Sunday 8/2/2026. Appalled with the transparency of their veterinary care. We arrived with our 15y.o dog with rapid breathing, just before midnight & our pet was taken behind a locked door. We were the only patients in the waiting room, & we were told on 3 occasions that the vet will come in 10.mins & tell.us what was happening, this never… Read more

happened. A nurse came out to us & told us to sign a form asking if we wanted cpr & costs of $600-$900 roughly. When a vet did come into reception we asked her what was happening, & was told that she didn't know as she wasn't treating our dog, & wouldn't find out from the treating vet which we asked of her. She became very aggressive & told us we might be waiting 4 hrs. We were told by a nurse that our dog was on oxygen & had an ultrasound. We demanded to see the treating vet who eventually came out at 1.30am who wanted to keep our pet overn ight, do x-rays, blood work etc. We demanded to take our dog home, if our dog was going to pass we weren't letting them hold him.there, & we would see his regular vet at 9 am that morning. The vet would not say what he thought was wrong & we said to give him antiobiotics & a diuretic to help him breath, which he said he did at 1.35am!.not intravenously but a tablet! Who knows if this even happened, even though we were charged for these meds.but not given them to take with us. He also said he would email all clinical.notes to our regular vet, which didn't happen. Our vet had to obtain these notes.& no ultrasound was mentioned only how we were shouting at his staff. We left about 2.45 am after paying their inflated bill in disgust & watched our beloved dog all through the night & took him to his reg.vet at 9am. Disgraceful service. There were several.vets on duty that night & only 1 other.pet arrived the whole time we were there. Thank God our dog is going well on his meds, antiobiotics & diuretics which his regular put him on!

Vet took a kitten I intended on adopting – Do not take stray animals here if you want to adopt them. The vets can and will take them home without you ever knowing that was a possibility. The reception staff told us we'd have a chance at adopting the animal back but it was taken away before we ever got a chance at adoption. There was no communication or information given to us about this, despite being promised we would be contacted about any updates.

Terrible service – I normally don’t write bad reviews, but in this instance I am. I brought my gorgeous dog to Southpaws after hours service, waited 3 hours and not one person working there checked in on my dog. When I did go to reception to find out how long it would be, I was rudely informed that my dog was not a priority. Not even deserving of one star. Shame on you Southpaws. Do not recommend.

Pathetic Vet emergency service – admitted my cat in emergency for his leg injury. They called and said they fixed knee dislocation. 2 weeks later he is still limping on follow up they say, they must have missed the issue and his hip might have fracture. Knee is no longer sore and needs a surgery for Hip. Consult another surgeon and he says Hip looks fine it’s the knee which… Read more

needs attention and not sure if south paws fixed this in first place.

Poor service – Southpaw Malvern demonstrated total insensitivity to customer feelings. Wait time was almost 2 hours after appointment time. Communication was minimal.

Further injury to patient – Transferred my cat to Southpaws Moorabbin from Casey Pet Emergency for treatment as her stabilised cancer had started causing some problems and I was unable to get her into her oncologist. The reception staff were fantastic, caring and patient with a very concerned and stressed cat owner. After 4 days there, I took her to her oncologist. Once I… Read more

got her home, I noticed a kink in her tail and it felt ‘different‘. Her long fur covered it and she’s not one for liking her tail touched, so I thought maybe she’d strained it and I’d just keep an eye on it. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a hard lump where the bend was. Her oncologist noticed it as well during her appointment last week. I decided to take her to the vet as I thought it might be broken.

I was right. Apparently, the hard lump appears 4 weeks after the break. She also has a nasty abrasion, consistent with being caught in a door (possibly cage door), and on further investigation there is no response when pinching the end of her tail, so the nerve is damaged. The vet says to monitor it as if it deteriorates further, it will need to be amputated. The timeline for the break coincides perfectly with her hospital visits.

I immediately contacted Casey Pet Emergency and there is no record of the injury. I then contacted Southpaws Moorabbin. They were supposed to get back to me with both a reply on Missy and test results on her brothers Cardiopet BNP pro (heart murmur) taken 31/10. I’ve heard nothing. Missy must have let out quite a squeal for the damage done, so someone must know something.

When you’re paying thousands of dollars for the best care you can give your very ill fur baby, you do not expect her to return with more ailments/injuries than when she arrived.

Update10/23 (12 months) Still no contact. Still awaiting results for Cardiopet BNP paid for at time of release.

Update11/23. Thanks Southpaws. Missy's tail fell off today. Apparently if it had been assessed straight away it could possibly have been saved.
