Runs great , good power , poor suspension – The saw is very smooth, throttle response is amazing, power to weight ratio is awesome. I run a 28 inch bar and use it professionally for felling and bucking. Starts well , good power very weak suspension when cutting with the top of the bar - back cutting - floppy almost and bottoms out. I had to put heavier springs out of a 661 which helps but still not perfect . 1550$ paid and you have to reengineer it - stihl should have fixed this issue by now - I don’t understand. Having said all of that I use the saw daily and have bought two more for my crew , if Stihl would fix the suspension it would be the absolute best saw out there. I have been running Stihl s since 1988 and they are always way ahead of the competition.

Purchased in for $1,550.

The Ultimate Professional Chainsaw – Quite simply- best power to weight saw a professional can buy. Running a 23inch bar. Can even run a 36inch bar. Goes all day. Fuel injected is great. Once warm starts every time. Light weight for the power. Decompression button for cold start for less strain, starts 5th pull. Easy to tighten and clean.

Purchased in for $2,300.

MS 500i Perfection – I use my 500i every week, have had it now for 18 months or so, it’s ultra reliable, starts easily and has tons of grunt. Power to weight ratio is brilliant, I’ve had many saws over the years, but this one is a game changer. The fuel injection system works fautlessly. If I cloud rate it as 6 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I would.

The Stihl MS 500I is a game changer – This saw has great grunt, power and weighs with its 28" lite weight Stihl bar as much as my trusty Husqvarna 562xp with their standard 20" bar. To me reduced weight and easy starter is a no brainer, definitely if you have to walk up the hill with it. No choke to negotiate makes this a great starter. One negative rhat was surprising is that pine resin clogged up several times my tip and stopped the chain moving. This never ever happened with the grunty and trusty Husqvarna 562xp.
