Speedy Pop Up Tent

a tough nut – We have had the speedy for a couple of seasons. its so convenient with the included built in leds and easy up and down. other reviews call out leaks but it does have to be well guyed to keep the puddle from forming on top. as for the sand in WA could be an issue but lots of tents would be in that boat or desert. I camped at lake Dartmouth and the… Read more
weather put it all on. rain hail then a snow blizzard. wind was enough to flatten the camp with 80% of the crew suffering damage and a soggy cold night. luckily I was on hand to watch over my tent which flattened with the weight of ice and snow but was able to give it a good shake and get it stood up. no damage and still dry
Concern about this tent in rain – I have just used this tent for the first time in a short break with my 5 yr old son. The first evening it rained and when i put him to bed there were two areas where rain had already got in and made the bedding damp. I think it was caused by the wind bending the frame and causing the inner lining to touch the outer. This was compounded by a… Read more
sticking zip where the orange zip cover has been designed to taper to a point, it sticks every time unless closed at a snails pace... difficult when it's raining and your wanting to get in/out quickly. As another person mentioned the rain also falls straight into the tent when you open the door. In summery, very quick to put up, not good in the rain, my zip was a problem but it may be a one off?
Speedy 3man pop up tent – We have a speedy 3 man pop up tent. Great when set up on grass but was a huge problem at Denham in WA. Side vents let in the sand as it was whipped up. Bedding and pillows covered in sand, grit, I ended up wrapping a bin liner under the frame of the bottom of the tent and over the elastic at the bottom of the side windows. We loved this tent but felt the opportunity to close the vent would be good Show details
Can`t handle big rain – I had opportunity to test this tent during 30h constant rain. We had about 20cm of rainfall during that period. Tent has weak points. Two sides along longest sections - those with open "windows" (where you can get power line and opposite side) - is leaking there throughout the seals. Both sides. Definitely weak points.
2 man & 3 man – I have both the 2 and 3 man. They are both easy to set up and pack away. The pack away is a knack so watch a YouTube video before you camp for the first time. The 2 man is perfect for me using alone but you will need the 3 man if you are 6 foot or over. I love the side panels rolling up - great for star gazing and hot nights. Zip is good and… Read more
doesn’t stick and internal lights are great. Also love the little hanging shelf. Vestibule is big enough for my muddy hiking boots. Packs nice and flat to fit in car boot (I love that it doesn’t need to go on my roof rack). Tent fabric is quite sturdy. Highly recommended for car camping.
Not enough time yet – and Not enough time yet, as 2 nights I had been rained out with Thunder and lightning and lost my sleep I had a bit of rain inside probably my fault as i night was faultless As a idea I don't know why REFLECTIVE EYELETS are not installed as I had to camp later in the night I have put some YELLOW TAPE on either side of the eyelet to see better… Read more
in the dark and perhaps the tent pegs might be better
Also could we have the Tent Peg Bag bag in a Reflective Colour as I lost it on my first night
EPE Speedy 3 man Pop-up tent with LED lights & EPE Speedy 2 man Pop-Up tent – We purchased this tent as a quick Overnight tent for our son to sleep in whilst caravanning this year. Prior to purchasing this we had a 2 man version of it which was too short for our 170cm teenage son. His feet would be touching the bottom and his head almost brushing the other end. After using the EPE 2 man for several nights we returned it to… Read more
Anaconda (Australian Sports Store) for a hassle free refund and exchanged it for the 3 man version.
The price for the 3 man was $220, the 2 man $180.
Prior experience on the same 4 week trip with an Aldi $40 copy of this style of tent "fully seam sealed" was a disaster as that leaked water through the Unsealed floor/wall seams in a moderate shower, approximately 1 litre of water that soaked bedding.
My son slept through a torrential downpour last night, about 1 hour of heavy summer thunderstorm rain and wind followed by about 4- 5 hours of steady rain with water sometimes pooling under and around the tent before it could drain away. No trenching was done as we are in a caravan park at the moment where this is forbidden. No ground sheet or tarp was used.
Not one drop came in and I am seriously impressed with this EPE product.
Putting the tent up is as easy as the videos show although I would strongly recommend clearing the ground first of sticks rocks etc as the floor is very thin and I suspect easily punctured.
Putting the tent away is quite fiddly and definitely practise makes perfect. My son has put up and packed away this and the previous version at least a dozen times now and can fold it into its well made carry bag in about 2 minutes, after pulling out the 4 tent pegs and the 4 guy lines.
We thought the built in LEDs were a gimmick but in practice they work very well after plugging in to a USB battery pack (not supplied, we use Mophies) and go for several days whilst also charging his phone.
The three man is very spacious for one person up to probably 2 metres in height maximum.
And comfortable for 2 people with gear inside.
3 people would need to be VERY friendly and leaves room for very limited or NO gear inside.
Both tents are "squat and crawl" types with a maximum internal height of 1 metre so really only suitable for sleeping or storage.
You need to be fairly nimble and flexible to pack it away. Practise makes perfect.
Folded tent is a big flat disk around 1 metre in diameter and although the bag comes with back straps and a handle, due to its large diameter is not suitable for hiking so make sure it fits in your car etc!! We store ours under the double bed in our van or in the back of our 4WD on top of all the other luggage.
Pluses:
very quick to put up, literally seconds, watch the you tube videos. Clearing and selecting the spot, pegging it down take several minutes only.
Very quick to pack up. Takes about 2 minutes once you have the hang of it. Shorter people would probably need a hand as you need to reach quite far to create the "taco" needed to fold it.
Surprisingly watertight and robust considering the light, 3 Kg weight of it.
Very well ventilated inner tent with ultra fine mesh that doesn't let in even tiny bugs.
Built in LEDs which are actually very practical with a soft even light.
3 year warranty is surprisingly long. The previous years version had a 2 year warranty (still very good!) And No LED lighting for the same price.
Negatives:
The 2 man version, although very good, is really only just suitable for 1 shorter person, less than 170-160cm in height plus some gear inside.
I think 4 pegs to hold the tent down, both the 2 man and 3 man version is probably not enough. Instructions for 2 man actually show 6 pegs, 3 front and 3 rear. Our 3 man didn't have instructions in it.
Getting in and out of the tent in rain will allow water in as their is no vestibule or door flap.
If EPE made this tent with an additional front flap that could be rolled up and deployed independently of the door to provide entry/exit protection it would be as close to perfect I think for an overnighter or sleep only tent.
Extremely satisfied, highly recommended!!!!!
Pop Up Tents Are the way to go – Not been camping for a long time, so it was time to get back to old times. A long time since seeing a tent and most in the old days were bought in the shop and most took 1-2 hours to build up - Made of rags and metal frame. No idea what too look for, but I had a browse and asked around. Had a look in a BCF store, but from the sound of things… Read more
pop up tents are not very popular because most people seem to go for family tents.
Had a look at a loads of different makes and one caught my eye on ebay, but within 2 days it had gone (dam it).
I wasn't really looking for a tent that was full of all the bells really and needed a tent that as just for me and could build up in a instant. The speedy 2 person tent did the job and if I had a second chance I would got for the 3 person tent as for a bit bigger size. I think you can fit a king size single in this tent, I am yet to test it. The main thing is you just throw it on the ground and it pops up.
In the beginning I was fighting with it trying to put it back in its rap cover. When I got the idea and had a look on youtube I got the idea of how it goes back together. I just didn't have to be scared to put some force when folding it in.
I am looking forward too the camping trip in January with my new tent.
