Don't Waste your Time – Our experience is similar to other 1 star ratings. Right from the start the warning signs were there. *Old mate would not answer the phone when we needed support in installing. *Header tank leaked because round tank + screw fitting , destined for failure *Summertime - tank boils itself continuously all day. Losing estimated 30l per day *Wintertime… Read more
- almost zero solar heating. Booster on all winter. *Looks like he's closed the door. No spare parts ie element .
What I should have done. Either , system like an Apricus with the solar system on the roof and the tank on the ground with circulating pump , or even better get something like at least a 5kW PV solar system and run your hotwater system on a timer or similar through the day.
Don’t bother – Solar oz glass tube 220 litre with woodfire hookup. Good price. Works well but leaks after a year and a half. Can’t contact solar oz on any number. 10 year warranty ? Don’t think so. Feel ripped off I would not recommend to anyone Show details
Poor quality – Had Solar Oz evacuated tube roof mount hot water system installed July 2016. Has worked great but tank is now leaking and can't contact company, phone is disconnected and owner doesn't answer calls. My distributor here in Western Australia has had problems with the company and quality of product and poor backup. He no longer is in the industry but has offered help. Great idea but not this company. Show details
Solar oz failure – In February 2018 purchased a 220 litre solar hot water unit from Solar Oz. rang first to see if house facing northeast may be a problem, was told it would be fine. Assembled unit and mounted on roof. Local plumber came and connected the unit for us and electrician wired it in. First day a 10 minute shower and water gone cold. Second day same… Read more
result. Next day up on roof to increase the electric heater element setting to75 degrees, shower marginally better. Following day noticed that at 1.30 in the afternoon the hot water cylinder was already starting to throw its shadow over the evacuated tubes! Rang [name removed] was told it should still be ok and that it must be something else causing problem. Could be pressure reducing valve or maybe I need to put lagging on the cold water supply pipes or it could be Tassies cold weather that’s causing the problem he says! Rang plumber in Launceston who had fitted a couple of these units and was told told that this unit may only give 10 mins of hot water and then would need time to reheat the cylinder ,because of the heat transfer system used and that if we wanted more hot water maybe we could use the solar unit to preheat A gas hot water system (WHAT??? Ring [name removed] again on my wife’s phone after no pick up from several calls from mine. [name removed] tells me local plumbing agent will be in contact. 3 weeks later still waiting. Could not, and would not ever recommend this solar unit or this company to anyone. The help you hope to receive after purchase is almost non existent. Our old Rheem 165 litre tank delivered double the amount of hot water than this unit. My wife and I could both have a shower before going to work before but not any more.If you are looking for a solar hot water system don’t get caught like we did, look elsewhere. We are so disappointed and feel like we have been conned. The advertising says the unit is suitable for a family of 3 adults and 2 children, and yet cannot provide for a family of 2 adults who are careful with their usage. If we had our 2 children staying with us (now left home) we would have no choice but to get rid of It and go with gas or electric or a solar system that actually works. Now we live with the embarrassment that when people come to stay with us for a few days we cannot offer them a hot shower when needed and we live with the embarrassment of people saying see you’ve got a new solar hot water system, is it good? solar Oz, One expensive, stressful Solar failure!!!
April 3rd 2019 Update: Try getting parts for your solar oz unit.!Good luck with that!!!
In Feb 2018 we installed the 210 litre 24 tube system. After all the original problems with the unit as stated in a previous review,we then went on to have problems with loud banging noises from the unit in summer, water spewing from the unit onto the colourbond roof, a failed thermostat and a blown electric heater element. The most recent problem was the thermostat and element. Tried to ring the solar oz phone number still listed on their site only to hear that I was unable to be connected to that number, after trying several times without success, I then tried to ring the Tasmanian representative listed on the same site. This time the phone rang out with no message bank! Next I rang Pivot Heating in Melbourne. They had an advertisement listed on their site which clearly showed a solar oz unit. The lady I spoke to was very helpful, but went on to say that they also had been unable to contact anyone at solar oz for replacement parts! Having no hot water, we were becoming desperate so we took the faulty element to several local plumbing outlets to attempt to come up with a different element to do the same job, eventually we were lucky enough to find one that we were able to adapt. This time we were lucky, next time??? The whole Solar oz experience has been atrocious from the start. Problems from day 1. No help or assistance with issues, no help with problems that should be warranty, unable to get spare parts through dealer, and now unable to even contact anyone!!! Don’t get ripped off by this company like we did, go elsewhere for your solar unit
Don't waste your money on Solar Oz – Purchased a 24 tube system in 2013 and had issues from day 0ne with it spitting water out. Contacted agent who says take some tubes out how many 12 he says so up on roof take out tubes, then get a rainy day no hot water this is summer by the way. Now winter comes guess what back up on roof put tubes back get a hot day and we have water running… Read more
down the drain, when on tank water this is not good, so contact agent again and he says change pressure relief valve, not we will come and have a look. The thermostat is leaking I contact agent again he says yes there is an o ring this needs to be replaced so he will post one out. I need to get up on the roof again, this is not great service I Think Not, while I am up there I notice water leaking at other end of tank, so I contact agent again he says take out tube and see if the socket is leaking so back up again yes had 5 leaking so he says will post some up. I asked what about fitting he asked if I could do it said what if I fall off roof who is going to cover me then he said get plumber and send him invoice not he will arrange plumber and after all this the hot water in winter is 37 degrees at tap at 2pm on a nice day. We have to use the booster almost every night for a shower we don’t even use the hot water tap for washing up we boil the kettle so this is Not a good money saver. The after sales service is next nothing all they can do is blame valves and pass it off so save your money DON’T buy one of these inefficient systems
hottest hot water ever – 10/10 to rod and his team . great product helpful with advice great system in fact have not even hooked it up to electricity yet and probably wont . great quality product , very happy .
Solar Oz Hot water system problems – Purchased Solar Oz hot water system installed on roof by plumber Northern NSW plenty of sunny days had problems from on set insufficient hot water. Loud banging noises in the middle of the day. Overflowing run off excessive amounts, electrical back needed any cloudy day and in winter still cannot deliver enough for 2 showers (no cold mix to… Read more
adjust needed) we purchased unit sufficient unit for 4 persons. I am working away, so only 1 person. No excessive water devices e.g cold used in washing machine. Have contacted agent who supplied, little interest shown all theories put forward including having to access the roof and put covers over some of the tubes during summer months - not a viable option on a 2 storey house when nearing retirement. Have had different plumbers look at the system. I have been patient and gone through a full season I believe this unit is not fit for purpose as advertised my next option is to remove and discard system.
I could not recommend this to any one nor the gold coast. Agent who supplied and has not responded to my last correspondence. My recommendation to any one looking to use solar, bypass this product don't waste your time and money and be left with problem on your roof.
