me up until their arbitrarily imposed cessation date which is 6 week away. How egregious is that! Southern Phone used to be a cooperative, but once it was purchased by AGL, it just went downhill in terms of customer focus.
Couldn’t get payment to work on the website so ordered through the live chat so went through everything again ordered to take over my existing service and upgrade to hypefast. expensive but they actually have people who know what they are talking about manning customer services and are contactable on the weekend. Contrast the experience I was able to get connected immediately and had my NTD upgraded three days later.
Southern Phone are completely hopeless I have been with them for a few months now and every single month I have been given a myriad of unexpected charges. tried on multiple occasions to set up automatic payments and have still received late fees even after getting confirmation of auto payments from southern phone and confirming with a (frankly useless) customer service rep over the phone.
somehow they have managed to make a $15 plan cost me up to $40 every single month.
Also, their online site is buggy and borderline non-functional and they don't have an app.

Excellent price, excellent service – Excellent service. No drop out problems. Only once I was on hold for about 40 minutes but that was during bushfires so perfectly understandable. Every other time is fine. The cost is fabulous and I am notified if I am nearing my limit. Show 2 replies

Contact by Email – Recently I needed to check my mobile data usage with Southern Phone Company after receiving an SMS alert from them that I’d passed the 50% allowance. I logged into my account, which now requires two factor verification. I requested a verification code via SMS. (A response time to the code of 3 minutes is allowed). Then I remembered that prior to receiving my November 2022 monthly bill by email from Southern Phone, I received a letter indicating that they had a problem connecting with my email server, and that future bills would be sent by mail. I have subsequently received the November and December bills in that manner. This morning I contacted Southern Phone using the Live Chat facility on their website and asked why I couldn’t receive emails from Southern Phone while I had no difficulty receiving them from government departments, other organisations and service providers. The agent asked me how I knew. I responded that I had been informed by Southern Phone. The response was “you must have either a hotmail or outlook account.” Correct, and that had been working at least up until 4 Oct 2022. “It’s a Hotmail/outlook issue” So how do I get a verification code? “Please re-attempt this (what you’ve been doing) as you will eventually be able to receive the SMS in a due time-frame ….)

Unreasonable bunch – Rectified faulty 4G broadband router resets itself frequently - faulty firmwares - requires almost daily setups. Tech. supp. rectified that is the issue with the firmware. Worst Internet Provider Ever!!! – Download speeds of 2mbps, continuous drop outs, can only connect 1 device successfully. Customer service a waste of time, put on hold and then made to jump through hoops. Signed up for 500gb plan averaging 20gb for the month barely. Since my partner gave them a bad review on Facebook and divulged our account details we don't seem to have any service at all. All I want now is my service disconnected after 5 months of hell.

Don't have any problems up to now – I had no problem with setting up my phone line or the modem unit. As an older customer, I don't understand what or how I can test the speeds, I only know that when I need to get on the Internet, it works, and that's good enough for me Show reply
All Australian call centres, helpful folks on the phone, great stuff – Seamless change over for 4 mobiles and wireless home broadband. No hidden costs, Southern Phone is upfront. Absolute Rubbish - Do NOT use them – Service started dropping out and won’t now connect. Operators will NOT book a NBN technician unless you have run a speed test using a computer with a special gigabit port. Only trouble is - a lot of computers just don’t use or have these ports. Great plan for pensioners – My wife and I both have the basic mobile plan with you guys. It suits our allowance to a T and we don’t have to break the bank using it which is great when we are both pensioners. Never had any issues when contacting the team, they are always happy, helpful and patient with us old timers who are a little slow on these things. Show reply
DOnt risk it – I joined Southern 5 weeks ago and have faced nothing other problems and incompetence. First they send the data usage updates to the broadband modem and not my phone. I was not given a warning that this was going to happen and when I called they couldn't advise what the problem was. 4 phone consultants advised they would find out and get back to me only 1 did, Steph. She was fantastic and the only reason I am still with them. I have wasted 12 hours of my life in the just waiting for them to answer the phone. Then another 4-7 hours in talking to phone consultants and repeating myself ad nauseum. I still cant get data usage updates. I cant see the usage on their internet portal. I called on Saturday evening and when they finally answered after 43 min they advised me that can't see my usage and they couldn't tell me how much data I had used so far this month.

Had very poor experience. No customer service – Service is super slow. Takes 3 weeks for a email response. Impossible to disconnect with them even after the service been transferred away. I called them about it, They still taking funds from my credit card! Call them and it’s super hard to get through! Don’t risk it.

Not as good as Boost/Telstra – The service, for me is the same that I got from using Optus directly: Occasional drop outs on downloads (streaming, etc) Download can fluctuate between <1Mbps to 10Mbps depending on peak times. A simple, easy-to-use, mobile - brilliant! – I chose it Southern Phones because the service was inexpensive - I couldn't afford Telstra, my then-current provider, and it offered too many functions I didn't need. My mobile phone makes phone calls, and that's all I want it to do. If I could give zero stars I would – We ordered the 500gb mobile broadband service four months ago. The service arrived and did not work. We asked for the service to be cancelled. They said the sim was broken and would send a new sim. We waited for over a month and received a bill for the service! We spent lots of time on chat to find out the new sim was never sent so we demanded it… Read more

No problems with it. Very reliable – No issues at all. Have had a couple of dropouts, but that was the Network, not Southern Phone. Network returned after a short while. Very happy with Southern Phone. Prices are reasonable, and I have recommended Southern Phone to Friends. Show reply
