Great for the 12 months it lasted – This significantly reduced my hair growth and my need to shave. However it only lasted for 12 months before breaking completely. No repair service either. Show details

Broke – It soon stopped firing no matter what the lighting conditions. Not that it worked before. Just go get proper alexandrite laser or the like. Show details

Poor quality product. Very expensive. BIG FAIL – Activation button stopped lighting after being used few times , Maybe 10 times. Contacted smoothskin.com they offered no advice or help. Paid a lot of money for a product that is going in the bin. Show details

It works better than the Salon's for me – I have spent a lot of money at the salons with no results. This does work if I use it regularly but I get lazy. However I have had a huge reduction that has lasted over the last couple years Show details

Waste of money. Stopped working. Used Jess then 10 times – Used for a year after buying approximately 20 times. Does slow down hair growth a bit and hair grows back softer. Left it in cupboard for a year then decided I would use again- nothing. Sensor comes on but no lamp activity whatsoever. Support next to useless as warranty out and no option to repair. Absolutely biggest waste of money. Save your $300 and spend it at a salon instead. Show details

Not working – I bought the Smooth Skin Bare 1 and it worked for the first 2 years, although I still had to shave but it was less often, then within a month of the 2 years being up,and warranty ending,it stopped working. It powers on,but red light on the activate button continuesly flashes red and if I do push the button nothing happens. Very very disappointed as this was not a cheap product to buy and I rarely spend this amount on myself. Waste of money. Show details

Fan faint after 7 months – Bought the Smoothskin Bare $299 as it was suppose to be faster than the Philips one I had. It was great at first, after 7 months, the fan was very faint. I took it into Shaver Shop at Castle Hill and Sara said there was nothing wrong with it. Hardly used it and now the fan is faint still but very rarely zaps and no heat. Smoothskin asked my to… Read more

video the unit which I did. Smoothskin advised there is a fault and told me to take back to Shaver Shop but Sara advised that they are not doing anything as it's 5 months out of warranty. Waste of money. Shocking service from Shaver Shop and Smoothskin. As the ACCC writes Businesses that sell goods guarantee that those goods: are of acceptable quality. This definitely was NOT.

Rather Unused – This was sold to me with a promise of faster charging/flashing, thus a faster session time. For the money spent, it was rarely used after underwhelming results in 8 weeks. Now, after minimal use, it doesn't work at all a few years later. Show details

Red Light Flashing not even a year – I too have experienced the system failing after turning on. I am really disappointed at the price I paid i expected it to work for many years. The shaver shop said it would last at least 10 years before purchasing another one. I am so upset that it is a fault of the system and nothing has been corrected. That is really sad that the future… Read more

generation purchasing this product will never pay the high price. So , to all of you writing about the failure of the system you are not alone and it is definitely not the user .

Unhappy Smooth Skin customer – My first Smooth Skin Bare worked great for the first 3 years, after which it stopped zapping. I eventually took it into a Shaver Shop and was told the sensor probably had gone however they were unaware of any authorised repairers and I would need to contact Smooth Skin direct. Which I did, and was told to take it back to where I bought it, The… Read more

Shaver Shop. So with no luck, finding help to get it repaired I bought a new Smooth Skin Bare Plus. On it’s second use, the device stopped working with red lights flashing. The only way to get it working again was to unplug it from the power source and start again however it only lasted a couple of minutes before stopping again. I left it a few more minutes before turning on however same problem continued. As I had no issues with my first Smooth Skin Bare, I knew something was wrong and returned to the Shaver Shop with it. I had to demonstrate In store to the store assistant that it was not working properly and within 10 minutes it had stopped working. So it got replaced with a new Smooth Skin Bare Plus. Got it home....same thing happened! But this time it only lasted 4.22 minutes before it stopped working with red lights flashing. And it continued not working. Again I returned to the Shaver Shop. Was made to feel I was the problem and not the machine as no one else had returned their Smooth Skin Bare Plus’s. I received a full refund from the store. There is something wrong with the new model Smooth Skin Bare Plus and I do not recommend.

Has worked very well – I am very hairy, with dark hair & pale skin. I've been using this device for 3mths. My bikini line and belly has all but stopped growing & approximately 60% of the hair on my legs has stopped. My underarms are a little tougher, with only about a 20% reduction. My moustache and chin are also a little more stubborn, but there is a difference. I… Read more

would definitely recommend, but, you need to be realistic what results a home lpl will provide. I will likely finish everything off with professional laser after 6mths.

Rubbish – No results seen after using it IAW the instructions. Rubbish customer service in the UK. Rubbish customer service from the shavershop. I purchased the product and came with a 90 day money back back trial. I’m still waiting to see that money. Don’t waste your money, pay the professionals for actual results Show details

I think it works – Initially I ordered Babyliss Homelight Connected IPL Long Term Hair Removal System for $99 from the Shavershop during Black Friday sale, but as it wasn't available due to overselling, eventually I was offered this device for the same price. The device is very easy to use and nice to handle. I used it only 3 times so it is a bit early to say if it… Read more

is efficient or not, but I definitely noticed the reduction of hair growth density.

The packaging, or storage box, is not very convenient. I also don't like the length of the power cord leading to power adapter, it's too short.

Absolute rubbish – RUBBISH. UK customer service is rubbish. You will never get your money back. Does not work for anyone i know that has tried it. None of my friends of family. Waste of time made my hair growth worse

Started to work well then stopped – I have been using this every week for over 6 months. After the first 6 weeks I noticed a big change in my hair growth; however the hair growth has gradually increased and although softer and lighter, there is definitely more of it. I think the light is just not strong enough as I've had professional laser treatment in the past that worked well. I… Read more

zero results – I have pale skin and dark hair and used as recommended on instructions - used it for 2 months now and noticed no difference at all. Not even a slowing of growth let alone permanent results. Still within 90 days so will be returning it.

Doesn't work on light coloured hair – It's doesn't say so on the outside of the box that it's not suitable for blond hair, you have to buy it & then find out. Then when I tried to return they said it was too early to return (less than 70days), then I called a day outside the 90 days and it was too late to return. What a joke $400 down the drain

My expectations were too high – Bought this after lots of researchers online and thought I would be saving money as my husband could use it as well. Used once a week as recommended and after the amount of weeks needed for the treatment I had much less hair and that felt good. But then once I've stopped using it, as the treatment was finished, the hair was back again. Disappointed and I'm now considering paying someone for the laser hair removal.

So far, so good – I have been using this baby for about 3 months now, on a weekly basis and I have found that, although the hair is still growing back, but over a longer period in and patches and very fine. I did have to buy LPI goggles as the light hurt my eyes but overall i think it is the best purchase i have made to date

No noticeable results – I have dark hair and pale skin. I have been using this every week for over 2 months and have seen no results. I will continue to use it because it was so expensive and and I still have a small bit of hope that it may end up working a little long long term.

LOVE IT! Fantastic results after only a month, but it isn't for everyone – I went into the Shaver Shop for their post-Christmas sales to pick up a heavily-reduced Remington but ended up checking the newly-released Smoothskin Bare instead for $399. Firstly, you need to know that home IPL only works if you have dark hair and skin that isn't too dark. The fairer your skin, the better it will work. In a non-scientific… Read more

nutshell, the light that is pulsed is within a range of wavelengths that targets dark pigment. So, it will not work on blonde, grey or red hair. The light can also target dark pigment of the skin so you need to use lower power if you have darker skin, or if you are tanned, or you can end up with skin damage. You can't use fake tan either.

The Smoothskin Bare doesn't have power settings like other IPL devices. I actually see this as a bonus. It operates at a fixed lower power and basically will be safe on most skin types (except very dark). I have very pale skin and black hair so I could buy and use a higher-power machine, but I feel safe with the lower power. It will eventually have the same effect, but will take a few more treatments over a longer period of time and that's fine by me. Apparently the machine does detect skin tone and won't fire if your skin isn't suitable.

Unlike other machines, it is incredibly simple. It is shaped like an electric shaver / epilator and easy to hold. It has a long extension cord. I LOVE that it isn't cordless. With the length of the cord you can use it anywhere (on your bed, in the bathroom) and you don't need to worry about running out of power. It has unlimited flashes on the bulb unlike some units where you need to replace the cartridge (and this can be expensive). The unit only has one button. The light changes colour to let you know it's good to go and you just press the button. You can use the unit two ways - if you press and hold the button you can glide the machine and it will keep flashing (great for large areas like legs). You can also press and release the button which is great for "stamping". That is, position the unit, press the button, move the unit, press the button. Great for areas such as face, underarms and bikini line. Because the machine is a little lower in power it recharges quickly and can flash just about continuously. This means it is FAST to cover all areas. They say it takes 10 mins to do legs, bikini line and under arms which is about right. Probably takes me around 15 mins but I do take it slow. It is a little tricky to know if you've missed a spot, or if you've doubled-up (same as with any IPL machine).

You need shave the hair for this to work. If you don't, the unit will burn hair above the skin (which will smell terrible) and not burn down to the hair root. You have to wait at least a month after waxing to start. You can't use any other method of hair removal other than shaving during the treatment (but you can shave as often as you like between sessions which means you don't need to let the hair grow). The treatment is as follows:

-Shave the area and make sure it is dry

-Press the unit to the skin

-Treat the area either by gliding or stamping the unit, press and hold for glide or press and release for stamp

-Repeat treatment weekly for 12 weeks

That's it! I found it to be just about painless. I couldn't feel it on my legs, but on some areas of my underarms and bikini I felts a slight, very brief burning/stinging sensation but it left no red marks or damage. Way less painful than an epilator or waxing underarms. Apparently the hair falls out after a week or two (I haven't really noticed). It doesn't happen immediately.

I am slightly concerned about the effect on eyes, I wear sunglasses (which are not approved for use with IPL/laser), close my eyes AND look away while pressing the button. I think buying a pair of proper protective glasses would be wise.

So....the results. Bear in mind that an IPL machine will NOT get rid of 100% of the hair, but it does promise "permanent hair reduction". If you want 100% smooth you would probably shave now and then. You do need to do top up IPS treatments every 6 months or so after the initial treatments but it's so quick and easy it's not a big ask.

I've been using the unit for a month with weekly treatments and here's what I've found:

Underarms: Virtually all hair gone. I will keep going with treatments but could easily go weeks or longer now without shaving. Big bonus is armpits are lighter coloured as you don't get the "shadow" effect of hairs at the surface of the skin you get with shaving. Looks great (well, if armpits ever look great)

Legs: Probably 70% gone. The hair that is still growing isn't coarse or stubbly and is reducing all the time. I could neglect shaving for quite awhile and no-one would notice (unless they were very close). It is easier to miss spots on the legs when you are using the unit (which you can grab next time), and if you have some blonde hairs they won't be removed. No shadow / dotty effect of hair stubble in the skin that that you get from shaving. For 100% silky smooth you would probably run a razor over your legs for special occasions. I'm expecting more results as I've got 2 months to go on the treatment.

Bikini : Not brazillian, I've just been tidying. Areas I've previously waxed are just about hair free. Areas not previously waxed have reduced noticeably but more slowly and will take another month or two to see full results.
