QC is of concern for the outside of the Toaster – Just bought the toaster, and did the trial run when you first purchase it 'RUN IT ON MAXIMUM SETTING, FOR 5 MINUTES WITHOUT ANY TOAST' I did this and looked into the toaster, at least 70% of the element areas were not 'glowing' yet other sections of the toaster were, using a temperature gun some elements were reaching 250c (degrees) where other… Read more

areas were only reaching 200c (degrees). I thermally checked the outside of the toaster, the BUTTONS were getting to a lovely toasty temperature of 50c (degrees). The buttons should not be heating up at all, well I'd allow for a bit of heat but 50c is quite high so the toaster has bad insulation/thermal properties.

Got it at a discounted price, since display stock but nonetheless as per most toasters they never are perfect and seem to have a quick failure rate.

Your right to repair – I just want Sunbeam engineers to know, I see your planned obsolescence design and I know you feel ashamed. I drilled out the security screw, disassembled the unit, lubricated the front lever rails and used pliers to bend back the cheap plastic hook to keep the toaster engaged. That's all that was needed to fix a unit which failed to stay engaged… Read more

Don't waste your money – This toaster was not expensive, which is just as well, lasted just over 2 years and never toasted bread evenly. It never seemed to be able to toast bread evenly, no matter what setting or type of bread you used. I just wonder if they ever do quality checks on their products (if it doesnt toast well, then it isn't a toaster)!!!! Show details

Perfect toaster for anything as long as a pizza! – This was by far our family's favourite household item. We used it everyday for toasting bread. It's so convenient and easy where 4 pieces of bread or 2 long bread rolls cut in half can be toasted at once, the magic is that the bread toasted evenly. Another I love about this toaster is that there is a long tray at the bottom, where you can… Read more

easily take it out to empty any fallen crust then insert it back in. Not like other toasters that don't have this option.

The toaster looks and feel very stylish with a sleek finish that will go along with any old to modern style kitchen. Very easy to maintain and a quick wipe down to clean.

Very simple to function with the usual toaster functions like heating temp knob, defrost button and cancel button.

It lasted for 1 good year. Well it may have lasted longer who knows if I hadn't dropped it!!! Long story short I had it on my kitchen bench, while I was cleaning, I accidentally pushed one thing then another thing hit the toaster which causes it to fall of the kitchen bench. Oops! Saw two small pieces of black plastic on the floor along with the toaster. I picked it up, nothing was bent or broken on the outside so i put it ut back up. I was happy it looks fine. But until the next day, my heart broke... The pushed the lever down to toast my bread, the lever and bread springs right up. From that moment I figured the thingy inside the toaster that was suppose to hold the toast down were broken, hence the two pieces of plastic I thought didn't matter Lols.

Rang up the manufacturer, they can't really do much so sadly I had to let it go. Wish i hadn't dropped it.

Time to save up for another toaster I guess?

Worst toaster I've ever had – We bought this toaster from a gift voucher from JB Hi-fi for $50. The toaster itself looks nice, and has one or two features which make it attractive, in particular being able to take a peek at the toast to see if it's cooked, without breaking the cooking cycle. We bought this particular model as we like to bake our own breads, or buy some… Read more

artisan style sour dough loaves, which can last forever but only good after a few days in the toaster. We tried this at least 30 times, and each time the toaster would cook the bread unevenly, usually burning one end of the bread and not cooking the other (after following directions in the manual for cooking "long slices".

The slots for the bread appeared wide and would close slightly to centre the bread. This is both good and bad. Good because it tries to cook it evenly on both sides. Bad because it doesn't work very well and if trying to cook something like a waffle or a crumpet - it just tends to mash the food and break the surface rendering it useless.

I've had a $20 tiffany toaster in the past that I bought at safeway, and it worked better than this toaster did. The only thing this Sunbeam did well was cooking single slices of manufactured bread, which you can buy much cheaper toasters to do.

This toaster is 6 months old, and I couldn't even be bothered trying to get sunbeam to rectify it given how useless the product has been. After incinerating some bread today (on a low setting) and the bread getting stuck in the toaster itself, I just walked it to the bin outside and threw it out. I feel horrible about such wastage, but I can honestly say if the product had been even remotely decent at doing what we got it for, I'd have kept it.

Sunbeam really need to quality test their products a lot better than this. I usually go for more expensive appliances from Breville or Kitchenaid, as we couldn't bring ourselves to pay big money for something to toast some bread. However it's far more energy efficient to do it in an appliance than in the electric grill that came with our oven.

Not Really 5 Stars but read why – OK so I did lots of research on buying a Toaster and what I have found is that not one Toaster on this site got a consistently high rating (except for this toasters little brother). My conclusion is that it really doesn't matter too much which one you buy as every single one could have issues - so I bought a cheap one! So why did I give this 5… Read more

stars - 2 reasons. First and foremost it is not a bad toaster but it is getting caned by people who I think have faulty units. Mine has been fine so far so this is an attempt to bring up its average stars.

My second reason is more to do with value for money and one VERY useful feature. Consistently I read that "my toaster does not brown evenly" (or something similar) and certainly my past experience has been that one side is usually more toasted than the other. However this toaster has the "Quick Check / Look and See" feature that allows you to lift up the toast mid session to check it without affecting the timing cycle. Now I have used this feature I think this is a MUST HAVE on ANY toaster you choose to buy (not just this one).

Why? because if you do get a toaster that does brown unevenly on one side you can just flip it mid way through and even it up. Yes I know that a toaster is supposed to do this automatically but read the reviews - I think every single review I read said "uneven browning" (or words to that effect) somewhere.

So I give this 5 stars because it is cheap and I can flip it mid toast - which is what I have done with every toaster I have ever owned at some point. Oh and yes - mine toasts slightly more on one side than another but I don't care because I did not spend $149.00 on a "super-dooper" Breville that may/probably will do exactly the same thing (because I almost did).

You know,it actually must be harder than we would think to make a toaster that can toast bread well otherwise I would not have read so many reviews for so many brands complaining about it! OK rant over. I hope you found this useful - if so up vote it!

Crap toaster – Worst toaster I have ever owned has lasted only a short period of time and now the lever to push bread down doesn’t go far enough for toasting to begin. I have bought a lot of Sunbeam products over decades and they have all been excellent this is very poor. Show details

Useless toaster – Bought this toaster 5 months ago. I chose it for it’s wide slots to toast sour dough sliced bread. Very Disappointing! – Purposely purchased a Sunbeam because “Sunbeam used to be quality at an affordable price” but sadly this product has tarnished the name. toast catches fire. The spring is so tight, the toast shoots out into the floor. Even though there is a crumb tray, there are always crumbs under the toaster. The handle to push the toast down is very tight and of very poor quality. Yet another product made in the Orient, with no quality control checks carried out. It irks me even more that I paid $40 for landfill & have only had it for a month!

Only toasts one side – We have had two of these toasters & both within a couple of months stop toasting on one side so you need to flip your bread to toast both sides - every time. Very annoying. Not fit for purpose - dangerous – We initially purchased the product due to design & well known brand. Sunbeam was always a preference for 3 generations. fire. Sunbeam reluctantly replaced it - on the basis of they found fault. Today, just over one year since the replacement was received, it shorted out when cooking. A large bang was heard and our safety switch was triggered. I would be very very reluctant to recommend purchasing this product to anyone as I believe it is dangerous and not fit for purpose.

Great long slots, but only lasts 2 years – I've bought this toaster twice as I really like the long and wide slots, however, both times the toaster has only lasted 2 years. Is this normal? I'm a bit nervous about getting it again and only lasting 2 years. There doesn't seem to be much else on the market in long slots. It seems to have cut out our electricity. When we turned power back on, everything worked but the toaster. We did nothing other than put in 4 slices of toast. Show details

Its a breadwarmer, not a toaster – We had this toaster for about 6-months before I retired it to the hallway cupboard, only to be used in emergencies or if our new Toaster dies. I will probably never use it again. It either only warms the bread up or burns it to an inedible state. Also, all of the markings and button labels rubbed off very quickly, so its tough to work out what setting you are putting it on. Stay away from this toaster - waste of money. Show details

The worst toaster we have ever owned – This is a truely terrible toaster. It hasn't worked properly from day 1 and I really regret buying it. Disgraceful – We bought this toaster about 6 months ago, and honestly we believe it to be one of our worst purchases ever. Uneven and erratic – It is so hard to find a decent toaster! Buy a different toaster – This toaster will alway cook your toast unevenly as the middle element heats up far more quickly than the outside elements. only one with this fault.

I found a way around this while my toast is cooking l turn it around in my toaster then both sides cook evenly.

It's a little bit annoying but at least my toast is right, if I didn't do this one side would be brown and on the other side it wouldn't be cooked, that's how bad it is.

Sunbeam if you're listening, all you need to do is have less element in the middle of your toaster, more element equals more heat, it's that easy and then you would have an awesome toaster.

Initial review:

After purchasing this toaster I looked online to get a digital copy of the manual. At this time I noticed so many negative reviews of the toaster. I thought I should take time to write and say that the one I have purchased seems to be working well. It's not a particularly expensive toaster and doesn't toast quite as evenly as $200 toasters that I have owned in the past; but it is of more than acceptable quality for the $30 that mine cost.

As it has two long slots it is useful to be able to toast longer than average pieces of bread.

I have no real complaints and would recommend this over no name cheap toasters.

Update: my new toaster that they sent me to replace the failed one has been perfect. No issues at all and is performing well for a couple of years now.
