Been a really good phone – Recently upgraded from the z3 which is a good phone now the z5 quite similar but I find the camera better on the z5. As for extras Compared to previous models there isnt alot but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Also the look of the z5 is similar but better body style and material. Overall happy and will always stick to Sony phones.  Show details

Better than I expected – Water resistant with a 20mpic camera, is the only reason why I bought this phone. However, it is much better than expected. Easy to use and navigate, being similar to the brand new Google phone. It's also quick to load. But that camera is why it is by far the best phone for our family. With 3 kids I'm always needing to quickly grab that Kodak… Read more

An Okay Phone – Phone is the standard Sony quality. When i first got this phone its battery life was great, however they then updated the software, and the phone ever since has never been able to hold a charge for more than half a day. Extremely poor battery life and performance, and Sony is fully aware of the issue, yet ignore it. Camera works great 23mp. Phones… Read more

performance has improved since the last software update. Sony seem to have the same issues present in every model they release. Hopefully the get it sorted soon.

Pretty Bad XPERIAnce – First up, I really liked the phone. It looks good, it works well, yada yada. The problem with this phone, unfortunately, seems to be that after about 6 months the top glass becomes unglued from the phone resulting in the proximity sensor not working, which means you cannot end a call or even turn your phone off to end the call. This is… Read more

a problem.

Whilst browsing the web in search of a fix, I discovered there are a tonne of people with the same problem. But speak to Sony, and they will argue this is NOT a common problem.

Even if you choose to have it repaired, phone repairers are tearing their hair out trying to work out how the hell to glue these things back together because no glue has yet been invented which is strong enough.

So what Sony SHOULD be doing is offering free repairs or replacements, changing the way the phone is made, and making sure it doesn't happen again. But unfortunately Sony burying their head in the sand results in annoyed customers who would never buy another of their products and leave reviews like this.

Ps. You can fix it with a rubber band

really good phone but kept on having problems with the power button – Got this phone through a phone plan with Virgin Mobile. When I first got it, I loved it. Everything worked fine, the best feature for me was the camera. It is a bit big and doesn't really fit on most pockets, so I usually just leave it on my locker at work or on my bag when going out. That's why I was surprised that after a year, the power button… Read more

stopped working. Everything else worked except the power button. If I had maintained it with the battery well charged I could have used it for longer, but since it was still under warranty with virgin mobile, I had it fixed. They sent me another phone, I'm not sure if it was brand new of refurbished, but after 4 months, the new phone had the same problem. Really a shame for such a nice and useful phone.

Screen issues – The screen started going blank around 2 months after I got the phone and this was due to issues with the proximity sensor. It does not allow you to hang up, I would have to restart the phone or wait for the other end to hang up. I went to the phone technician and they said that there was a fault with this manufacturing line and that any phones sold from outside Australia do not have warranty covered by Sony Australia. Do not buy this phone.  Show details

Best phone in my opinion! – This is the best android phone by far and the best phone I've owned. Battery life lasts the whole day going around places, but using 4K can drain the battery quite a bit. The storage for me is more than enough and the phone is just the right size for my pockets and bag.  Show details

Good phone – This is an overall good phone if you have a good phone cover. If not screen breaks pretty easily and costs alot to get replaced. This phone was mainly purchased for it ability to capture great photos which is always handy of you have small children as your mobile is easier to carry than a large camera at times. Incredibly hot – Was fine for the first three months of having the phone but it always got so hot to the point I couldn't hold it. Also the wifi kept dropping out on the phone but I'm not sure it was the phones issue but it hasn't occurred with any other phone I've had. It really slows down over time though and it only held 3 hours of charge  Show details

The worst phone I have ever had! EVER!! – I have had my Sony z5 for 1 year and a half. From the moment I got it I had problems with it. First it started going blank when I was on a call and could not hang up, I would have to restart the phone or wait for the other end to hang up. Then it started overheating even when not in use. I went to telstra they said I need send it into Sony. … Read more

Contacted Sony and was told to send it in but they don't offer a replacement phone for the time it's in repairs. it could be up to 2 months in their workshop! So I decided to put up with it. It has gotten progressively worse. It freezes and overheats and reboots ( even during a call) 10 to 20 times a day. The WiFi and Bluetooth won't turn on so have to use my 3g data and my Bluetooth is useless now. I did a factory reset and Repair through Sony pc companion. That was a nightmare, to connect the phone to the computer took 30 mins because the phone kept rebooting. Finally it was done. The phone only worked well for 2 hours after the reset and Repair. I had enough!! It is a useless phone. Sony you should be ashamed. I have stay connected with telstra and I am getting a new phone. I did express to telstra that I didn't want another Sony! They said they have to replace the handset with the same one, well it was my lucky day, they didn't have it in stock so they are sending me a iPhone 6s, jumped with joy!!! bye bye Sony. I hate it so much that I Want to smash my phone and every Sony Xperia I see at counters. I already made a complaint to telstra about selling these defective phones. Funny how when I talk to those who are in the mobile phone industry they nod at me like they have heard my issues with Sony a thousand times. Thank goodness I have stay connec with Telstra! Life saver

Sony can't get it right – Have had Xperia z5 for nearly 2 years and phone started frezzing and battery draining quickly within first 12 months . Send for repair and came out that phone had a microscopic bend and warranty is voided. I used to work in phone retail for 5 years and know this was a common issue with this phone and Sony wash their hands away. Camera is good and that's all. No Sony from now on.  Show details

One of the worst phones I have ever owned – I have had this phone for just under 2 years and in that time it has given me no end of trouble. Here are some of the issues that I have had with it: * After just over a year the camera decided that it wasn't going to work with the memory card (which has been tested in other devices). I had to install a third party camera app to be able to use… Read more

the camera.

* The phone often freezes. Even when not many apps are open. You can't take the back cover off so you can't reset it that way.

* If you have too many apps open. The phone literally overheats and gets quite hot.

* The phone has had several compatibility issues with android apps that work fine with other brand android phones.

*The fingerprint scanner works maybe one time out of 10 and you have to end up putting in the PIN

*The phone for a relatively new model takes an eternity to start up, nearly a minute.

The images which I set as the wallpaper in it, for no reason decided to stop working and now I just have a blank screen as the wallpaper.

It is very slow to load many of the apps.

The only two good things about this phone and why I chose it, were the high resolution camer (when it works properly) and because at the time the Samsung S6 didn't have a memory card slot (which is where I keep a lot of my media on a Sandisk memory card) and the S6 hadn't come out yet. I wish that I had waited for a few months, because in hindsight and for the future I will never use another Sony phone and I can't wait until I can change the handset.

Good value powerful phone – Bought this phone towards the end of it's life cycle, the features are great, water resistance has saved me many times. The speakers are good for the size of the phone and the camera is exceptional, it can even to 4K! The battery also has a good life and their stamina features can be helpful. An extra gig of ram would be nice to help run some higher end software but next model I guess.  Show details

Love this phone – Camera quality on this phone is amazing and people are always asking me what camera I use! The phone is slippery when it doesn't have a case on it and I highly advise always having a case on it as their 'shatterproof' guarantee doesn't mean the screen won't smash it simply means it is safety glass that won't fall out when it does smash. In saying that it was my fault for dropping it and not having a case  Show details

Very good phone – We have purchased one of this for my wife and she is generally happy with this so far. The camera is very good and people gets surprised when see the photos we took. Still so fast and fluid a year and a half on! – This model is almost two years old but still very fast. It is up to date with the latest version of Android (7.1.1), and does not get overly hot like other devices with the same Snapdragon 810 processor. The battery life on the Sony Xperia Z5 is quite good by my standards, I average about three to four hours of screen on time. The screen is nice,… Read more

bright and responsive. The front and rear cameras are passable and take a good photo in adequate lighting.

In terms of negatives this device feels fragile, I have been scared to drop it as I feel like it would get damaged easily. This can be negated by the use of a good case.

Top quality from Sony – Bought this for my partner in a lovely gold colour and she loves the look of it. It functions well and the build quality is perfect. My only concern is the battery isn't as good as the Xperia z3 that I have. Besides that, the camera is superior, the fingerprint sensor works smartly and quickly, and the Android system is the latest marshmallow.  Show details

One Step Forward Two Steps Back – I've previously owned the Z2, which I found to be a great phone (and it's still being used). However, the battery seems to drain quicker in this phone, and I've had more frequent issues with freezes and… Read more

Great Sony phone-Gold colour – Love the phone. Sony has outweighed themselves again in their phones. The back camera is 23MP and very clear. The only drawback I could see with this phone is the battery life. It lasts a day at a stretch and I am not a big phone user. I do listen to songs about 30 mins but day apart from the regular use (excluding videos, games). The gold colour… Read more

FM Radio!! – The Sony Xperia X5 has an FM radio which is a feature lacking on most current phones. Beautifully presented and will survive more than one drop (it is also waterproof, so it will survive drops in water also). Pros: Battery life, front facing speakers Cons: It was expensive upon release, I can't update any higher than Android 5.1.1 on my phone and Sony can't help.  Show details

Great screen and thin phone – I've really enjoyed this phone. Great screen, really good camera - although frustrates me that can't focus on a spot and notice it immediately. Super thin and durable. Had some updating issues at the start but new update fixed that. Like a user below, it does overheat a bit and also unlocks in my pocket if I have the double tap to unlock setting on. Recommend it.  Show details

Good phone – The Sony Xperia Z5 is a weird phone. Very Stylish very modern, however it does have some issues for example it does overheat a lot, even when its just in my pocket doing nothing. i think android is to blame though. I wouldn't recommend this phone today as i think there are better options however if you can get one for under 100 aud it might be worth it.  Show details

Was superb on a family holiday – Have used Sony phones before and had good experiences. This phone is absolutely perfect for holidays. honest too big for our needs, card into. I thought I'd play it safe with a 256Gb card but even with over 1000 photos during the trip, Netflix videos saved, 40Gb of music saved for offline use (Google Music) I still have 150Gb left! But hey, at least I had the choice to put whatever I want in. Even the built in memory is enough but with a card you can store bucketloads.

Decided to use this rather than our DSLR as the photo quality is great, Google Photos does the backups for us while we are away over wifi and having a phone each makes it much more portable so we can all be taking photos that we like.

I love the screen, front facing dual speakers which makes playback of videos just that much better and yes, a headphone jack.

One of the best features is the fingerprint reader is in the power button on the side of the phone. I can't believe other manufacturers seem to fuss over where it should go. My thumb is always on the side of my phone if it is in my right hand, or my index finger if it is in my left. It just works so easily it just makes sense.

Battery life is great. Even our big days on holiday taking lots of photos, using Google maps galore it never ran out.

Probably the only downside for me is the slightly slippery back, but I bought a Tech21 case which we use for all of our family's phones.

Faults, faults & yet more faults – On our Optus plan, my wife & I, changed from Samsung Galaxy 6 (reports on S7-no good), to Sony Experia Z5 premium. Thought it was a one of, then my set did the same. Sent both away for service, with my wife's being rejected because it was "bent??", My phone was classed as "dead" & replaced with a "company REMANUFACTURED model. Had this unit on charge overnight & within an hour, had decreased to 18%, with only file transfers initiated. Put back on charger, & four hours later, had increased to 23%. Three other charger units later, & still only 30% achieved.

No reason given for my wife's bent phone, as a comparison between the two had no visible issues.

The response, or lack of, from Optus, for a 16 year client, was bordering on pathetic.

If it wasn't going to cost a small fortune to go to another Telco, would have done by now, with the phones themselves being currently used as paperweights.

My suggestion, is that if you need to replace your handset, anything other than the Sony Experia Z5, would have to be better.

& Optus' saying of YES, is obviously no.

phones do it well, this doesn't.

Complained to Sony and they blamed the app manufacturer.

What this really means is the app manufacturers think so poorly of the Z5 that they haven't bothered doing the necessary configuration.

Also, many 'normal' features need a contact to Sony support to figure out how to operate / where they lie.

To be honest, better product abound (especially Motorola G4).

ive been through several chargers and they all wear out the hooks. im guessing this is a common problem with the usb mini plugs thats on most smart phones.
