Poorly designed – This Kettle is too heavy especially when filled with water and the water does not pour evenly particularly when you just boil enough water to make 2 cups. It does tend to overboil.  Show details

Great kettle BUTs depend on the user – Its just what I was looking for in a kettle. Do not underestimate the weight of this kettle when even half filled, and take care when pouring as it needs to be fully tilted before it pours, with hot water that could be an issue for people with wrist issues or for elderly or people with arthritis. I personally didnt buy the kettle for its blue… Read more ·  1

light feature but do appreciate the glass construction to maintain the scale build up. Previous kettles have been noisier than this, and it heats quickly even when filled. Would recommend.

Reliable kettle with nice visual effects – Love the benefits of glass; one can see immediately how much mater is being added; the blue colour adds to the overall visual effect, especially when the water reaches boiling point. I use filterd water which overcomes internal staining of metal parts. I can also confirm that the boil dry function functions as designed, with no adverse effects… Read more ·  1

to the later operation of the kettle. You need to be patient tho, and wait for 1/2 hour or more for the kettle to re-set.

There is some noise when boiling the water, but I can live with that.

I have had mine for 3 years now and am complety happy with it.

After four years, so far, so good – I have edited only the title of this review – from "After six months, so far, so good" to "After four years, so far, so good" – because I think that adding that longer-term perspective to the review might be more helpful to the reader. In May 2019 I wrote a lengthy account of my parting with Kambrook's Aquarius BPA Free KAK60 electric kettle, and… Read more ·  1

how my theory of why that kettle failed guided me to look beyond plastic kettles for a replacement. In looking at readily available steel and/or glass kettles at a couple of local retailers, I was most attracted to the Sunbeam Cool Blue Glass KE9500 kettle. While the balance of reviews on this site for that kettle was concerning, some reviewers were clearly delighted with their purchase. Maybe there had been teething problems with quality control that had since been sorted on the feedback of such unfavourable reviews as can be seen here? In a possible victory of heart over mind, I rolled the dice and bought the Cool Blue Glass kettle anyway. However, I also decided not to review the kettle until I had been using it for at least six months, and that time has now elapsed.

The executive summary is in the title: so far, so good. This kettle has been working just fine for me, and I have no gripes so far with having purchased it.

Having until now always owned plastic kettles, I noticed at first use that the steel and glass kettle was conspicuously heavier to pick up. That is not a problem for me personally, and it should for most people be a matter of quick and automatic mental adjustment. However, it should be mentioned for the consideration of prospective purchasers with seriously frail hands accustomed to handling just lightweight plastic kettles.

Possibly because the body of the kettle is of glass rather than plastic, its spout is less thick and more sharply curved than I have seen in plastic kettles. The result: my kettle does not dribble water from the spout once I've lifted it back into vertical orientation after pouring. "Post-pour spout dribble" is something that I'd become accustomed to as just as fact of life with using kettles, so it's a pleasure to see a kettle cutting a clean break in the water stream once pouring is completed.

From commencement of use, a spotty white residue has progressively built on my kettle's stainless steel heating plate in a three-quarter ring around its periphery. Sunbeam advises in the owner's manual that this is normal and is not rust, and offers a couple of suggestions on how the kettle should be regularly descaled. I've used Breville's Kettle Cleaner BKC250 – favourably reviewed elsewhere on this site – and the kettle has cleaned up as new.

A couple of people have commented that they did not get the expected light show from the blue LED light. I'm not sure whether the lighting on their kettles has been faulty, or whether photography of the kettle creates unrealistic expectations. I took a photograph of my kettle in subdued lighting during a full rolling boil, and the water looks much more solidly blue in the photograph than when seen "live" because photography is necessarily over a very brief time lapse that nevertheless enhances the effect. When the water is stable, it won't look blue from the LED because the light is travelling through a transparent and uniform medium. Once bubbles appear, that uniformity is disrupted, the path of the light is bent randomly through the bubbles and becomes more visible to the onlooker, and the stronger the bubbling, the more pronounced the visual effect. The light show is beautiful, and I'm not disappointed with it.

Looks and works good so far – I would recommend using filtered water (if possible) as I never have problems with a calcified ring, "rusty" bottom etc (filtered water is always better for you anyway). I had this kettle for a few weeks now and love being able to see the inside of it without having to open the lid. It boils quick and turns off within a reasonable time after it boils. Reasonable price from Target.  Show details ·  1

Good kettle but doesn't light up – My kettle is brand new and it shows somewhat of a ring of blue light at the bottom of the kettle and on the switch. BUT it's not showing as advertised. I.e. it doesn't illuminate the boiling water- doesn't look fancy in anyway..... waste of money. Show details

Can’t live without coffee – Can’t fault this kettle. Boils very quick even from tap water. At the start I was a bit cranky about the bottom of the kettle. As you could see calcified ring on it but after purchasing a cheap kettle cleaner all good. The blue light admitting from it looks cool unreal in the dark. Ohh nearly forgot others should know that all kettle elements go yuck and sort of rusty. Only difference here is you can see it.  Show details ·  1

Lovely kettle – This kettle is relatively quiet and quick to boil. Love the look of it. Our water does cause a build up of minerals on the bottom (invisible in non glass kettles). Looks like rust but it isn't. This is very easily dealt with by boiling some slices of lemon in the kettle for about 20 minutes then letting the lemony water stand in it overnight.… Read more

Comes up like new! Only complaint is that it doesn't protect against absent minded people who fail to put water in before turning it on. Killed it. Need to buy another.

Looks cool but does not last – Out of warranty by 6 months and now throwing it away. Lid started to pop up on its own when kettle came to the boil and kettle not shutting of because of open lid. It's not worth spending big money on kitchen appliances anymore. Buy cheap from the supermarket and Kmart and it will likely out last the dear ones. If it fails after 12 months, then you have not wasted good money.  Show details

Rust rust rust – Only had this kettle a few days, bad rust appeared on inner base. Is this good for your health? Returned it to Harvey Norman, they tried to fob us off with a cleaner! My husband did remind them of our consumer rights and they reluctantly gave a full refund. Don’t bother with Sunbeam products.  Show details

Good mid level kettle – Decent product with a nicely lit glass, the boiling is barely noticeable and boils really quickly. The opening is not too big so you can't really give it a good clean, better chance buying those cleaning agents. Good mid level kettle for just on/off, can't complain. If you are looking for something bit cheaper, try the Brievlle.  Show details

Love this Kettle – I've always wanted a glass kettle so when i needed i new kettle, i got one and i love it. it's quiet, i think it's great, it's abit pricier than your normal kettle but it's worth it. I love you can see when it needs a clean, normal plastic kettles get quite dirty but no one sees that because it's not that visible.  Show details

Only 3 weeks old but already better then other glass kettles – Yes, the blue light does look nice. It is quiet for its speed. The kettle is light to lift and use a small amount of calcium build up on base not easy to clean off with small lid opening. The price was right for what you get. Now as long as the lid keeps working it will be a good kettle.  Show details

love this kettle! – I almost didn't buy this kettle due to reviews. However I'm glad I went ahead anyway with my purchase. Suits our kitchen well against a glass splash back. The water kettle just do its work – I bought this from 2nds world for a discount of $9, and they actually shipped a second hand one with water mark and scrubbing mark on it. functioned well as described, nothing to complain, I want to get this kettle as I look for a BPA free kettle and this one has glass walls and tested for BPA free. Any glass Kettle have to use silicon glue to stick the glass to stainless base so I am not sure how long can this silicon last and not leech things.

Glass wall could be super hot after boiling so avoid touching it while boiling. The stainless base is easy to build up tars, but it's not a big deal, I cleaning it every couple of months by pouring diluted vinegar/sliced lemon into the kettle and boil it for two cycle then get back it's new look.

In the end it's an average kettle with no special features. If you find a kettle built with double layer pure stainless body with no plastic windows, that's true bpa or plastic additives free, go for it if it's priced at the same or a little bit higher instead of this glass one.

Disappointed – My sister and I purchased the kettle after seeing my nieces, like her we loved the clear glass because you can see inside and know that it's clean. Only a few weeks in a ring of rusty corrosion appeared on the bottom of the kettle! Very disappointing! Only good thing now is the blue light.  Show details

I've only found it okay for the last few days – The kettle wasn't on sale and I bought it for about $80 from David Jones at the Westfield in Woden ACT. The power usage for the kettle is quite melodramatic at 2400 Watts. The good thing is that its BPA free as claimed by the manufacturer and also easier to clean than a conventional plastic or metal kettle. It's quiet, but not more so than… Read more

other kettles of its price bracket.

The manufacturer claims a 3-way safety system.... hmm.. I don't see it really.

The so-called Schott-Duran glass... what ever that means, states that the glass is made from heat resistant DURAN glass... as previously mentioned. I don't know what it's trying to refer to. All I know is when I boil the water and where I did a test by running my fingers gently against the glass externally.... and well, "heat resistant"... I don't think so, from my experience it was really hot.

And therefore, the marketing information is misleading at best and most certainly breaches some Australian legislative statute. If it is not Sunbeam's intention to do so, then re-word the marketing so that average people can easily understand what it is trying to advertise including their manuals.

Badly designed and poorly constructed – This product has burnt me. The kettle is supposed to be automatic, but I usually turned it off myself. The lid doesn't seal properly so steam escapes from the top, and it keeps boiling. This superheats the lid. Rust – It was a nice object in the kitchen until I noticed some corrosion on the bottom plate. I'm not sure how this product was allowed to go to market as they must have noticed this problem when it was tested. A bad customer experience Sunbeam - you should recall the product!  Show details

Faulty product, should be recalled by Sunbeam – I purchased this kettle with high hopes after reading local reviews, but I must be unlucky because I have had two of them now and they have both gone rusty at the bottom. An expensive dissapointment – Whilst I had no problems whilst this kettle worked, I expect a $90 kettle to last more than 15 months. It no longer works at all. My previous kettle (not Sunbeam) lasted 15 years. I would have just got the kmart version had I known I would be contributing to landfill this early anyway.!  Show details

Will not buy again – We purchased this lovely looking kettle 6th March 2016, and returned it yesterday as rust appeared inside the stainless steel element. Pretty but flawed – Had this kettle for a month. The plastic clip for the lid broke so it couldn't be opened to fill. However very pretty in the dark when boiling..... Couldn't recommend it however as I can't see it lasting very long with daily use. Avoid at all costs. The blue light is a gimmick and it's a shame they didn't spend more on parts.
