The Stanley Pub
1 review
My friends and I visited a relatively new Cafe in Stanley in n.e Victoria. The Cafe is situated in what used to be The Stanley Pub. We wanted coffee and cake, a pretty straightforward order. There were three of us and we each took a turn in ordering. I did not watch the till or I would have said something, but a little later it dawned on me that I just handed over $23.80 for a small latte and a large piece of very dry cake. My friends each had a large coffee and a different but also large piece of cake. Their cakes were equally dry. I appreciate it was Easter Mon, so a surcharge applied, but I really cannot justify the $23 +. I asked for a hot latte, but it was just passable, as for the cakes, well they were just passable to. There are lots of reviews on their website. Most people comment on the "generosity" of the food. I am a bit gobsmacked by this, because I would have thought that quality comes before quantity. I didn't see any prices on display, for any of the cakes, but that could be my oversight. I know comparison is odious, but in this instance I have to. I live in Myrtleford, also a beautiful place, like Stanley. Chullo is one of our amazing Cafes and I buy a beautiful coffee and cake there, for $14 at most. Taste and quality are 100% above Stanley Cafe. The experience of the cake and coffee in Stanley cafe was disappointing at best. At worst, $6 for a very mediocre coffee and $17.80 for a VERY mediocre piece of cake (to me) are unbelieveably overpriced. I won't visit again!
