Problematic from almost the beginning – This unit was purchased in April 2018. It worked well for the first two and a half years, then started to not heat the water (intermittently). voluntary or express warranty) and that we were responsible for getting it fixed. Since July, we have had the plumber re-set the unit twice and a service representative 'service' the unit. It continues to malfunction, intermittently. Stiebel Eltron were contacted again in November 2022. We were, again, advised that the unit was out of warranty. This is not the case, according to our rights under the statutory warranty legislation. The unit cost nearly $3K and it is reasonable for use to expect that the unit will last 10 - 15 years. We do not believe that we have any option other than to replace the hot water system with another unit. We have tried to get Stiebel Eltron to come to the party. They have been unpleasant and recalcitrant to deal with. We will pursue a refund of the unit through the Small Claims Court. Whilst this is not ideal, we do not believe that we are getting value for our money. I would strongly recommend against purchasing any of these units, given our experience of the performance of both the unit and that of Stiebel Eltron.
Not suitable for OFF GRID applications – Was sold an WPL25 for Hydronic and hot water usage and the co efficient seemed rather impressive. Unfortunately it does not suit an alpine off grid application with the defrost cycle consuming 7-10 kWh of battery storage a night, even at temperature just on zero. tech system goes to Germany for advice and takes days. It your are off grid to do not use this product or this brand as it has very poor after sales support. No acknowledgement of incorrect recommendation.
Stunningly Great Customer Service – 3 years ago I installed a baby hot water heater after tiring of the long wait for hot water to arrive in the kitchen. After a bit of research I bought a Stiebel. on my porch this afternoon, less than 4 days. Zero hassle. Absolutely stunning customer service and a complete rarity in Australia IMO. So I'm recommending Stiebel to anyone who needs one of their products.
