Gone-ski ... after 3 years – So ..... I posted a review on this juicer 3 years ago after my first few uses. Today I went to use it and no action at all from the motor. It appears that since the last use 2 weeks ago and after doing no more exertion than sitting on the kitchen bench it has given up the ghost. Motor has died. I suppose 3 years of occasional use from a $55 appliance isn't too bad .... but I really wanted to use it today !!

Anyway, a few items of note after 3 years of (generally successful) use -

1. I always kept a skewer handy to clear blockages in the wee outlet from bowl to spout - which could have been a bit bigger in diameter ! 2. After about every 8-10 oranges or lemons I would have to pull it apart and wash all juicing parts because of the build-up of waste stopping the juicing action / overflowing the bowl 3. Once in a while during use the little motor would overheat and unilaterally suspend operations. I'd have to wait until it cooled off to resume. It's not the most robust or strong if it can't be used to juice 20-30 lemons or oranges in one session. 4. It's "non-slip" feet are not enough resistance, I always had to use a non-slip rubber kitchen mat under it

Having said all that, I haven't yet seen a citrus juicer on the market that I like any better, so I'm going to go shopping for the same model if it's still available.

Great little juicer – Bought this citrus juicer today as I was given a huge bag of small grapefruit, mandarins and beautiful oranges. Far too much to juice manually and it would be a waste not to. The juicer worked a treat. I have 2 x 1 litre jars if freshly pressed juice and it was super easy - cleaning was a breeze as well.

Happy so far. Does what packet says ! – I recently bought this as manually juicing citrus hurts my right hand and wrist, and we have a bumper crop this year. I didnt want to have to peel all fruit to feed it in, so this looked like what i wanted. Early days yet but I just juiced 8 large oranges, and whilst you still have to press down to operate the mechanism, its simply a matter of holding the fruit and applying pressure, no twisting involved, and i can use left hand just as well. Separating parts for cleaning afterwards quite easy.

One tip though .... make sure both the press and any glass or jug under the spout (which isn't terribly long) are on a stable non-slippery surface .... the machine twisted anti-clockwise as i pressed down to start and most of the juice from the first half an orange ended up all over the bench top. !

Easy squeezy - NOT – I have a few Sunbeam items in my kitchen and am generally happy with. Unfortunately, the JEM1000SS would have to be the least of my useable kitchen appliances. There are so many negatives to this appliance. Cons: 1. States designed for citrus in both sizing, large/small. Whether you are juicing large/small citrus, most of the juice is still left within. Added extra elbow motion to remove the juices. 2. There appears to be lack in design on how to squeeze the citrus. Once you have started to juice, the natural oils in citrus seeps onto your hand, therefore not allowing firm grip whilst trying to juice and especially limes, will slip out of your grasp. 3. Sadly a lot of waste 4. Wouldn’t recommend to the elderly as this will be more of a hindrance 5. I do question the Dust Cover, simply a hard plastic mould that fits over the top of juicer top. 6. Unfortunately, this equates to the same level of good old fashion hand juicing without the bling. 7. Definitely not worth the time and effort spent on the unit.

Pros: 1. Looks cute and not bulky, so may be left on bench or stored in cupboard. 2. Suitable price to suit all 3. Does have good wattage 4. As states, does have decent bench grip. The unit will stay intact 5. Auto cut off when unit heats. Will function again once cooled - repeated cycle but this is the norm for all new appliances

Overall, the reason of purchasing this appliance was to not bring out my main juicer, wanted a juicer for smaller juicing sessions. Guess good old elbow/wrist action will be back in use.

If you are seriously looking for juicer, you may need to spend more for positive results.
