Okay – Was happy with it to start with, unfortunately after a few uses we started having some issues. Once the batter was placed in the machine it would just settle in the bottom half of the machine and not rise up to the top half of the machine. Would love to know if anyone else has had this issue or if anyone has a solve for this?

Great machine that works perfectly – Works so well, really happy with it. I've been doing quadruple batches on the weekend and putting a stack in the freezer for an easy week day breakfast. The recipes in the included booklet and online recipe book are consistently good too, I love the basic sweet waffle and the coconut and raspberry flavour. The tips in the booklet are great as well… Read more ·  1

i.e. how to cook thick or thin batters differently. I do wish I could remove the hotplates to dunk in the sink, most recipes I definitely don't need to do more than a wipe over, but after doing a batch of chocolate waffles with choc chip pieces it does need a bit more of a scrub.

Great Compact Vertical Waffle Maker – I have recently purchased this gorgeous little waffle maker and am thrilled with it. I love its shape, colour, size ( great for two people) and how easy it is to use. What I love the most is the absence of spilt batter you normally get with horizontal waffle makers. So very clean to use and the non-stick plates are awesome. It also has a lovely… Read more

black measuring cup, well made with a rubber rim. The quality is awesome for the price. A timer screen lets you see how long before the waffle is cooked, then it beeps when it's finished. It heats up very quickly and the waffles are all uniform in colour. I am extremely pleased with the Sunbeam Vertical Waffle Maker! It also looks awesome on the bench, it doesn't take much space at all, and the matte black colour gives it a stylish classic style. Well done Sunbeam!!

Perfect! Does what it's designed to! – After having a bad run with Sunbeam products (bread maker, kettle, slow cooker), this product has really impressed us, if only all sunbeam products were this well thought through and built to this level of quality! The waffle maker is easy to use and clean up. It does take a few minutes to heat up (expected) but if turned on whilst preparing the… Read more

batter this time isn't an issue. The waffle maker has 5 settings from light and fluffy to dark and crispy. We like the dark and crispy setting which takes about 5minutes to cook, this time frame feels a bit long when trying to feed a family of 5 at once, it takes almost 15 minutes to cook waffles for 5 people, including the preheating time between waffles, in saying this, without a 'multi waffle maker' unit, this is pretty much expected for this size unit, and not everyone has a family of 5 either!

When they first come out they are hot with a crunchy outer, however if the waffle is not eaten straight away and cools down they become soft... personally, I like a crispy waffle so if preparing a few to serve at once I'll pop them in the toaster for a minute to crisp up immediately prior to serving. That way the family can all have warm waffles at once.

My children aged 6, 8 and 14 can all use this product unassisted with no problems (as well as make the batter) - overall it's pretty foolproof, great fun for the kids and the non-stick coating is perfect, cleanup often isn't necessary!

The top inlet for the batter is convenient, it basically means 'no mess', if you do happen to overfill the provided measuring cup (i.e. overfill the unit) and the batter does happen to overflow when cooking it is still easy to clean and not a big issue, it still cooks a perfect waffle!

Well done sunbeam on this product, it's looks the part and performs perfectly, the black lcd screen looks smart, the timers and warnings are perfect, and not having to press any buttons when the batter is added to start a timer makes is so much easier to operate (a sensor picks up on the batter being added folks!). The form factor is ideal (small footprint), it's the type of appliance you'd happily leave on the counter as it just looks cool, there's nothing I could suggest to improve this product for the way we use it!

Large fluffy waffles, easy to clean, easy to use – The design of the plates make it easy to cut the waffle into 4 pieces - great for kids. Recipes are easy to follow and adapt. I tried all of them and found the gluten free option to be lightest and fluffiest, had a nice external crisp and the recipe made 3 large waffles. The gluten option was doughy in texture, didnt stay as crispy on the outside… Read more

but did freeze well. I adapted the recipes by adding cinnamon, nutmeg and/or almond milk and to be honest I didnt see a difference between using cows milk or Almond milk in taste or quality of end product. The quality of finished product was consistent regardless of how much I tried to burn it and I tried. Spilt mixture on the outside of the appliance was incredibly easy to clean up. The outside of the appliance does get hot as the instructions say so obviously its best to not touch it until its turned off and cooled down. It has a small footprint so its staying permanently on my small kitchen bench right next to my coffee machine. The digital screen is easy to read, even without my reading glasses. The appliance beeps when its ready to receive some mixture, beeps when it starts cooking said mixture and beeps when its cooked. You can dial up how dark you want the crust to be - I found it didnt get very dark unless you were cooking chocolate waffles or spiced waffles. I strongly invite you to buy one of these if you are a waffle lover like me, just be sure to have lots of maple syrup in the house!

Waffles for breakfast lunch and tea! – The Sunbeam Verical Waffle Maker is not only mess free and easy to use but it makes the most delicious waffles I have ever tasted! You simply mix the batter (recipe suggestions are provided) fill up the cup and pour it in from the top once the digital screen on the machine instructs you to do so. It will also let you know how many minutes it has… Read more ·  1

before your waffles are ready depending on which setting you select. My favourite is the light and fluffy.

I am so impressed by this machine and the features it has that we plan to purchase them as gifts for friends and family.

An Almost Perfect Waffle Iron – Who would think of making a vertical waffle iron! Well it works, and it works well. Straight out of the box it feels solid, well made. Looks good too! A quick read of the instructions, a quick clean and oil to season the hot plates (brown rice oil has no flavour, don't use olive oil!). OK, let it heat up, clean the oil out with paper towel and I… Read more ·  1

was drooling at the thought of Waffles of old.

Let me set the scene: Back in the 90's, can't believe it was so long ago, there was a lovely lady who sold freshly made waffles at Flinders Street Station. Just her, a small stand, and a very long queue! In winter it was the best thing ever. $2 with icing sugar, $2.50 with Nutella and Icing sugar. I have longed for hot fresh crispy waffles, that were soft as butter on the inside. Needless to say, I have never enjoyed a waffle that good since.

So I follow the instructions for plain waffles, serves 2, flour, baking soda, milk, egg, sugar, sift the flour and sugar, prepare the liquids separately. Following the instructions is key, you can ruin the batter if you over mix. (Yes it makes a difference, for Pancakes and baked Cheesecakes, etc).

Waffle iron sits saying "Ready To Cook" in the attractive blue colour LCD display.

Fill the little measuring cup to under the line... (Updated) Lesson 1, as the batter sits it expands, so for the first waffle fill to just under the line, 2nd waffle level with top of the line and third, a bit above if you stretch it that far, Scrape every last drop). Pour it in, no mess, no fuss. Timer starts automatically! Excellent. You can hear it sizzle as it expands and fills the iron to the top. mmm Smells good too.

First waffle, I start off at setting 3, straight up in the middle. Once she beeps, I pop open the iron and the waffle is bolt upright! First thought, its stuck, nope one touch it falls to the open plate, lovely!

Looks great, it's hot and fresh, but I want crispy, second attempt, no 4! Better, I am getting some crisp, still soft in the middle and looks ace. But I want more crisp!.

Go to make number 3.. not enough batter! The recipe says serves 2, I end up making 2.5 perfect waffles, and I forgot to change the dial to 5. (On A re-try a nearly got 3, refer to lesson 1). Yes, the benefit of a vertical iron is you can make HALF a Waffle. 2 squares instead of 4. I forgot to try setting 5. Next time... (Update, tries setting 5 with normal batter. too dry for my liking, well the bottom 2 squares were. 4 it is. Hmm maybe it needed 6 settings!).

Next I make up Buttermilk Waffles... I like buttermilk pancakes, so. here goes. I go for glory crank up the darkness to MAX, 6.5 minutes later, I pop open the waffle iron, and the pancake, I mean waffle, flops over. Be careful getting it out, this thing is HOT! But the Waffles are easy to remove when firm ish.

It's dark and it looks like a waffle, tastes like a buttermilk pancake, but not crisp. It's still very yummy, a bit too sweet for me, (as I cover it in maple syrup), but yummy.

Don't get me wrong, this is a perfectly cooked soft and fluffy sweet pancake waffle. Delicious, but not crispy. Obviously the buttermilk recipe is not for crispy waffles. Note this recipe yields another surprise, It makes 5 Buttermilk pancakes! (looking back I think I made mistake with the batter, too much sugar!, I will retry) Serve's 2 says the book! If you can eat 2 and half Waffles....No comment.

OK, so Pro's: Vertical is great on the bench, takes up less space, and looks flashy. Can be placed in an overhead cupboard easily enough. I like the controls, one dial, 1 to 5 for colour, I have not tried 1 or 2, 3 to 5 is my preference. I like how it automatically starts (the timer) as you pour the batter in and automatically stops cooking once done! (Yes if you leave it in as it cools, it will cook it more ).

Measuring cup is accurate, but please refer to Lesson 1. Overfilling is no big deal, your waffle gets a handle, (you will see), but underfilling results in funny looking curved waffles....

Caution: It's natural to grab the top and try to close the lid, luckily I touched from behind and didnt burn myself. I wasn't concentrating!

Con's: The cord at the back doesn't come out vertically, so If you push the back against a wall, it kinks the cord. (Refer image) This leads to problem no 2, you can't lay it on its back. (Well you can, but I don't recommend it). Lying on its back it really kinks the cord. This could easily be fixed with some legs at the top rear of the iron, and better cord placement. Is this really a problem, NO, why waste draw space when you can put it in an overhead cupboard, upright! Draws a are premium place for things, so its also a benefit....

Conclusion: I need to try the first recipe on setting 5 (I will update this review), or locate some other recipe, but so far, this has produced the best waffles I have had since the 90's. I've had waffles in Melbourne, Byron Bay, and even Europe, they are all usually either too cold, doughy and too soft and chewy. this is almost perfect..

PS I can't comment on value for money, as I can't compare it to any other waffle irons. This is my first!. If you love waffles, the price is ok for these days!

Patience and practice. I'll get there.

Conclusion. Highly recommended.

Perfect Waffles! – Absolutely love my new waffle maker! The vertical design makes it very easy to use, it includes a measuring cup that is the exact measurement for one waffle, ensuring that you get a full fluffy waffle every time. The dial has five different shade and texture options from light and fluffy to dark and crispy which is perfect as I love fluffy… Read more ·  1

waffles and my fiancé prefers them crisp. Another feature I found really impressive is the LCD screen, it tells you once it’s heated up and starts a cooking countdown once the mixture has been poured, cooking every waffle to perfection! Being on a plant-based diet I was very excited to see that the booklet also included gluten free and vegan recipe options.

My new favourite appliance – I have made sweet potato waffles and chocolate cinnamon waffles, both gluten free and they have turned out an absolute dream, best waffle maker out there! I used the crispy setting for the sweet potato and light and fluffy for the sweet, texture did not disappoint!  Show details ·  1

Perfect waffles every time – Finally a waffle maker that is not only mess free and easy to store and use but gives you a genuine variety of waffle textures and shades. The display tells you exactly when it is ready for use and when cooked along with the time left which is a huge plus in my books. I have made two types of waffles in this (basic and buttermilk), they were both perfect. Highly recommend this product! Show details ·  1
