Poor quality. It last only for 2 years – So disappointed with this product. The sound bar didn't last long. I got mine totally stop working 2 days ago, I thought my remote battery need to replace, and once i put new battery on the remote, I figured out the problem is from the device. Just 2 years used and that's it. Good lesson to learn, never touch this series anymore. Show details
Poor build quality, doesn't last – Purchased this sound bar in Feb 2017, completely stopped working in October 2017. Sent in for repair, was told faulty boards were replaced. Then complete failure against in Nov 2018. Sound was OK when it worked, but unfortunately poor build quality would prevent me from purchasing another Sony sound bar Show details
Very poor base sound !!!!! – sounds worse than my $80 computer speaker. Very weak base sound. So don't think about good sound for your movies. After bought this product. Never sony again. Show details
Just right for us – We bought this together with our OLED TV. The sound bar consist only of two pieces and is very very good for a small space. The sound quality is good without blasting the neighbours. Show details
Not the best - not the worst – For the price (about $130) I find this speaker to be sufficient. I'm not obsessed with having amazing sound so this device more than I need for my wants. The bluetooth function is handy for playing music from my phone. All in all a good entry level speaker from a reliable brand. Show details
Excellent compact sound bar – Excellent value. Don't expect 5.1 surround sound. Get the settings right. Read the manual correctly and set input/output according to your tv. If you're not experiencing better sound than just your tv speakers, you've not set it up correctly. The "night" mode is a really useful feature. Deep rich bass Show details
Fail not worth buying – 7 months the speaker is in for repair no drops it was working properly and just stopped. If you would like to buy a Sony htct180 cheap I will be selling this one as soon as it comes back from Sony repairing it. I will probably sell the Sony Tv as well. Show details
Don't believe all you read – Was looking at a product that would replace my blown home entertainment system and found one I did! Out of the box this was the simplest sound system I have ever set. Plugged the supplied optical cable into the TV, plugged in the sub and wam, job done.. I couldn't believe how great this unit sounds. Super clear mid and treble and a sub that… Read more
shook the floor.
No distortion whatsoever even when turned up to the maximum setting.. Don't forget to turn the sub up..
I can't understand the several bad reviews this unit has received! I can only put it down to an inability to follow simple instructions out perhaps just plain stupidity!!!
Low sound levels will be heard if the unit has the Dolby DRC changed. To fix this hold down the audio button for 5 seconds then the the voice button for 5 second. Either the analog or optical light will flash twice indicating the DRC is turned off or on...
This unit is s beast.....
Perfect if paired with a Blu-ray for movies and CD's and your mobile device... It's supports mirror cast too...
More then enough grunt to rock the house and scare the neighbors..
Great sound, just make sure it's set up properly – Bought this to replace a Sony surround sound system (the meters of speaker cabling was driving me insane!), but I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money on a wireless system so bought this unit. So far I am very pleased with my purchase at this price point (approx. $300-$350) and the sound quality is excellent (if you set it up correctly!) … Read more
Potential buyers note: at 2.1 channels 100W, it is exactly what it should be i.e. a left and right speaker soundbar. Don't expect amazing 3D surround sound.
I disagree with some of the other review comments, it is not a simple plug-and-play unit, if the system is set-up correctly as follows you will get the desired result:
- make sure you change your TV audio settings from TV to Audio System
- buy a good quality optical cable to connect with your TV, Foxtel box etc.... Analogue connection won't give you the same sound effect
- Sub-woofer: note this has a separate volume control operated via the remote. Make sure the sub-woofer volume is set correctly and this will give you good bass
- Bluetooth connection: you will not get exactly the same volume as you hear when initially connected through the TV. My experience is you have to switch-up the soundbar volume when connected via bluetooth
- Volume - although no sound comes out of your TV speakers when using the soundbar, the TV/ Foxtel box volume setting does effect the soundbar volume so make sure it is set correctly, the soundbar will then give you the desired volume effect
- reports of lip sync issues. I haven't experienced this, but I am using a good quality optical cable
Pros: good price, good sound and compact
Cons: no way of knowing when in mute mode, or what the soundbar volume setting is i.e. via an on TV display. So be careful when changing from optical to Bluetooth mode as they require different volume settings. Bluetooth requires a much higher volume setting so when reverting back to optical make sure you reduce the volume first or the TV volume will be loud!
Nothing so special!! – I was looking for a sound bar and subwoofer for my ultra HD tv and bought this one was under $300 dollar. It's working fine and until now didn't have a problem with it but the sound quality isn't what I excepted from Sony!! It's very easy to install and easy to pair using Bluetooth devices but sound quality isnt what I was expecting. Good… Read more
point: nice design, looks elegant , have buttons on the bar.
Bad point: sound quality and bass volume isn't satisfying
My Sony sound – I was amazed to find that the system did not have a connection cord to suit my Teac TV . The system when hooked up to the Panasonic was great. I have had a couple of problems when a loss of power caused me o renew the connection. Nice sound when going well Rayem Show details
Avoid please – Bought ~mid last year, sound stopped working altogether within the first month, had to get it swapped for a new one. 9 months later the sound has stopped working again, took in to get repaired, repair centre had it for 6 weeks then said there's nothing wrong - left it at the store and said please organise a swap to a better model. Sound was fine when it was working, but Been a headache. Show details
dont buy – the sound is too soft. i was assured it would improve the sound on my expensive samsung tv. however the sound on my tv is louder on its own. the subwoofer is too quiet too.i needed to use hearing aids just to be able to detect the words and make them audible. Show details
Find out how Sony HTCT180 compares to other Subwoofers
Know better, choose better.
Very poor product – I've had this Soundbar for 3 days and all I can say avoid, the volume is soft even at full blast. The sub woofer is hopeless. There is issues with lip sync. And the Bluetooth is no good also, you can hardly here your music! Very poor product from Sony.
It's Ok – Was looking for budget soundbar for my LCd tv. I saw this Sony soundbar HT-CT180 online. It was available for below 300 AUD. I am now using it for two weeks. I must say sound is very clear. It looks also very good. It has got one soundbar and one woofer. I was able to connect it to my Sony mobile using NFC. Even from other mobiles using bluetooth… Read more
it was easy to connect. But I must say I was expecting more from this. Sound quality is good but not loud enough. Also woofer sound is not punchy compared to size of woofer. I must say I was disappointed by volume capacity.
Pros - Clear crisp sound. Easy connection through bluetooth, optical and 3.5mm analog.
Cons - not enough volume, sound not punchy.
