Too many short comings for the price – I am somewhat disappointed with the FSA60 Considering the $600 expense and 5 month delay at getting it in the store. I was expecting better. The motor seems to weak to me, as it does not feel there is much torque in it. I'm going to try it on buffalo soon, and it does not feel it is going cope, it seems to only just do my kikuyu edge. The so called safety start is a pain in the wrist- You slide a lever forward than hold another down whilst operating the trigger.. as soon as you let go the trigger you need to go through the procedure again. I've already taped it up. The brackets that hold the handle onto the pole did not fit into plastic handle. I had to grind one of them. Also the bolts came with a flat washer not a nylock or a locking washer. Basic, to prevent it coming loose. Lastly ergonomics of the straight pole are out of balance. and there is no shoulder strap accessory.
Purchased in for $600.

Excellent Line Trimmer – I purchased the entire STIHL AK 36V battery system with 3 x AK30 batteries and fast charger which includes this FSA 60R line trimmer. This replaced my 7 year old Victa Vforce mower, trimmer, hedger, leaf blower/vac, pole hedger and pole pruner. The first thing to say about the STHIL AK garden tools range and this trimmer is the build and manufacturing quality is excellent, the best of all the battery gardening equipment I looked at and researched. Ryobi, Victa, etc are poorly made, plastic crap compared to the quality of STHIL.
The motor is located at the end of the pole at the line trimmer, this makes it a little bottom heavy but once you get used to it and set the D handle to your liking and balance, this trimmer is very easy to use. I found the FSA 60R very easy to use, I never get fatigued or sore arms from using this trimmer, its quiet and virtually vibration free. It has a very solid feel to it and is very safe to use.
The line trimmer guard gives excellent protection from flying grass and debris but can impede the line of sight when edging along pathways and garden edges. Once again it just takes a bit of getting used to and gives a very clean and sharp cut to pathway and garden edges.
It does an excellent job of trimming around plants and objects and gives a very clean cut.
The cutting head is a bump feed type and works okay, but must be used on a smooth surface to bump feed, I used on some concrete and found the plastic bump feed now has some deep scrapes and gauges. This could have been made with a much more robust material and I am concerned it will need replacing after a few years. STHIL do have replacements, but this bump feed part should last longer than a year or two.
Purchased in at Stihl Dealer for $250.
