm on the wrong 'product' forum :(
