Don't buy one! – I have had a Breville bread slicing guide and it has lasted the years well and done a great job, but age took its toll and I bought a new one; a Sunbeam this time. It is a totally crap product Don't buy one! Get a Breville. Differences: Slicing slots: Breville 17 Sunbeam 11 Slice thickness: Breville good medium size, suits toasting or untoasted. Sunbeam Thick so okay for toasting but too thick for untoasted. Slots for knife: I use an electric knife. Breville slots are wide enough to remove the blades by pulling out towards you after the cut is finished, ready for the next cut. Sunbeam the slot is too narrow and you have to lift the knife vertically. As the bottom of the crust is often still attached you have to lift the blades vertically out and replace it with the end of the blade inside the frame. Backrest: This is present in the Breville but is just a narrow horizontal strip in the Sunbeam. You really do need the Breville's back rest to hold the loaf in position as you cut.
So in summary the Breville is a well thought out effective tool. The Sunbeam is not. Check out pictures of both online. My Sunbeam is going to the tip shop. I'm buying another Breville.
Misguiding information resulting in poor workmanship – I ordered this product after reading reviews on the Sunbeam site. Each review advertising that it offers the option of thick or thin slices. I went so far as to phone two Harvey Norman stores to request more detailed information on it to make sure that it would do what I wanted. Thick or thin slices, and the bottom moving along and being high enough to securely hold the loaf. None of the information is correct, so here goes. This product is very simple in design, each side folds up with the intention of holding the loaf in place. There is no option on the guide that offers thick or thin slices, the slots are all the same thickness right the way along it. The bottom of the guide does not hold the loaf securely in place, nor does it slide along as you cut the loaf. The end keeping the loaf from sliding out is roughly 1" high. The slots are too wide which allows the knife to cut unevenly, not giving the same thickness with each slice. I have a very good bread knife, it cuts through pineapples, and it is not all that flexible so it was very disappointing to find uneven slicing. I have more luck slicing free hand, but I wished to buy a product that would give me thin even slices with each cut. Unfortunately this product does not. So if you are looking for what I was, then this product will not help you. Thankyou.
