So disappointed in this Sunbeam Toaster – Over 55 years, household of 2 adults, then 4 children, only ever had 2 toasters, Sunbeam of course. In 2013, purchased Sunbeam 6220. Now 1 person household, with dead toaster. Not good enough, Sunbeam. Show details

Had this toaster since 2009, it has been really good and no issues but 1. This 1 issue has come up at late 2024 where the plastic handle lever where it slots into the metal slot has become weak and brittle. I pulled it out and used some cello tape to hold it stronger. But was hoping to see if sunbeam have a similar handle that will fit that I can… Read more · 4
buy to replace to worn out one. Toaster has served me well and still using it but just being careful with the lever. Toaster still going strong after 16 years of regular usage.

Great Toaster – A toaster that does what it's supposed to do - finally! This is a simple, stylish and inexpensive stainless steel finish 2 slice toaster that has nice wide slots for crumpets and toasts a beautifully even slice - controls are easy to understand and operate - a pleasure to use. Cooks consistently and evenly Nothing at all:) Show 2 replies
Looks good and toasts well! – We've had this for just under a year and so far have had no issues with it whatsoever. We didn't have any special toast requirements (other than the ability to toast 4 pieces of bread at once) so we really only chose it based mainly on looks and brand reputation, as well as price. Looks good and feels well-made (quite sturdy). A known brand.… Read more
Toasts four pieces of bread. It would be good if the 'cancel' button was more obvious- although I think that's just me thinking it should be a different button (force of habit from another toaster)
Good – Seems to do the job, toast is toasted fine and the kids are not complaining. This is my biggest test, if their happy I'm happy. Different settings work fine and it looks good. looks good, reasonably priced if you find it on sale. Does not pop the bread out high enough, could see this being a problem with crumpets and muffins.
Negative reviews
Disappointed – I bought this toaster a year or so ago. The main problem is that from early on there were issues with the lever staying down. It came good for a while but has failed again. I'm disappointed, being an owner of many Sunbeam products over the years. I'm hoping Sunbeam is looking into this as I'm seeing this issue come up in several reviews for this product.
Hi Steph, Sorry to hear of the issues you are having… Read more
Would Be Faster Blowing On The Bread Than Using This Toaster – Slow and ineffective. Buy something else. It really isn't a toaster, more like a very slow warmer of bread. Do not waste your money. Anyway, look for another budget toaster and enjoy. Nothing Slow, functions not worth mentioning. Takes up a lot of space, if you want to waste space it's ideal.
Only toasts on one side – Waste of money. Worked for a few months then stopped. Didn't fit an average home-slice of bread, yet it has a message about how to toast crumpets printed through the centre top.

This piece of garbage replaces the other pure elements toaster piece of gargabe – Do not buy sunbeam toasters. Believe me people I bought the sunbeam pure elements toaster but I experienced the same issue as everyone else it just had flashing lights and beeped at me. I then thought I was just unlucky as sunbeam had such a good name over the years. Wrong! I purchased a sunbeam maestro TA6420 on the 7th August 2015 which only… Read more
toasts on one side. Another piece of garbage. I now know sunbeam can't manufacture toasters they are just rubbish and overpriced. I will now try and get a Breville or at least a stick with bread on the end and put over a fire!
Won't buy Sunbeam products ever again – An overpriced piece of disposable junk. The plastic lever is designed to fail prematurely, It broke after barely a year of use. When I rang to request a replacement I was told they no longer make that part despite the toaster still be in production... I repaired the lever myself with some steel and devcon. It takes about twice as long to unevenly… Read more
toast a couple of pieces of bread than the 5 dollar K-mart special we have at work (which gets 1000% more use) If you can't make a toaster that works properly I don't trust you could make anything worth my money. Never again.
Gets very hot – The toaster was OK to start with (never fantastic), however my main gripe is I have always found that the metal piece through the centre of the toaster gets very hot. If you are toasting muffins or something shorter than a normal piece of bread, it doesn't pop up high enough and you end up trying to work out how to get it out without burning your… Read more
fingers. Definitely wouldn't have been happy to put up with this if I had children.
Recently the filaments in the centre gave out (obviously not far out of warranty), and also kept tripping the power.
Finally tossed it out and got a different new one in the mid season sales...!
Looks can be deceiving – Looked good on the kitchen bench along with other stainless steel appliances, but performance as a toaster woeful. As other reviewers have said, it only toasts one side of the bread and takes such a long time that the bread is dried out and hard when it finally pops up. The elements don't heat up evenly. After a few months persevering, I… Read more
purchased a $14 toaster from K mart which does a brilliant job even though its cheap and cheerful.. The sunbeam has been in back of cupboard for over a year now. Couldn't bring myself to throw it away (Looks too good) and not fair to give to op shop as any future owner would have same problem. I wish I had read these reviews before now and I would have returned it. I will ring Sunbeam tomorrow just to see what they say in the light of all these negative reviews.
An update to above review. I contacted Sunbeam and explained that it was over a year since I… Read more

Worst Toaster we have every had – We have purchased this toaster after it was recommended as the best toaster in a magazine, and right from the word go it has toasted unevenly and the toast has never popped up well enough to grab hold of the toast, making it a dangerous exercise trying to get the toast out with fingers and knife. This toaster should be banned on this ground alone.
Not recommended – This toaster was never great, it took too long to toast & therefore the bread was always dry & brittle - although it did toast evenly - but now, 20 days after the warranty ran out it gave up the ghost for good. Not happy. Also, the pop up didn't extend far enough for crumpets or muffins so there were a few burnt fingers trying to get them out.
Half baked – After 3 months of service, this $60 toaster from Myer has decided to only toast one side of the bread. Also the "toast" does not pop up high enough so I have to unplug the toaster and tip it upside down to get the toast out. The slots are nice and wide but such uneven toasting is an element-al flaw Sunbeam.
Almost unusable – Bought this on 'Sunbeam' reputation and past purchases. Toasts really unevenly but the worst part is you have to stick a knife in to get toast out! (after turning off at power point each time you toast). Really disappointed. Sent an email to Sunbeam and they said just return to place of purchase.
Sunbeam Toastum – Have always bought Sunbeam toasters and irons so was disappointed with this product. Purchased the four slice, Toastum toaster all of two years ago after the toaster we had owned for many years which had a radiating cylindrical bar element was destroyed not returned after contents were damaged in flood. After 12 months, the new toast would not… Read more
cook evenly, was inconsistent in performance. Toast would be undercooked or would burn. If cooking several batches, the later batch would burn indicating a change in temperature or poor cut off indicator not functioning properly. The wall of the toaster although claimed to be " cool wall" was sufficiently hot that if touching it would be too hot to handle! Have since recently replaced it with a stylish enamel looking De Longhi four slice at twice the price which looks good decor wise and seemed less tinny, so am hoping that lasts longer and is more efficient as many toasters seem to be so " tinny" and with flimsy elements. Many don't last their warranty period like ours, just out of warranty. Crumpet facility with wide slots and supposedly caterning for the even cooking of both sides. Uneven cooking, unreliable, in built obsolescence with product malfunctioning just out of warrantyand so unable to be challenged? Hot exterior of metal .Inner and outer elements toasting at different rates and patchy toasting ranging from burnt to raw requiring flipping and re setting cooking time. Too much messing about.
Is it really that hard – I would of thought we would have perfected something as simple as a toaster but no. Totally unevenly cooks all pieces of toast, you need to flip and spin pieces around to toast an entire side. Less than half of the wire elements heat up red hot, the rest seem to have been installed poorly/incorrectly and rest against the metal chassis of the… Read more
toaster (here the heat dissipates and the wire does not get hot enough).
If I put four slices on there is an assortment of partially cooked and uncooked sides, I can do a better job using the grill on my oven. For a four slice toaster I can actually cook one good crumpet or muffin at a time if I put it down one end and face it in the right direction. Where do we start, see above, it actually can't make toast to a basic standard. And now the plastic handle to lower the toast has broken off, at just under $80 I expected a lot more.
Update: plastic handle has now broken. Unable to obtain replacement part from Sunbeam, the toaster… Read more
Can't even toast – At first I could not believe how bad this toaster toasted. Thought it was broken. Asked assistant if it was meant to heat on only one side. He thought it must be broken.Gave me another which did exactly the same. Obviously if only one side of the elements go red it cooks unevenly. It should not be allowed to call itself a toaster under consumer laws. Pity as it looks good. The look only. It doesn't toast

Any quality Control - Are you just buying cheap imports and slugging your name on it? – WIsh I had looked on here first but HOW HARD IS IT TO MAKE A TOASTER THAT DOES IT's JOB? As per other reviews toasts one side much much than other side, burns toast on almost lowest level and manages to dry out toast incredibly at same time.. Takes ages to cook. You can visually see the inside elements much brighter than the outside ones. Never… Read more

Extremely disappointed – Very disappointed. First of all I have to have the toaster dial all the way up just to get brown toast - not black. Maybe not a bad thing as I'll never have burnt toast. Second, the high rise is nothing. I still need to get a knife into the toaster to get my toast out. Third, it only cooks half of the bread. The top half is brown the bottom… Read more
half is still white. I actually have to turn the bread over and retoast it to get a fully toasted piece of bread.
We haven't tried the crumpet button but if I need to have the toaster setting at maximum just for regular toast I'm not going to hold my breath.
Looking for a new toaster already and it's only 24 hours old. It will take over sized bread. Doesn't toast the full slice of bread no matter what size as it misses about 2cm on the bottom

Disappointing – Previously owned a Sunbeam Quantum and loved the features. Very disappointed in this model. High lift feature barely raises it 1cm and seems to start much lower than our previous toaster. Cannot get toast out easily, and get burnt fingers trying to get crumpets or muffins out. Actually thought this function was faulty & took back for an exchange,… Read more
however is a fault in the model as next one the same. Toasts unevenlly and needs to be closely watched to avoid burning. Very disappointing. Wish I exchanged for a different model instead of another of the same. Looks good Unven toasting. High Lift lever doesn't lift anywhere near enough.
Purchased March 2013 returned January 2014. Lift function not really helpful, inconsistent and… Read more (+1 reply)
The return mechanism keeps breaking – We purchased one and received a second under warranty and both toasters performed terribly, uneven toasting, and had the toast return mechanism break with in six months. In the end we ended up filling a milk bottle with water, tieing some string to it and using it as a weight to keep the toaster on. I am a little worried though that this product… Read more
will one day burn my house down. I frequently use my grill instead of the toaster because it does a better job.
Cons?... yes Sunbeam did con me into purchasing an expensive piece of junk.
Uneven toasting – Toasts half of the bread and the bread has to be put in toaster again - and carefully watched to get a reasonable result. Returned first Sunbeam ( Retro ) for same reason. Use wooden toaster tongs to extract toast from toaster . Why can't we get a toaster that functions ? Loved the look of the Retro. The Toastum is very ordinary.
What a piece of [censored word removed]! – Its almost as if Sunbeam didn't even test this toaster before they put it on the market. You can't toast a single slice of bread or it will be burnt on one of the top corners and leave the rest uncooked. If you toast only two slices, the tops will burn while the bottom of the bread is still uncooked. Stay away from this [censored word removed]… Read more
overpriced appliance. My last $10 toaster did a much better job.
Mainly that it does not perform its only function.
Ours is exactly the same - after 2 replacements with the same issue we have today swapped for a Russell Hobbs.
Shocking – Raw and burnt toast on the same slice. No pop up noise, so it gets cold. Doesn't pop up high enough to get toast out. Sunbeam should be embarrassed to sell this and so I won't be buying a product from them again. Wasn't cheap but not badly priced. Yuk Long slots Heaps. Main one is it's toasting ability!
A joke – The toaster looks great, is reasonably priced, and we needed a four slice toaster that was long - instead of having four individual slots. That's where the positives end... We eat homemade sourdough bread, and on the highest setting it is only just slightly getting brown - I shouldn't have to put toast down twice in the year 2013. The high-lift… Read more
feature is a joke, it lifts less than a centimetre! Uneven toasting, cheap feeling buttons and knobs. Hard to engage the lever. Wish I had looked here before buying! Looks good, long rather than four slots. Doesn't toast our bread. Doesn't really have a high-lift function. Uneven toasting. Cheap feeling components
Cant get the bread out – The toaster is ok. It toasts. The problem is that it is advertised as having a "High-lift" toasting lever. For the bread I use, which I admit is a low-profile bread, the lever does not lift the bread high enough. In order to get the bread out of the toaster, I need to unplug it and stick a knife in. Seeming it is advertised as having a… Read more
"high-lift" lever, I personally find the product terrible.
As for other features, seems fine. Toasts good and its speedy. Toasting ability Can not remove low-profile bread without sticking a knife in to toaster
Don't bother – A pretty crummy toaster. As others have said, it cooks unevenly, burning one part and undercooking another. My biggest complaint though is that the "extra lift" is useless and the toast (ciabatta etc) is often sitting too low to reach without burning your fingers. You have to watch it as it burns one piece, and undercooks the next on the same setting. Poor form Sunbeam. cooks unevenly
The clown of toasters – All of the above that other reviewers said, and it either grabs my homemade bread and tears it when you remove it -- or it fires it clean out of the toaster.
Wors't ever – This toaster was designed on a monday with a hangcover as previous reviewers said burns the bottomor top and leaves the other end undercooked. The crumpet facility just drys the crumpet out. Had it replaced no different than the first one.Very poor results from sunbeam on the complaints department. Just out of warrentyand the push down knob breaks. No more sunbeam for me For the cost it is avery poor excuse for a toaster
Avoid at all costs – This thing is a disaster. We bought it because has recognisable brand and looks good. Goes to show - neither of those are god indicators!! This thing is just not capable of reliably toasting a piece of bread. It either undercooks or unevenly toasts bread. Left unattended, it burns 70% of the time. Looks nice Burns every slice / toasts half of the slice at least twice as much as the other half.
Struggle town – Purchased the Sunbeam Toastum TA6220 on 23/10/11 and have been struggling with making the thing work. We have been trying everything possible to get the device to perform its design brief - toast two slices of bread. One side gets brown-ish the other remains splendidly almost untoasted. The buttons to control the frozen/cancel/crumpet settings… Read more
require a herculean shove to make them work grudgingly and don't seem to affect the finished product.
The finish is tinny, the element wires are so far apart it's no surprise that toasting anything takes ages. We have given up and now use the toaster rack for the gas camping stove that cost $2.50 and works. It at least has the capacity to burn the toast.
On the same day I bought a Sunbeam MultiProcessor LC6250 that lasted 24 hours. Returned for a refund and got a competent Kenwood.
Sunbeam once was an iconic Australian brand. It is now synonymous with cheap imported dysfunctional [censored word removed]. Little wonder they are desperate enough to sponsor something as awful as that competitive cookery / advertising show.
The word, censored by the electronic wowsers, is synonymous with 'poo'.
Good looking toaster but that's about it! – We bought this toaster because it was sale at Target - needed to replace our Breville that had died. It has now stopped working after just a few months and we need to get a warranty replacement. It worked well up until this time but miss the feature of being able to lift-up the toast to check it like we had on the Breville. Looks good Missing features of other toasters, stopped working after three months
