Recently purchased the 4 slice retro toaster to replace my old Kmart one which I had for over 10 years and still worked well I simply wanted an update. How disappointed am I, it toasts unevenly, burns the crust and almost jumps out of toaster. I will be taking it back where I purchased it as $273 for a sub standard toaster is not on. I will be going back to my old Kmart one. Show details
Would not buy again – Bought toaster 2 slice tripped out electric after a couple of months....no 2 slice toasters available so had to settle for 4 slice the crumb tray is absolutely useless crumbs all over the bench would not buy again. Show details
2 toasters broke down in less than na year – Paid a bomb, first lasted 8 months before blowing up, Smeg replaced it, second lasted 2 months before blowing up, now no toaster at all.Been waiting for replacement 3 months, ( its in the post ) what a joke, we are back using a $15.00 Kmart toaster. Hey Smeg if you can not walk the walk, stop selling faulty products. Another 4 months waiting and… Read more
nothing from Smeg, still using the $22.00 toaster and the Smeg is in the shed. Smeg is a joke
It's now 6th of October and Smeg still saying its on a boat, we also purchase a blue electric jug and its paint is blistering of in big bubbles. Its a joke how poor the quality of Smeg is.
Now the 5th of November and not one message from Smeg, very sad Smeg
Just uploaded photo of how we use the toaster, we have to balance a heavy book on the leaver to make toast, we must watch until cooked or it will burn our house down. Our new Smeg jug has developed a huge paint blister, photo Att... Come on Smeg what is going on. Cane somebody help us please?
Kudos to Smeg for replacing my out of warranty toaster, great customer service – Love the colour and look of the toaster and toasts well Show details
Too many crumbs on bench after use it seems the crumb catcher is useless and the toast pops right out – Normal slice bread Bread does not stick Bread pops too high lands on bench Also have matching kettle looks great but not practical at all for the money you pay Show details

Warranty honoured, excellent customer service – Lovely and stylish toaster to go with my Smug kettle. The toaster unfortunately developed an electrical fault after a year of use, but Smeg honoured the warranty despite my not having a receipt of sale as it was a gift for my retirement. The staff were very understanding and excellent with their customer service and speed of response. The toaster… Read more
was replaced without question , with no fuss or charge, even delivery was free. Thank you Smeg for looking after your customers and reputation so well! Top marks for service.
Don’t buy - looks good but very short lifespan of both toaster and kettle in this range – Bought the matching toaster and kettle Oct’18, have already had to replace the kettle as it fused my electrics and stopped working and now the toaster has done exactly the same thing (centre element failed). As a trusted brand and expensive products I expected a far longer lifespan. Really disappointed. Do not buy this product. Show details

Expensive Throw-a-way NOT Repairable – Bought Early 2018. Center Toasting Element failed early 2021 (only 3 yrs of use). Item not repairable as no service parts are made available. Anyway Toaster designed and factory assembled (China) in such a manner (Multiple Bent Metal Tabs and Spot Weld) that its internals will not go back together satisfactorily (See attached Photo) should any… Read more
attempt be made at repair. Over engineered heavy metal cover (1.6 Kg) gives comforting illusion of quality. However send any post warranty (24 months) non functioning SMEG toaster to landfill. Then, as I did, go back to Harvey Norman and buy yet another rather expensive identical replacement (After all I couldn't have my matching Retro Pale Blue SMEG kettle and Coffee Maker looking out of place with anything else, could I?) TOP TIP: Fools and their money are soon parted.

Messy – The toaster is so messy. There is always crumbs everywhere underneath, it’s like the crumb catcher doesn’t catch the crumbs properly. I also feel like it takes far too long to toast. The plus side is that it looks great. Show details
Perfect for squat loaves – I'll be honest, I'm superficial and I bought this because it was cute. It's more expensive than any toaster has any business being; it's exactly not a complicated device. Also I really wanted something with a long slot to toast the squat flat type of loaves my favourite local baker makes. The slices are too long to fit in your usual toaster… Read more
without one end sticking up out of it, not getting toasted. And the griller in my oven is bloody awful, but that's another story.
It's a bit of a hulk, this toaster. Quite bulky. It does look great though and the retro style suits my kitchen.
It can toast just one side for when you're doing crumpets or bagels.
It does both sides evenly, the timer is reliable. It has spit toast out once or twice but I can live with that, it's so cute.
I have learned in the past that it is possible to sell something that calls itself a toaster but can't quite get the job done properly. You'd think it's a pretty simple task, turning bread brown, but people are creative when finding ways to screw stuff up, or, more likely, completely cheap out on production but still charge the consumer top dollar.
I'm glad my one still does what it is supposed to as it is definitely the most attractive toaster I've had. Luckily I haven't had the issues some other reviewers have had; it's good to see from some of the responses that SMEG have stepped up and replaced the faulty ones, even out of warranty. For the price it's reasonable to expect it to be able to evenly toast bread for a verrrrry long time.
Lastly, maybe don't put instructions to register your warranty online in the box, when there is no online registry for toasters.
Please Do not buy – Bought my smeg toaster in December from Myer. Been working perfectly fine and makes perfect toast when it's actually working. Today, when I wanted toast real bad, the toaster would not work. It's less than a year old. I m lost for words, lasted less than 9mnths. For its price u would think it will last a life time. Great! – This is a great toaster, looks great, toasts great. You do have to play around a bit to learn what setting to have it on for how you like toast, but it toasts evenly, not noticeably long, toast doesn’t jam or pop up excessively. I’ve used normal bread and bagels and muffins, but when I’ve used fruit bread you do have to turn the browning down. It’s a great toaster! Show details
Good toaster does job – I have had none of the problems mentioned in other reviews here. Seems to toast evenly with good colour. Like that it is simple to use and does job - really what I want in a toaster. The instructions also recommend that you clean out the crumb tray after every use. The tray does look like it would fill up fairly quickly with crumbs and cause a… Read more
short if you do not clean it. As my last toaster a Breville packed up with an unexplained ‘electrical fault’ I have been doing this religiously and it appears after 6 months that I have had no problems with reliability. I wonder whether this might be the cause of the problem for others here too? Maybe my Smeg will fail too but it hasn’t yet. Will keep you updated if it does. Update July 2019. This toaster is still going strong. Good toaster - important to keep tray clean..

Excellent – I got my Smeg 4 slice toaster through flybuys last year and I can’t find the paper work for it but it would be lucky to be 12 months old.I love the look of it and how it cooks my toast but now it just stopped working and you can’t push the bread down in it without it cutting my power off all the time. For an expensive toaster I thought it would of… Read more
lasted longer.I have been in touch with smeg and they have sent me a replacement toaster without any hassle.I can’t thank them enough
Looks good but thats it – So cheaply made that when the toast pops , usually with burnt crusts, it pop right out of the toaster with a clank! It certainly is retro , like going back in time , nothing modern about this toaster, no smooth rise up and down , no fruit bread setting , constantly having to look to see if the toast is burning because 3.5 is too light and 4 is… Read more
burnt. Bread comes out dry and unenjoyable. Toast is my cheat food in the mornings and this toaster is ruining it for me! But I like how it makes my kitchen look so ....
P.S this toaster has nothing on our old Breville which cooked toast really well with lots of options and smooth working mechanisms and gently beeps to let you know your toast was cooked when you have nicked out of the kitchen for a sec. Very disappointed as thought I was buying a high end brand not a Kmart rip off.
The two stars is for the choice of colours and style of toaster.
Sparking toaster – I bought the Pastel blue 4 slice toaster and kettle just over 2 years ago. The toaster keeps sparking and causing the circuit to switch off. The paint on the kettle has bubbled and split causing it to peel. I have had no problems with evenness of toasting. I paid extra because they are such an attractive design but am a little disappointed they haven't lasted any longer than a much cheaper brand would. Show details

Nice design but poor quality – Terrible toaster. Just 2 years of infrequent using. It stopped to working. It looks nice but unevenly cooked toasts and stopped to work at all. Unfortunately have to buy the same as all our small appliances in our kitchen of this design and color. We are very disappointed about luxury Italian brand. Show details

Looks good but bad quality – Wrote a review about kettle also which is terrible quality. Expect better from Smeg. Toaster had to be returned 10 months later with little use as the lever would not stay down so had to hold it down to toast. Also toast pops up so dramatically my bread always goes flying out... not ideal. How is it so easy to mess up a toaster when your paying $300... go to Kmart instead. Show details

Kitchen Art – Of course you can find cheaper toasters than Smeg, but as my father used to say: buy cheap, buy twice. I have a pair of RM Williams boots. They are now 15 years old. They cost me over $250 way back when and now to replace them it would cost me nearly $500. Have I had value from them? Yes. Do they look good? Yes. And the same goes for Smeg. Part of… Read more
the reason we buy a coloured toaster from Smeg is that we want something that looks good - anyone that says they bought a Smeg because of its performance alone is a liar . And why not have something that makes you feel better about yourself? On the subject of toast, the Smeg performs well. I am dark and crunchy toast guy and my wife prefers it the way normal people eat it toast, but in both cases Smeg works well, and 'yes' you can toast more than just bread with it, and 'yes' it has reliable variation settings, and even if it didn't you'd still buy one because their just so very, very pretty.
Disappointed – I tried four toasters from cheapest to most. expensive None worked perfectly.i sent all back and decided to try Smeg as it looked so lovely. I loved the look of the pale blue smeg but it has never worked perfectly and now only seems to toast 1 side. It's about 2 years old now and at least it hasn't sparked or stopped working completely.i have to… Read more
watch it and turn it and never know if it will suddenly burn the bread black. how come we can send a man to the moon but can't make a toaster work? I'm heartbroken as I love a beautiful kitchen appliance. I'd love a matching toaster but don't dare try one. I can't remember when I got it.

So pretty – Love the look of this toaster. It's great too. Roasts evenly. kind of dries the bread out a bit but nothing too bad. The only thing I wish it did was beep when finished although I think it's personal preference for that. I just forget I have toast going and so I end up spreading butter on cold toast Show details
