18 months now only toasts one side at a time. Seems Bagel toasting switch has failed even though we never used it. Absolute crap for the price. We are building a new home guess what cooker or appliances we won’t be having in it.

Don’t buy it won’t last – I bought a set the toaster jug and blender as loved the look of them in my kitchen. the toaster only lasted 26months till it stopped working! Happy with the toaster, sad that it failed in under three years, but happy Smeg did the right thing – The central elements failed not long outside warranty but Smeg were prepared to replace the unit entirely- even though I had lost details on when and where purchased. Received the replacement within two weeks. So, good on Smeg to do this. Show details

Can not fault smeg service – This is a review for smeg after sales. We bought 4 slice toaster and did have an issue with one aspect of it. We contacted smeg. They were speedy in their response and replaced without question. Cannot fault them - email response prompt, delivery easy. Thank you

circuiting issue at this stage but having the same experience as everyone else. My question is what is SMEG doing about it? I would not recommend this product nor will I purchase another SMEG ever again.

Smeg service – Toaster was cutting power off circuiting . I contacted smeg and it was replaced with in days super fast service. I hope all the new ones now have had this problem sorted as seems to be alot of toasters doing this. Customer service was amazing . Hope the toaster is now the same again amazing . Thanks

Previously I had a cheap toaster, about $15 from Kmart, for about 10 years and only bought a Smeg toaster because I wanted a toaster to match my Smeg Kettle, but not the best move I see.

Before it would trip the circuit though, the bread would always get stuck, literally every time I toasted, very frustrating and even on the highest setting I would need to put the toast in twice to get some colour.

So disappointed! – My husband bought this toaster, I would never have after reading reviews. It lives up to its reviews!! Toast is burnt on one end and undercooked on the other. Poor review – Hello Review Critics - Bought our first Smeg Toaster - past 6 months burnt out the internal heating element(too thin wiring) on two toasters(last one today). Will be going off to Good Guys( Mornington) for replacement - requesting alternate brand of toaster- will check out thickness of internal heating wiring. Needs electrical review.

Terrible, do not purchase! – Beware! Beautiful looking but failed one week outside of the 12 month warranty period. Told by supplier that they can no longer be repaired. Now have a useless appliance! Disappointing!

Rubbish – Never buying Smeg again - first toaster failed after I year - got replacement from Harvey Norman, now second failed after 1 year. They also toast unevenly, shoot toast out and leave crumbs everywhere. same setting. If you want only one slice it throws it on the kitchen floor unless your standing in a good fielding position for the duration.

air. It was funny at first, but we often find ourselves having to look for the toast which is something I didn't sign up for.

Today we lost some toast after it fired some out and found it had ricocheted off the kitchen cabinets above it and wedged itself between the toaster and the wall. The toaster was flush up against the wall so that shows the force in which the toast leaves the toaster. Not great but for the price we paid for it we will deal with it.

If Smeg could bring the firing power down 90% and improve the consistency of the toasting then this would be a 5 star product.

will toast too light and sometimes it toasts too dark (almost burnt). Now I don't expect my bread to be toasted exactly the same each and everytime but I do expect a much narrower band, especially for the price of this unit.

The next big flaw is there is no way to raise your bread up slightly once you have completed toasting it. So if you are toasting a smaller piece of bread you have to stick your fingers in the toaster to get it out.

Finally and the most frustrating fault is that it springs up so hard when completed toasting that it sometimes launches your bread out of the toaster and if your lucky it lands on the counter but I have often seen it launch my toast up and onto the floor.

I am at the point that I just want to get rid of it and buy something else but my other half won't let me given how much we paid for it.

Do not buy is my recommendation.

EDIT: I have attempted to contact Steve C from the company as requested to do so in the comments below but I am still waiting for a response. It has been months now.

Disappointed – This toaster came with a hefty price tag but sadly didn’t last. Sparks flew out of my toaster after approx 2 years of having it and now the lever no longer stays in place. for 18 months. Definitely not value for money. The worst I've owned and I normally just use $20 ones from Coles or Kmart.

Cheap n nasty with a high end price – It toasts unevenly thanks to several elements not working from new, and dries the bread out more than it toasts. previous (much cheaper) toaster, the Smeg is absolutely useless for cooking crumpets. It’s only redeeming feature is the long slots. We got it via a rewards program. I’m glad we didn’t pay directly for it, or we would’ve felt very ripped off by such a poor performing product. We will not have another Smeg!

Faulty design – I had a faulty toaster replaced as after 6 months it started only toasting one side. 4 months later the replacement one did exactly the same thing. Harvey Norman were happy to let me get a different brand as I wasn’t interested in another Smeg as it seems to be a manufacturing flaw. total disbelief they replaced it no questions asked. I sent them the serial number and the replacement toaster arrived in about 7 days! Well done Smeg! That’s customer service! I have the kettle, mixer and the blender and the products are amazing.

What a pity – I absolutely adore my SMEG oven so I was keen to get my hands on the kettle and toaster. After only purchasing the toaster in May, one side of the toast comes up perfect while the other is barely touched. I now toast in my SMEG oven rather than the actual toaster. This is exactly what you get with SMEG such great quality products and a real Statement in any kitchen. I needed convincing from the wife, especially when you can pick up any cheap toaster at $20 from a discount store. You cannot go wrong with SMEG, BUT and this is more of a suggestion for the great designers at SMEG - Come on we bought a Black SMEG Toaster and guess what colour is the electrical cord.......grey yet every appliance we have on the kitchen bench has a black cord and not so noticeable. Please SMEG take this on board as constructive criticism and change your electrical cords to black, keeping all the focus on your beautifully constructed appliances and not on the grey cord. Anyway my 2 cents worth but again great products and worth every dollar.

Very Disappointed – Bought this and matching kettle from Harvey Norman. The kettle was replaced within 2 months due to a faulty lid, now the toaster is only toasting on one side. Great toaster – We purchase this and matching kettle for new kitchen over 12 months ago. While it is not a cheap product but it fits in with and works better than previous toasters we have owned. No issues with toasting bread or crumpets and defrost mode works great on frozen bread. Easy to clean and maintain  Show details
