Sonos Arc

The Sonos Arc when it is set up and working is an excellent product. However, it has the most frustrating user experience of any electronic device I have ever owned and I’ve owned projectors, tvs, hifi systems, other sound bars, receivers. You name it. The set up software works only when it feels like it, meaning hours of frustrating factory… Read more
resets, wifi issues and app problems. Buy if you are really good at tech or have the patience of a saint. If you are an ordinary mortal look elsewhere.
Great sounding sound bar, but rubbish build quality and software – Sounds like how a premium soundbar should sound. I am satisfied with it. But so many issues with the soundbar have ruined the experience: 1. I spent hours trying to connect the soundbar and then realised that the hdmi cable port is finicky (too short). Had to press hard to make the connection, no feel from the port. Move the soundbar slightly… Read more
and the ARC connection is lost, repeat the hard pressing to connect again! Sonos advise to use the cable provided. Their short 1m cable isn’t long enough to go into my wall mounted TV. Sonos don’t accept hdmi standards!? This is a known issue and yet they do nothing about it. 2. Quite often when I start the tv, there is no sound. Is it the above mentioned port? Sometimes. In other cases, it’s the App. The app has muted the sound. You just won’t know. Again I spent hours investigating before i saw a small x against the volume icon in the app. So small that you will need a magnifying glass to see it. 3. They don’t provide a remote. So any settings changes, find your phone, open the rubbish app.
Get yourself the Arc for Xmas at the reduced price under 1K in Australia – I purchased this in the black Friday sales and got a whopping $509 off the purchase price. I already had the Sonos Beam connected to my Sony big screen TV. I am techno hopeless. However the swap over was EASY. Both the leads from the Beam fitted into the Arc. Then I used the app on my Iphone to install the Arc and do the update that it… Read more
prompted me to do. All done and no tears or tantrums, the sound quality is brilliant. I am very happy with my purchase. Furthermore, if I needed help there is a telephone number you can ring and speak to an actual person who can talk you through any troubleshooting.
Excellent – All I can say is excellent ..Thank you wesr coast .Totally a pleasure to deal with ..again excellent Show details
A lot of bang for a lot of buck – The aesthetic of this sound bar is sublime. The quality and finish definitely has a premium feel to it. The set up is simple and straightforward. The app is okay.. finally the sound. It would easily trick you into thinking you have a multi speaker setup running. The price is a bit hefty but you get a lot of speaker for your money. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking to enter or upgrade. Show details
Sonos Arc – I have this along with a sub and two Ones. It never drops out at all and the immersive sound is great. Working with a Sony 85x90K. Show details
Premium Product with a Premium Price Tag – I would like to start off buy saying the sound is amazing especially watching ATMOS movies with surround sound. Music is great too I have speakers throughout the house, I love being able to play music through the house in different rooms. I recently added the Port so I can now play vinyl too anywhere I like. The speakers are nicely made and come… Read more
packaged really well. BUT this is where it ends, it’s great when it works !! Connectivity using Wi-Fi is shocking, speakers drop out, you spend hours on end constantly restarting speakers reconnecting them to WI-FI (and yes my speakers have proper Wi-Fi coverage). The speakers are sold as being able to connect using Wi-Fi which you can but they don’t stay connected. I then opted to buy the SONOS Boost to help with connectivity as this device creates its own network called Sonosnet, this did solve my issues with the speakers dropping out but it meant I had to spend more money on an already expensive system. This is not a simple plug and play system, you can try and use Wi-Fi, you can use Sonosnet with a Sonos boost or if you have a speaker close enough to your router you can plug one of them into an Ethernet port which will act like a Boost and create the Sonosnet network. Otherwise plug them all into Ethernet connections if your house is wired for this. There is then setting up fixed IP addresses in your router. So many options, so confusing and none of it explained well at all, if your looking at buying this can you do any of this? The app is another nightmare of its own, constantly not being able to find my system, wasting more time restarting and reconfiguring. The app crashes, is frustrating to use, and poorly thought out. The support team I found to be of no help to me at all, all they do is blame your local network and want you to make invasive changes to your router which in my case would have brought my whole network down including my home security network and when I said no to this they point blank refused to help me, not thinking for a minute maybe its your system not mine that has issues. I’d like to say this to the Sonos Team and marketing team, all I want to do is open my phone and play music but instead I am faced with all of this. Your product is sold as a premium product, it comes with a premium price tag but the whole package is just not working. Now to top it off you have released a new app release that has caused an “updating” problem on every users app that has a Sonos Boost. I have verified this with your support team and if anyone is interested check the Sonos Community site there are many many frustrated Sonos customers. Your strategy is not working at all, you need to rethink your product completely. I have moved from being a dissatisfied customer to one now that regrets buying this system. I’ll finish by saying, premium product, premium price tags but poorly thought out with almost no support, this does not cut it in my opinion.
Arc + Atmos = high definition sound – Over the years, I've stuck with Sony, running 2 iterations of their large scale Hi-Fi Muteki 7.2 surround systems, and downsizing to their mini-muteki soundbar + sub and although they all packed a punch, they still don't hold a candle to the production of sound from my SONOS system. This is a no regrets buy!! It comes beautifully packaged like a… Read more
gigantic iphone box with sliding locks that have that solid click feel to unlock the packaging. Once you slip the top box off you're greeted by your soundbar wrapped royally in soft fabric! It really is an exciting process to go through and the SONOS team really want you to feel like you're opening a premium product.
This is by no means a small speaker. The soundbar is 1.14m long which pairs nicely with my wall mounted 75" telly, but I'd say it would dwarf a 55" TV. The sheer sense of inadequacy would send you off to your local Hifi store to upgrade your TV haha.
Rather than just talk about the Arc soundbar, I think it's important that I talk about some of the tech behind this speaker which extends beyond the soundbar, i.e. Atmos/Trueplay/eARC/CEC/and cables, as knowing this will allow you to get the very best out of your SONOS system.
My setup - I have the SONOS Arc, SONOS gen 3 Sub, PS5, and Google TV connected to my Hisense 75" TV (4k U7G). The Arc is connected via 8k HDMI to the eARC capable HDMI Port in my TV, and the whole setup is connected to the Arc via Google Nest Mesh WiFi. Unfortunately, my TV only has a single 2.1 HDMI port so my PS5 is connected here. The rest are 2.0, but I digress...
"Atmos" - This is where the magic happens. Having your ARC connected to your TV's eARC, allows you to take full advantage of what Atmos is; true to form suround sound, and the SONOS Arc handles this with astonishing grace! It literally rains sound all around you. You will honestly be immersed in whatever it's playing. I own an apartment so I felt the need for active satellites was redundant, and I was delighted to be proven right by the production of surrounding sound from the Arc. It truely is amazing.
"Trueplay" - SONOS have developed technology using the mic on your phone and their super user friendly app, to tune the accoustics of your sound system to that of your living space. I'll be honest though, the system fresh out of the box sounds great and following tuning, I felt given my living space isn't all that big, it placed a limiter on the volume, so naturally a manually dialed it back up.
"eARC" - ARC simply means Audio Return Channel, and if your TV has an "enhanced" (eARC) HDMI port, then you'll be able to send the highest resolution sound from your TV to your speaker, allowing you to hear movies and music the way the producers intend. Further, as this is hooked up to eArc, any other device (PS5, Apple TV, Google TV...etc.) will play out of the SONOS system! Note, the ARC soundbar is directly connected to the TV but syncs the Sub's sound via your Wifi. I dare say, this is also an important inclusion to avoid lip syncing issues (yes, I read some of the neg reviews).
"CEC" - CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is a pretty old-ish tech that most smart TV's in the last possibly 10 years have. Simply put, this allows you to control most HDMI connected devices using a single remote (you may have to enable this specifically in your device settings). This means I I can use my TV remote to control my actual TV, SONOS Speakers, and PS5.
"Cables" - With today's tech, you need good cables and if you're running 4k AV tech like a 4K TV, PS5, and the SONOS ARC Atmos soundbar, you're gonna need 4k or 8k capable HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cables, and CAT6 ethernet cables (connecting your Fibre/NBN box to your Wifi router)! If you're not, then you're potentially stiffling the movement of data which means, you might not be getting that crisp picture or sound you'd expected. Spend the money and thank me later.
To conclude, I can't recommend this enough. The sound is crystal, the setup process is reasonably simply if you're somewhat tech savvy, and the system looks and feels great. Worth every penny!
Sonos speaker Arc technology is Defective – I bought Sonos Arc speaker to as external speakers to use with Samsung 75” Model 2021 latest tv with Darc port along with usual hdmi. could not help .I am very disappointed. After spending $500.00 I am stuc, these speakers are no good.Sonos support system their technical on line support is not very helpful / incompetent. Top Level Soundbar – We purchased the white option to match our white Samsung The Serif TV. Typical Sonos quality. You get what you pay for. Super easy to set up via WiFi. The Trueplay setup on the Sonos 2 mobile app allows you to automatically tune the sounder to specifically match your room acoustics. Nice. Also plays nicely with Apple Airplay 2. only works with WiFi with the portable speakers working with WiFi and Bluetooth.
Has eArc HDMI compatibility so your TV remote can control the Sonos sound. No need for a separate remote or using your phone app. Comes nicely packaged too. Very Apple-like with the opening experience and why not? When you are paying $1,400 for a TV speaker, it should be a pleasant experience.
It is a monster of a Soundbar. It's weight indicates it is well built and is packed full of tech. 11 speakers in all. It is long and because of this, any TV smaller than a 55" will look strange as the Sonos will be wider than the TV!
Sound is impressive. A Sonos Sub would add depth especially handling the low end which apparently frees up the Arc to handle mid and high end frequencies. However, the Arc handles the low end frequencies quite well without a Sub speaker. For those who really want to experience those movie style gut punching low end sound experiences, there is a limit to what it can deliver and you should consider adding a Sonos Sub. All Sonos speakers can easily be added at a later day. Something I am considering by adding a Sonos Sub.
The Sonos 2 app (iOS & Android) has very basic EQ settings although there is a 'voice enhancement' button to improve those occasional muffled vocal shows / movies.
Does the Sonos Arc handle music well? Yes it does. All the online reviews mentioned it delivered your music far better than other competing soundbars and I can confirm it indeed does deliver, albeit without a Sub speaker which would add a level of richness if included.
Would I recommend the Sonos Arc. Yes. Also consider the cheaper and smaller Sonos Beam. Also, go and listed to the Arc and compare with other similarly priced soundbars but make sure you have any paired Sonos Sub switched off before you listen to the Arc on its own which is what I did.
Incredible… – Disclaimer, I’ve got the Sonos Arc, matching sub and two surrounds. This rig is the best, most dynamic, full, rich, room filling audio I’ve ever heard. It’s 3 dimensional, we now sit in the sound, rather than it blaring at us from the front. The dynamic range is excellent to my ears. The most surprising thing is while it fills the room with… Read more
ease, when I shut the door, the sound is bizarrely contained. It feels loud in the room, but doesn’t punch out across the rest of the house like all other speaker set ups have. Excellent for movie watching when the kids are in bed.
So dam good….
Sounds great but glitchy – Sounds great, looks great, but the glitches ruin the experience. Focus on the positives: The entire bundle with the Arc, 2 Sonos Ones and the Sub sounds great. The white finish matches my interior very well. The App is simple enough for a non-tech person to understand. Areas of Improvement: Any one of the speakers randomly stops working. This… Read more
happens when the TV is switched on, when the change audio sources, if the internet is down for a moment, etc. There is no pattern to the glitches and the support guide cannot diagnoise these issues correctly. Rebooting does not fix these issues, only factory resets. For a premium product, I expected a very reliable system.
I am not sure ATMOS is that noticable, however, this could be the content. I recommend Sonos introduced a test for all speakers to hear the height speakers.
My setup: - Samsung Frame TV 2022 - ARC - Sub - 2 x Sonos One
Different configurations I have tested: - Wifi Router has been move away and close to ARC and Sub for testing - Switch between 2.4ghz to 5.0ghz wifi connection - Wired and wireless configurations have been tested for weeks - TV connected via eArc using 4k and 8k HDMI cables - Cat7 and Cat7 LAN used in separate testing - Change LAN ports - Change audio formats (5.1, 7.1) - Tested on iPhone 10 and Android
Note for Sonos: Forcing software upgrades is not ideal. Consumers need control over upgrading and downgrading the software patches incase the software causes issues. Have the system report to your IT team any issues based on the users configuration and hardware, and then allow the consume to downgrade to a safe version that worked.
Ordinary sound quality, appalling after-sales return process – Ordinary sound when lined up against the Bose 900 Soundbar and surrounds - don't believe the Sonos marketing departments hype. Deplorable after sales support post-purchase if you want to return. Have not been able to get my money back - all I get is excuses about their returns system - same excuses I can see in online forums going back to 2018. So… Read more
we are stuck in limbo having returned $3,469 worth of gear (Sonos Arc $1,499, Sonos Sub $1,099, Sonos Stand (Pair) $299, One SL Surround Speaker 2 X $289) under their 100 day trial with free returns program. Received an email on 6 June, 2022 saying the items are back with them. It's now 20 June, 2022 and they have our money and after 10 working days, not a peep out of them by phone or email to follow-up or update us on what is going on. A call to their Australian office either ends in a 'We'll call you back without loosing your spot in the queue or continue waiting FOR-EVER and when you finally get through it's always ALWAYS the same guy. They DO NOT have the staff resources in Australia to check the returned items in a timely manner or skillset in the returns & accounts teams to transact a return/refund in a timely manner. After my 23 minutes on hold Sonos Australia advised me that they have a team of 5 people in Oz. (1 in sales + 1 being trained, 1 in returns, 2 in finance) and I called through to their technical support line, and was told they are in the Philippines - at least they answered the call promptly and sounded competent. Do yourself a favour everyone, go with Bose if you want better sound and solid functioning after sales support. UPDATE: Got my refund. Was pushed through by Paypal Australia 20/6/2022. Lessoned learned everyone - use Paypal and not your credit card when purchsing from Sonoa Australia!
Find out how Sonos Arc compares to other Soundbars
Know better, choose better.
You will need a TV with an EARC port to get the Dolby Atmos feature – If you own an old TV with just an ARC port, you will not get the Dolby Atmos sound you're expecting from this pricey soundbar. I've done a bit of research and found an eArc Adaptor (HDFury 4K Arcana) worth $400+ AUD. Otherwise, paired with the Sub, listening to Fleetwood Mac sounds great. Show details
Not great for the price, pretty disappointing – I had big expectations for this, and gave my old LG sound bar away to a friend the day this arrived, kind of wish I hadn’t now! Bought it with the Sub and One. Treble is ok, bass is very murky, mid section same. The app is terrible, it keeps being unable to ‘find’ my system every other week. The EQ is so rudimentary as to be useless (literally… Read more
just bass and treble sliders). The automated tuning system seems to make little difference. Better for tv, playing music through this is very uninspiring. The One gives a much more crisp sound than the Arc. All up I paid a fortune for a less than impressive system.
Outstanding sound for both music and TV – We purchased the arc 4 months ago and initially I was quite underwhelmed by the sound. As a comparison we have a Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin in another room and I thought the Sonos arcs performance was significantly below that of the Zeppelins (similar price). I did remember though that the Zeppelin took some time to loosen up. I don't know if… Read more
this is a thing but after a few months of purchasing the Zeppelin , it really opened up providing wonderful crisp clear sound across all audio ranges. The Arc did the same - to an extent. The upper and middle range after a month or two was then excellent and the base became better but still lacked the resonance I was hoping for (and we have in the Zeppelin). A month ago we then purchased the Gen 3 Subwoofer and this has completely changed everything. It really does allow the Arc to focus on the mid to high range and the Subwoofer sets off a fantastic deep base that you can feel. All well balanced, clear and precise. It is quite incredible. We have a Samsung 75inch TV so it is starting to be like being at the movies. When you turn the volume right up there is no distortion what so ever - except for the wife complaining from the other end of the house.
I use the room as a home office as well and often play music through the Sonos system. The system is perfect for this also.
The software is excellent. For me it was very easy to set up, and we have not had any issues like some others who posted here have.
I really cant fault it, and am looking forward to adding some rear speakers soon.
Sonos Arc 5.1.2 - awesome digital Atmos – This review would have been 5 stars, however, I do agree I'll start with the cons. Cons: e-ARC is still not mature and various TV manufacturers are not onboard with the numerous sound bars available on the market. I currently own a Sony A80J 77" OLED, and eARC doesn't properly 'handshake' with the soundbar in eARC mode. To keep it simple, eARC… Read more
allows for uncompressed sound to be pushed through the soundbar. The SONOS arc seems to have a handshake issue that is probably resolved via software in an upcoming firmware update from either Sony or Sonos.
The volume is not consistent. If you watch Youtube or another channel for that matter, it can sometimes be either too loud or too soft.
Pro's: Wow, crystal clear 3D surround sound!! I have the full Sonos Arc 5.1.2 surround setup - the Gen 3 Sub and 2x One SL rear surrounds. The soundstage is amazing for a soundbar this size and because the ceilings work to my advantage I am immersed in ATMOS. Rather than picking out height sounds, you're supposed to feel immersed with a feeling of sound moving around you, rather than the proverbial left, right or rear left/rear right channel movement of sound. The height effects are impacted by the height of your ceilings. I have medium height ceilings and whilst I can't pinpoint an exact location, I do feel like sound is coming from above me and around me.
Some reviewers are not sold on ATMOS but remember ATMOS and the ability for a soundbar to bounce sounds off walls to give you surround sound can vary to each user's room setup. Please keep that in mind when procuring any soundbar. To create virtual or surround sound vs a dedicated left and right speaker, these sound bars rely on bouncing sound off walls on either left or right to create the soundstage and separation.
Overall i'm very happy with the sound quality from Sonos. I've come from a rather old Bose lifestyle V35 and moved to Sonos and sold on the Wifi sound quality. The Sonos Arc is versatile and you will not be disappointed with its sonic qualities. For those complaining about constant disconnections, it all boils down to your wifi router and network. I run off a ORBi RBK50 wireless router and satellite which is able to handle the bandwidth requirements of the wifi network created by the Sonos Arc and it's surround and sub unit. If you're experiencing drop outs, consider purchasing the Sonos Boost that creates a Sonos network which won't be impacted by your various IoT(Internet of Things) tagging off your wifi network. I have not experienced any drop outs under the ORBI rBK50 router and couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Setup was painless - all you do is allow the Sonos application to identify all your wifi speakers and presto, you have your instant home theatre speakers all setup.
Bose, you lost me based on your exorbitant prices. Sonos, you've won me over with your quality and sound.
Wasted so much time setting up this product – Today I spent 7 hours setting up my Sonos Arc again. I had to reset it multiple times and despite my router seeing all the Sonos devices, they seem to have major issues seeing each other. I tried getting onto a human at Sonos to help me with my issues and I couldn't get onto one. I emailed for help and they have shut down email assistance. There… Read more
was only a robot available in chat. In the end after countless resets and failures, I finally reset everything and got it working. This is at least the third time I've had to battle with the system for an extended period and I have no idea why the App, Sonoc Arc, Sub and 2 x SL speakers struggle to talk to each other. The connection process is super slow so I can only assume there are major programming issues with it. I am running the latest version of the App. I would not buy another Sonos product after this, despite the sound being good when the devices work and the devices looking good. You need proper support services for a premium product. Simple.
Doesn't live up to the hype – After reading many reviews from so called tech gurus, I'm left wanting. Sound quality is not as good as reviews would like you to believe. If listening in a showroom, they will play loud samples, but in the home at normal volumes you lose a lot of the directional Dolby Atmos experience and it appears to simply be a stereo speaker. Bass is… Read more
difficult to get right, while the sub is not punchy it can become too loud with some media, while not noticeable with other media. Volumes do not seem to normalize based on what you are listening to. When watching TV it might be very loud then switching to a streaming service on the same TV might be very soft. I am constantly changing volume. I suffer from the periodic disconnection when watching TV, which seems to be a common issue. The Arc sound disconnects two or three times per movie for about 5-10 seconds. Sonos ecosystem is not great. Having to do everything in the app is frustrating. Spotify native app is far better. Assistant is far better on native devices, the microphones don't seem to pick up your voice as clear. To the point that home assistant in another room will answer me while Arc completely ignores the command.
not as good as the ad says – I purchased this and found a few problems, firstly the sound would cut in and out, I had to unplug and let it reboot every day sometimes more than once, the volume didnt kick in til around 16 on the volume control, the lip sync was way out and could not be adjusted, I sent it back within the 100 day trial period and received a full refund, I have… Read more
since researched harder and found that unless your TV has HDMI eARC than you will not get the true value of the ARC soundbar, I did play music on it and it was fantastic, movies just didnt cut it, I went back to my playbar and it was better as I did not have HDMI eARC on my TV only HDMI ARC. I purchased straight from Sonos and had a discount for upgrading
Perfect Sound, easy to setup and use – After a lot of research on soundbars, we decided to buy the Sonos Arc. The Arc is a bit more expensive than other soundbars but it is worth it. The sound is crisp and the bass is sharp and you can feel it in your chest. The Arc is easy to set up, we have an older tv with no HDMI arc / eARC and the Sonos Arc works perfectly, our tv remote controls… Read more
the sound on the Arc with no issues. We had an old surround speaker setup before we brought the Sonos Arc, we had a centre speaker, with 2 front speakers and 2 rear speakers and a sub. With the Dolby Atmos sound coming out from the Arc, we do not need rear speakers or a sub. I would rate the Sonos Arc 10 out of 10, it is easy to setup and the sound is amazing
Love my arc – Setup was done by using your phone and the app which I found fantastic. It was like having a technician with you and I'm no tv wiz. I love how you had to walk around the room so the sound quality suited your specific size of space. After about 10 days it just stopped working. I rang for support and they were wonderful. The ARC is the best of the best! – The Sonos arc is the best sounding unit i have ever owned. I was on the waiting for more than a month. It was all over after about a day with the arc . My system is the arc, play ones as rear and the Sonos sub all wireless and by far the best audio visual and straight stereo I have ever heard. Not only is everything nice and balanced. The mids are nice and well they are present and its all wonderful. I actually had to tone down the treble on mine. I am in audio heaven. Thank you Sonos
